Joe Veleno. Suspended 5 games.

But that was the NHL with its 82 game season. These tournaments have 7 games in group stage and then max plus 3 more.
Also, wasn't Simon a repeat offender in NHL with lengthy suspensions under his belt already?

I think 5 is fine, because it's a tournament and that means he's out for the rest of it at minimum, if Canada goes home before semis it carries to next year.

Parros would have handed out a small fine.

Imagine him doing this to McDavid in NHL playoffs... F***ing weaponizing your skate blades...
Huh? Did you see what the NHL did for a guy who blatnatly chopped one of the top players in the game long log long after the puck was gone? Slap on the wrist by the nhl.

5 isn't enough this was a ridiculous action on his part. What if he had actually pierced through players leg and ended a career? Forget career using a skate blade as a sword really was malicious intent he's lucky he wasn't criminally charged.

he wont get banned, because he is from canada. if it was a swede, finn or anyone else, banned for sure
Complete crap. IIHF hates Canada and always penalizes us more. I thought Veleno deserved the rest of this tournament

Your answer is truly funny :) (in the good sense i mean !)

But i don't think that Veleno had in mind to end Nino's carreer by butchering his leg with his sharpened blade !! he is not Jekyl and hyde !! he wanted to win the battle and was struggling.

But ... that is what he did !! he gave a hit with his blade like a hit with an axe on the leg.

I think we are more in the :

him : I was trying to be on time in the birthday of my daughter !!
You : yes , you were late ... but you were driving at 200 miles/hours on the highway !!

totally wreckless !

And in this way, it becomes an assault with a weapon !!
(try to break a leg with a sharp weapon)
The thing is that Valeno didn’t just carelessly step on Nino. He lifted his leg high and stomped on him with force. It’s not accidental or carelessness when you do that. It’s intent to injure.

As a Wings fan... Hate this. Joe seems like a super good kid trying to break into the line up but this puts his Red Wing figure in jeopardy IMO. Yzerman traded Vrana for nothing because he couldn't trust him, curious what happens to Joe. If it means hes gone for a lengthy suspension or who knows, its deserved. Can honestly say I don't remember a wreckless or dangerous play by him since Ive watched, very out of character but maybe someone who has watched him in junior can have more input.
If Veleno would've done that in NHL then Yzerman and Red-Wings could've done something.
But this happened in IIHF tournament so only IIHF has jurisdiction authority in this case.

Veleno got suspended 5 games and that's it.
JV will be back next season and IIHF penalties rarely follow to NHL.

Only time when NHL has agreed IIHF penalty
was that when Jevgeni Kuznetsov busted for cocaine and IIHF suspended him 4 yrs.

Joe Veleno has been suspended one game his entire career, and that was in the WJC in 2019 for a "headbutt". He's a clean player who made a shit decision, certainly not a POS.
Nah, he's a dirty player.

99.9% of players play there whole life & never even think of doing something like that let alone also have headbutting somebody on their resume.

There's no defending that like, at all.

he wont get banned, because he is from canada. if it was a swede, finn or anyone else, banned for sure
It doesn't matter what nationality player represents.
That what Veleno did was clear attempt to cause career ending injury for Niederreiter.

But unfortunately IIHF do not have balls to suspend anybody for a lifetime.
Veleno will serve his suspension in these IIHF worlds and then he's back next season in NHL.

Chris Simon got 30 games for stomping on Jarrko Ruutu's foot. Five is a joke
It actually was 20 games suspension for Simon.
