Joe Veleno. Suspended 5 games.

You: "As we can see on the video evidence, you stabbed the victim 39 times with a kitchen knife."
Obvious murderer: "I slipped while trying to hand it to him."
You: "Okay, you're free to go."

Your answer is truly funny :) (in the good sense i mean !)

But i don't think that Veleno had in mind to end Nino's carreer by butchering his leg with his sharpened blade !! he is not Jekyl and hyde !! he wanted to win the battle and was struggling.

But ... that is what he did !! he gave a hit with his blade like a hit with an axe on the leg.

I think we are more in the :

him : I was trying to be on time in the birthday of my daughter !!
You : yes , you were late ... but you were driving at 200 miles/hours on the highway !!

totally wreckless !

And in this way, it becomes an assault with a weapon !!
(try to break a leg with a sharp weapon)

iihf really needs to send a strong message here. Making star come to this tournament seems to be more and more difficult these days, so I don't think it will help if IIHF doesn't protect players from this kind of horrible play.

To me, his tournament should be done.

Posts like these make me upset people use the lol emoji sarcastically. Well earned. Always a fan.
I don’t use it sarcastically when something is genuinely funny which the post was

he wont get banned, because he is from canada. if it was a swede, finn or anyone else, banned for sure
Absolute garbage. It is the complete reverse of that.

If the Canadian management had any wherewithal they would be sending him home independent of anything the IIHF does. It would be a great message to send.
Right. No other country would ever do that. Why should Canada?

Five pages to say he did a bad thing and no actual news?

Surprised the IIHF hasn't suspended him yet.

Canada is playing tomorrow so we should have news before this.

IIHF not doing anything for such play would be absolutely insane

As a Canadian, I am ashamed of Veleno. IIHF suspension or not, Team Canada should send him home. That is as dirty a play as exists in hockey. It’s a vicious sport and tempers flare, but stomping on a player is just so universally recognized as something despicable and unforgivable that you almost never see it happen. Shame on Veleno, and even more shame for the embellishment to draw a penalty after. Shameless. Send. Him. Home.

I think this could've warranted more, but it's difficult to compare IIHF tournament suspensions to say NHL suspensions. In the NHL, this should be like 20 games.
