I remember people complaining about Gibbons just as much.

I remember people complaining about Gibby. I don't think it was this universal though. People will always find something to complain about. When literally everyone is complaining though, I think it becomes pretty obvious he's awful.

Kirk 2 for 3 with a walk and a double.

Smith hit another HR.

Hatch 5 IP, 4 K, 3 BB, 3 earned runs. 90 pitches

Gibbons was a solid manager. He made the right moves the vast majority of the time. Montoyo would take out Strawberry for Simpson.

Gotta play the percentages

In all seriousness Gibbons wasn't perfect but Montoyo seems to be actively trying to misuse his bullpen

Mock Draft: The home stretch
19. Blue Jays: Anthony Solometo, LHP, Bishop Eustace Prep (Pennsauken Township, N.J.)

Another player who seems almost locked in with a team, and Solometo is the top prep lefty in the class. But there are several options for teams at this point, with Solometo seeming to be the best bet right now, ahead of someone like prep catcher Joe Mack.

We seem to be really locked in on Solometo based on some mocks. This mock blows up any chance of my whole take Bednar and throw him in the bullpen for this season plan. Bachman would also work in that scenario but he's gone in this mock.

IMO, Gibbons was an average manager but thats an improvement over whatever Montoyo is.
I'm usually not in favor of putting new pitchers right into the 1st game, but in extras you have to do it.

Just read from Keith Law, of all people, that Gabe Moreno's exclusion from the Futures Game is not due to his injury as the rosters would've been picked before his injury was announced.

Instead his best guess is that he was pushed out so that a Cleveland Catcher could make it as that team's only representative in the contest.

Boo.

WARNING: if you are squeamish, do not read any further. I’m mainly looking at you @The Nemesis

Joe Panik homered off Aaron Nola in his first Marlins AB and also had a go ahead RBI single in the 5th. He finished 2/4 with a HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, and a BB.

And yet a 24 year old reliever was Baltimore's second player after Adley. Couldn't remove him instead for a random Cleveland pitcher?

MLB continues to be trash.

That's better than the answer I was expecting when I read Keith Law, I was ready to hear how he can't hit a fastball and doesn't deserve an MLB roster spot.

I sure hope people recognize Semien, Vlad, and Teoscar collectively getting one hit and leaving 14 runners on base was the reason for the loss and not the bullpen.

Maybe not at this website, but they sure did elsewhere.

I'm fine.

Charlie, on the other hand, is probably on his 4th bottle of Jack Daniels tonight, listening to breakup songs on repeat

Yankees scored 7 runs in the first inning vs Ohtani and were up 8-4 in the 9th. Angels scored 7 runs in the 9th including a game tying grand slam against Chapman.

Tonight’s game was tough but hearing the Yankees blow that game makes me feel better. Rays got blown out 15-6 too so we are still only 4.5 GBs of the 2nd WC spot.

What would have made that story perfect is if Ohtani hit the hr

Cubs also scored 7 in the first and managed to lose. Weird day.

I was just about to mention that. Losing after scoring 7 in the first had to be a pretty rare feat... two teams doing it in one day? Crazy!

I've only seen Callis and Mayo recycling the Solometo pick, and they of course work together so there is likely overlapping "intel" there. The recent mocks from McDaniel, BA, and Law didn't mention him but all three did mention Jay Allen, with McDaniel and Law both having Allen as the pick. It's interesting that Callis/Mayo feel so strongly about that pick, of course there's very little predictability in mocking an exact player to a team picking 19th.

There can be multiple reasons for losing a baseball game.

The reason we're talking about the Montoyo and the bullpen is because those two things need to be fixed as soon as possible while those 3 players just had an off night and should remain on the team.
