I'm not even hating on Merrill , I'm sure he'll do fine but I'm just not seeing the direction we are taking (I don't understand the strategy).
Habs need more talent not complimentary / solid value players , we aren't a team that needs a little something we need a drastic change in culture...Oh well that's a discussion for another thread.

Merrill could/should've been a cheaper offseason acquisition than Edmundson. Trading a pick for him now is more redundancy and does nothing to improve our chances against quality playoff rosters... Giving Yzerman assets for nothing.

That's the core they will be building around for the next decade+. All of them with the exception of Poehling (just turned 22) are 21 years old and under. The next GM will be set up decently well

If Matthews, Marner and company play like shit...Nick Foligno can bleed all he wants, they're not winning.

Wait for what. Jon Merrill is 29 years old. He has almost 400 games of experience. Do you guys watch hockey outside of the Montreal Canadiens? Jon Merrill will be like all the others depth dmen MB got. He'll look good considering the very low expectation of fans. Lot of fans will hype him to death. But at the end of the day he wont change anything when it comes to the end results of the team.

You are probably correct. I am still happy to not have Mete in the line-up. He has been a big liability.

Of course, but it helps. Why do you think teams do these moves every year. Look at Tampa last year. Adding a couple pieces of sandpaper helped put them over the top after failing for years.

It's about building the best all around team.

Hall of fame Staal is not playing for us. Should have retired already Staal is the one playing for us and he contributes nothing to this team. Markov's impact on this team is still glaringly obvious to this day and his contribution has yet to be replaced.
