And we will talk about trades if/once they're done. As it currently stands, this is pretty useless.

If you'd rather have a 5th than an upgrade on Mete/Ouellet/Leskinen and a potential upgrade on Kulak if another move is made by tomorrow, or when Chiarot comes back, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

As our Dcore stands now, when Chiarot comes back, Mete and Kulak are no longer in the top 6.

It's not the bottom pair that actually needs help

It certainly does.

Mete is not good enough. And Kulak can go to the pressbox when Chiarot is back.

Obviously they need to upgrade the top 4 LD but that doesn't mean the 3rd pairing doesn't need help aswell.

Acquiring better defensive depth isn't a bad thing. But it can't be the only thing.

Edmundson-Petry
Chiarot-Weber
Merrill-Romanov

Holy overreaction, Batman! At worst it's a nothing trade. At best it provides some help. It's not like Bergevin traded Suzuki to get a bottom pairing guy. They gave up a pair of nothings for a guy who might help the team.

Sounds an awful lot like what we said when they added Dwight King and Steve Ott and lost to a shitty Rangers team in the first round.

List of priorities:

1-Top 4 PMD

...

25- Bolstering our bottom 3 Dmen

Don't worry. Who needs a PMD when you don't have to bring the puck in the offensive zone thanks to all of these excellent stay-at-home defensemen

(For the record : I think this is a decent acquisition, just not one that fits a need; we're gonna have 4 d-men who are well below average in transition once Chiarot is back...)

I agree. And that is the problem as you point out. Chiarot, Edmunson , Merrill are pretty good at the type of D man they are. Our need though was a PMD like Dunn, Ekholm, not Merrill. Need a guy who can produce.

That's why I like the move. I'm not doing backflips. And I hope there's another move find Weber a partner more suited for him than Weber. But this move seems like a positive.

SCOUTING REPORT
Has plenty of puck-moving ability. Also boasts a very big frame and some physicality. Has shutdown ability, as well. Can play on either side, which adds value. Lacks discipline. Needs to become a far more consistent defenseman (in all facets of the game) in order to garner more minutes at the big-league level.
Long Range Potential: Inconsistent defenseman.

Do you know the price to acquire one of these ? + Ekholm will possibly stay in Nashville now that his team is doing well and will possibly make the Playoffs.

..a defensive defenceman when we need a first-pass offensive defenceman. f*** sakes this guy is so dumb.
He's in the same mold as Edmundson/Chiarot. Big guy, defensive-minded, not much offense. Not the best skater

Not sure why we would acquire him.

Yawn.

Problem with the whole team is they can't do zone exits.

Acquiring much of the same.

See.

This guy doesnt know what hes doing.
I feel like Bergevin is the guy who would go shopping for new pants but come back home with 5 pairs of Superman socks because they were on sale.

How many more defensive defensemen do we need lmao. Next thing you know they'll creep up on the fourth line. Smhm

You mean like last season where he was team worst for GA/60 and on-ice save%?? Or last playoffs where he led the team for worst +/- and most goals allowed?

I prefer Edmundson to Chiarot. While Chiarot has more skill, Edmundson is more steady.

Chiarot will make nice plays jumping into the rush. But sometimes he's all over the place and totally errant with his passes. I'd like to see if he can play a more simple game on a 3rd pair with Romanov.

Ok. Was the 5th round pick going to be used to get a top 4 D?

I don't see how this move prevents that.
Um with Chiarot coming back, he’s not getting another d man.
If this is the only move made, they will definitely miss the playoffs
