Well good hitting catchers are so hard to find. Value wise it's probably close between him and Martin.

I don't think it's even close at this point to be honest. Moreno is actually almost a full year younger and is hitting .400 with twice the ISO at the exact same level. He also has less defensive question marks and projects as an above average catcher, so there's no defensive angle that could make it close either. It hasn't been brought up much, but I think he's thrown out like ~40+% of base-runners this season and he's above-average athletically for the position. His arm is really good. There is really no hole or flaw in his game - it's top-end to elite bat to ball skills, power that continues to improve and is playing already, and defensive proficiency at a premier position.

And none of that is really a "knock" on Martin either - it just puts it into perspective how good Moreno looks. What he's doing NOW with the bat is basically what everyone "hoped" as a best case scenario out of Martin.

Myself and 3 of my friends talk Jays every single day and since the summer I was saying how Moreno and SWR are our best 2 prospects. Manoah has been awesome but I still believe SWR will be the more reliable starter in a couple years as he is still only 20 years old. As for Moreno, I was hyping him up and one of my buddies didn’t even know who he was in the summer. Now he does and now he’s on the hype train with me. This kid just oozes baseball star talent. I’m so excited for him to move up to AAA and then force his way on the team. Also, Adams has looked good. With him, Kirk, Jansen, McGuire and Moreno, there will definitely be some trades later this season or in the off season.

Catchers are inherently valuable just for the position they play. If you can get a guy that can even remotely hit the ball there it's considered a win.

The comparables being thrown around now makes Moreno sound like the second coming of Mike Piazza

Last night's loss was poor defense as well as the bullpen. We need Merriweather back asap.

I think the best-case scenario he will be back in a month.

Hatch pitched yesterday and Murphy has been pitching a few times. I think both could be called up very soon. Hatch especially will help. Jays still will need to acquire relief help. The bullpen now is atrocious.

Come on, pre-game. Don't give in to this "old man yells at cloud" crap Buck's spewing about relievers. It's just more of his "things were better in my day and players and management today sucks."

Critically Buck's entire rant discounts any aspect of player safety/health. All he cares about is "this hurts managers and teams and blah blah blah"

It's also disingenuous because guys have gone out there 2 games in a row, or 2 games out of 3 or whatever. And because we don't know what is the contributing factor to how the pen is being used. Is it organizational restrictions saying "you can't use this guy if he throws more than X pitches in Y days" or is it Montoyo making weird bone-headed decisions based on nothing at all? Because honestly we've watched enough questionable in-game decisions with these teams that I wouldn't rule out the latter

Murphy is pitching again in Buffalo and pitched two solid innings. I think we see him on Monday or Tuesday.
He's got the stuff than plays.....it's the "deemed illegal" toe tap that caused a delivery change which has caused his latest health issues.

Andy Burns just recorded his first MLB hit with the Dodgers. He was in the Blue Jays system for a long time and very briefly appeared with the team in 2016. He almost always hit well in the minors and I thought he'd be a nice utility bench piece so its nice to see him up with the Dodgers, which is probably the perfect team for him.

Moreno now thrown out the last 4 steal attempts and Groshans wins the game with a bases loaded and bases cleaning double in the 9th inning.

If they all get rolling, New Hampshire has a great top of the order with Martin, Groshans, Lopez and Moreno.

Who do you think the best starter we might be able to aqcuire if we did a package around semien and macguire (cause everyone wants a catcher)

not that i want to but he has to have a large amount of value. just a debate to throw out

Trading Semien would be nuts, but he also probably doesn't hold much value to teams other than contenders.

The teams we would be trading with are teams out of the race, looking to rebuild and likely have no use for a rental with no control beyond this year.

2021 MLB Mock Draft: Louisville catcher to Pirates at No. 1; Vandy's Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker not far behind
19 Blue Jays
Pick: C Adrian Del Castillo, Miami ($3,359,000 slot value)
We're in guesswork territory, and the Blue Jays have skewed toward college players in the first round the last few drafts, and Del Castillo is arguably the top college bat still on the board. There were times he looked like a potential top-10 pick, but he's had an up-and-down spring, and there are questions about his ability to stay behind the plate. Del Castillo has big power and a disciplined approach, and catchers are often drafted higher than expected because of position scarcity.

B/R's 2021 MLB Mock Draft 2.0 for Every 1st-Round Pick
19. Toronto Blue Jays: LHP Anthony Solometo, Bishop Eustace High School (NJ)
Solometo shares some similarities with Madison Bumgarner mechanically, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action. He has been steadily climbing draft boards this spring by running his fastball up to 96 mph and locating it well. He also has a plus slider and good feel for a changeup, all from a 6'5", 218-pound frame. The Blue Jays system skews position-player heavy, and Solometo could quickly become one of its top young arms.

2021 MLB Mock Draft 5.0 — Prospects Live
19. Toronto Blue Jays
Gavin Williams, RHP, East Carolina

Williams follows 2019 first rounder Alek Manoah and 2017 first rounder Nate Pearson in big, physical righties with huge stuff heading up north. Williams has been a big riser this year thanks to impressive gains in the control department and breaking ball quality. He’s always had stuff, but it’s really cleaned up in 2021 as he pounds the zone. The fastball has been up to 99, while the slider and curveball has both flashed plus at times. There are some concerns on the lack of a lengthy track record, as well as some potential health red flags, but Williams could be the third best arm in this class when all is said and done. The stuff is truly explosive.

Guerrero’s first 61 games compared to Pulojs first 61 games during his 9.5 fWAR season in 2003.
