Lol. So in the Mete thread I said MB better get a PMD ( sorta like everybody in hockey is saying ) and not a stay at home guy in his image, and not one that costs a 5th.

So he goes out and gets another NOT PMD, for a 5th. MB completely sucks at building a modern D. A PMD would also help tne offense.

Merrill has almost 400 years of NHL games under his belt. More than Mete, Ouellet & Leskinen combined.

I still say if because we've seen some pretty bad D come in here with more than 400 NHL games (Niiniima, Byran Allen, etc...).

But I'm expecting he'll be better than Mete and Kulak. Not sure why so many aren't happy with an upgrade on Kulak. It's not like we know MB doesn't have another trade for another D in the works.

At least he has been decent this year unlike Staal, but getting an upgrade on Kulak/Mete wasnt difficult. Incredibly disappointing that this is going to be the dman we get since we wont trade Chiarot, but totally unsurprising.

Agreed they need more help than this.

But this is more about solidifying the bottom pair. It will give Romanov someone with a lot of experience to help him. It's been Romanov and a variety of partners rotating in and out. This will help steady things there.

I don't know enough about Merrill to know how he plays. But I do think he's an upgrade over whoever Romanov has been partnered with recently.

Holy overreaction, Batman! At worst it's a nothing trade. At best it provides some help. It's not like Bergevin traded Suzuki to get a bottom pairing guy. They gave up a pair of nothings for a guy who might help the team.

Don't worry. Who needs a PMD when you don't have to bring the puck in the offensive zone thanks to all of these excellent stay-at-home defensemen

(For the record : I think this is a decent acquisition, just not one that fits a need; we're gonna have 4 d-men who are well below average in transition once Chiarot is back...)
