to be honest, I no longer know what a clean hit is. Both hits would've been clean 20 years ago. One would've been interference 10 years ago. Both were led with a shoulder (back in the day, as long as it wasn't an elbow it was good). One (Moore's hit) I never saw from the angle I think would tell something. Not diminishing the severity of the hits, or what the NHL is trying to do to protect its assets, just stating that I just no longer know what is legal and what isn't, other than one hit would be interference due to its lateness. And I do think the Moore penalty was the refs saying, this isn't happening in the next series, given the Prust hit a couple games earlier and hightened awareness to keep the series under control.

Scott Stevens would have approved that hit. Seriously, it looked legal it to me. What has happened to the NHL, I used to love.

The day Scott Stevens dropped Eric Lindros pretty much was the day the NHL started really considering looking at the concussion issue IMO. Ironically that's how Stevens career ended. Tons of others as well. The lawsuits these days against the NHL by formerly concussed players who had their careers shortened. I'll agree that the NHL has taken a lot of the bite out of the physical part of the game and it's definitely not better for it. A lot more sneaky players who will never answer the bell than guys who will actually throw down and stand up for themselves. It's a lot different than it used to be.

Looks like Weise admiring his pass while Moore body checks him. Not really late, PPoC not the head though there is contact, only a blindside because Weise is looking at the play to the left while his body is moving straight ahead. Skates leave ice after contact because momentum moves him upward. Prust only got a suspension because it was late and Steps was injured. MTL got a 5 min PP while the Rangers did not. If they just want to quell emotions and try to make this series less of a circus they'll give him 1 game. He doesn't have a history.

Supposedly it's only the best of the best referees still reffing. Makes me wonder about some of the rest. Pollock did say he saw it and thought it was clean. These plays happen really fast but even so...

Even though we lost I thought the officiating crew last night did a fairly decent job. Most all of the penalties were deserved. I was glad they caught Plekanec's acting. The game itself was sloppy as hell.

I thought the officials last night let a lot go...too much. Way too much interference going on, on both sides. And the crapola behind-the-play went uncalled....Dorsett's antics, Moore and what's-his-face's exchanges.....that's the purpose of having the 2nd ref on the ice....to catch all the stuff that happens behind the play. They must have been dazed and confused by those guys impersonating NHL goalies.

What did he say about Weise?

“I didn’t like it, obviously,” said Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher. “To me, it’s worse than the Prusty hit. Don’t get me wrong, Prusty’s was late. But (Moore) comes from the blindside. I thought Prusty got (Stepan) in the chest. (Moore) hits Weise from the blind side, which is dangerous, as well.”

Methinks Gallagher doesn't understand what "blind side" means.

It was the same hit as Prust's but without an injury.

Wasn't the same as all since Prust's was twice as late and involved a player who has been suspended before.

Multiple suspensions and injuries are modifiers for hits. They are supposed to increase the suspension length. Here, they did nothing since the league somehow ignored both.
