SWR 5 IP, 5 K, 2 B, 3 hits, 1 ER.

Moreno 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Also threw out back to back baserunners trying to steal 2nd early in the game

It’s pretty exciting news. Even more depth down the middle increases roster flexibility and trade options.

Yeah it’s nice. Since top prospects don’t go at deadlines any more, these guys will be valuable. Close to MLB ready middle infielders with good performances.

If the Jays are in contention I see one or more of these guys going in a deal to the Cubs.

The following will be of interest;

Adams and/or McGuire
Taylor
Smith
Warmoth

Kay
Hatch
Zeuch

I also think for the right deal guys like Otto Lopez or even Tellez could be moved. Espinal as well

If he didn’t have such a bad BB/K ratio, I would say he is a legit prospect again as a 22 year old in AA with a wRC+ of 125+. Just hard to get over the 35% K rate and 5% walk rate.
Tim Anderson had a 27.1% k rate to 3% walk rate as a 23 year old in the MLB.

Yeah, but that's MLB. 35% in AA we're close to entering JB Woodman territory.

It's also not much of a sample size. He's down to 33% after tonight's game and in 8 games in June he has 6 strikeouts to 4 walks. He had a high K-rate in Dunedin (27.9%) but he was young for the league, and the season before that he posted an 18.7% K-rate in A-ball.

Point being, he doesn't have a track record of abysmal K-rates, such that the ~35% K-rate he carried could be rust-related after a COVID year of inactivity. He definitely showed strikeout problems in his last full season, but that's something that will be evaluated over the remaining course of this season.

Now an 11.9% BB-rate and 19.0% K-rate in his last 10 games while hitting 5 HR and 4 2B. Small sample, arbitrary endpoints, and all that stuff... but it's nice to see the power has actually increased lately while the other metrics are trending in the right direction.

More arbitrary stuff:
First 9 games - 44.1% K-rate, 0 HR, 26 wRC+
Last 20 games - 28.6% K-rate, 8 HR, 207 wRC+

He's on a ridiculous tear right now.

Edit: he's also just casually tossed in 11 SB while playing 2B/3B/CF. Long way to go, but he just might be something. Thanks Joe Smith!

There is a significant difference between 27% and 35%, not to mention the difference in competition. You just have to hope the numbers are inflated over a SSS because that kind of swing and miss will not play at the MLB level.

He starts the article off by saying that teams haven't had their meetings to set their boards yet and that signability hasn't been factored in yet, but then "concludes" that we're the floor for Benny Montgomery and that it'll be a pitcher otherwise. Jim Callis has really deteriorated since leaving Baseball America. With it still being a month out, a lot of these "rumours" will flip completely.

jaden hill prior to his injury a lot were calling him a top 10 pick and a top 3 arm .. now most have him nowhere near the first round mocks.

do you save some first round money and try and snag him in the 3rd round.. or will someone throw a big chunk at him

Someone like the Dodgers or Rays could take him and pay him over slot.

Or he can refuse to sign and go next year when he is healthier.

I think he's a reliever. Not high on him anymore. He's never pitched a full season. There are better guys with better stuff who are not injured.
