The hero of game 4, 2x SHGs, impossible to knock off the puck essentially cycling at will, anticipating and intercepting everything defensively...

Why can't he bring it every game??! God is he ever frustrating.
There was never anything frustrating in Armia's game since he got here. If he was at his best for most of the time, he'd be a top-10 RW in the game, not a middle-6 forward making below 3 million.

Adjust your expectations.

It's ok to be a bit frustrated on the fact that Joel shows he COULD be that player, but can't reach it. Would he be here if he was? Who knows, but maybe not.

The guy has also had so much bad luck with injuries and especially with their timing. Every time he has started to make a good stretch, he has been injured. Thus, mark me as a very worried person at the moment...

That's true. He is quite injury prone, or perhaps, as you said, unlucky. Last year, he went down while being one of our best forwards. This year, he has a Jagr-esque game in Vancouver and ends up with a concussion. Glad to have him healthy this playoffs. He will likely be lost due to cap reasons, but I have always appreciated his game.

3.3 for 3 years seems fair to me. Gives him a raise, some stability and the opportunity to land one more contract with some term after it’s over, while ensuring the fourth line/PK will be high quality.

He had been solid for us, uses his big frame well, excellent penalty killer, can score timely goals. He also happens to be KK’s good buddy and that may be a factor.

I disagree, he's extremely frustrating to watch as he just has those games where he looks great and then you don't see him do anything for a week or more. He's played 51 games this year so far between reg and playoffs, in 37 of those games he's been pointless. That's 73% of the season he had no pts. That's hella frustrating when he shows he can produce with a good shot and how strong he is.

If he brought it every game, He would be the games best powerforward and caphit would be 8-10M
Then I would gladly give him his 10M and enjoy a prime Marian Hossa.
Now the real question, considering he's a UFA, is it possible that a GM see what he's doing and offers him 5+M/year. In a world where GMs think that players like Ladd/Lucic/Eriksson/Hayes are worth 6+ with term on the open market, I foresee a team overpaying for his skillset.

How can you expect Armia to be one of the leading scorers, if he hardly gets any power play time and plays significant time shorthanded.
Still with +10 he has best plus minus rating of all forwards. But he has potential to be 50+ points forward if you give him power play time and 17+ minutes playing time in top two lines.

This.

Remember how good he looked vs Flyers on the top 2 lines?

Precisely how I feel. Out of the current Habs roster, he has by far the biggest variance in play. Some nights he's Marian Hossa and on others he's hmmm well Joel Armia.

honestly I'd keep him over Gally. No hate towards Gally. It's just pretty clear who's more effective when the chips are down. You gotta find a way to keep this guy. Hopefully he isn't looking for huge money.

Two playoffs in a row where he starts out slowly but just turns into an absolute stud. He just brings a dimension we sorely need. Gally and Byron are the two forwards I see in the line up that I can see us winning without during these playoffs. They're not playing bad at all really but they just seem wholly replaceable.

Too bad MB's head over heels with Gally. Too quick on the draw I think. And again, this is not hate at all. Gally's gotten better as the playoffs have gone on.

He's been dynamite but we can't get screwed into overpaying for role players. He's been a HUGE one no doubt. I'm sure only a small batch of teams would pay him something like 4.

Agreed, he's good but overpaying players of his ilk is how you get in trouble salary cap wise. We don't want another Byron situation where the player is good but his salary means you are putting them on waivers.

With all the money we are wasting on Tatar, Drouin..I have no doubt we will sign him. He's 6'4, good hands, strong as an ox, elite defense, can chip in offensively when it matters most, steps it up in the playoffs...you cannot lose a guy like that in the lineup. When he's slotted in the right position he becomes a vital player. You can't go far in the playoffs if you don't have these kinds of players that can cycle and keep possession like he can. We're already small up front, we have to find a way to keep him.

hahaha I just realized I contradicted myself with my last post. I'll stick with the last one lol.

He is a playoff stud but yeah I don't know how much I would pay for him though.

He's definitely getting paid this offseason after these playoffs. Wish they extended him while they had a chance. As much hype as Anderson got, Armia provided similar offense/good on boards/way better defensively/less physical but still hits

What's your definition of getting paid? Not sure a team will go over 4m with flat caps.

there was a rumor that the two sides were talking about a deal a while back. I wonder if MB wants to keep him as a UFA and just have a handshake deal so that Seattle will know not to pick him as I assume they wouldn't pay him that much more then us and I assume he's happy playing here with his fellow Fins. Of course just speculation and we'll see what happens in the off-season.
