I completely agree with the notion that the Bruins are absolutely wasting Morrow as an asset. If the idea was to keep him from getting picked up by Vegas in the expansion draft and make KMiller or McQuaid look like better options (in order to get out of the brutal contracts Sweeney signed them to), then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. The problem is they have also made it more likely that Morrow will never have any value this year and made it harder to convince him to sign here next year.

The Bruins will have a hard time convincing Morrow to sign here? You think they will make an effort to do that?

If the Bruins undervalued Morrow compared to the rest of the league, don't you think another team would have made a trade offer that Sweeney thought was good value? Remember when the Bruins were ruining Koko's value? The same Koko who has been benched for 2/3rds of his games in the KHL?

How do we know if Sweeney was ever made an offer for Morrow?

Chances are Sweeney would prefer to keep his blue-line depth than deal Morrow for a 5th or 6th rounder.

Please don't compare Morrow to Koko....apples to oranges. One guy has been on an NHL roster for almost two seasons now, the other simply never made it.

I said the Bruins were wasting him as an asset, not that he had a value around the league. If you only signed him to stay in the press box all year, what is the point in signing him at all. The Bruins could have walked away in the offseason and not spent any money on Morrrow at all. But signing him shows that they wanted to see what he could do in the league since he has never been waived to be sent down to Providence. What exactly is he able to show from watching in the press box for 2 years? How can he show that he is improving and learning from his mistakes if he doesn't play for months between games?

When a players value goes to zero, there are not a lot of teams willing to trade for that player and even less want to take a chance on them. Also Morrow problem is that he is not playing at all. Koko's problem was that he was not playing in the NHL. I always thought that Koko's skill level was not enough to make up for his size in the NHL so I never cared if Koko was here or not. Morrow has shown glimpses of being able to be a real good NHL defenceman and is just not given any playing time in Boston or Providence.

Well, I think we got our answer as to why he is still on the team with Colin and Kevan looking like they are both going to be out.

With Kevan's injury, might be the time to dust off the cobwebs off of Morrow and see what he's got. With the glut of injuries on the D, B's are lucky to have surplus NHL defencemen.

And he will get zero mulligans, even though he's sat for a month.

I do wish they would give Morrow another shot. That's a long time for a player to go without ice time and I don't think he's been that bad overall

That Russian team Koko is on is 39-5,a monster of a team. Everyone under the age of 24 except 1 player does not dress every game.

Change undervalued to devalued in your post, and that's what really happened. The guy had value, right up until he came here. Now he's got next to nothing. And pointing to Koko just shows you how dumb the organization has been with the handling of young players. Even if the guy doesn't turn out to be what he was projected, you don't take a steaming **** on your own assets. It's foolhardy. Yet that's what they've done, multiple times.

I think I'd rather watch O'Gara play over this guy if both Miller's are out long term.

That's fine, but what happens if they pull the same **** on O'Gara? Are people here going to write him off too, just because the organization didn't treat him properly too? Fundamentally speaking, you don't devalue your own assets, rendering their value to next to nothing. Yet they've been doing that for a while now.

Sure, it could absolutely happen.
But that's 100% on the coach. Sweeney doesn't make the lineup cards.

Oh I agree, but he also does have the ability to dictate who they give a fair shot to. They've even said this year multiple times how Claude was asked to incorporate and live with some of the younger guys and their mistakes this year. So the handling of Morrow and more importantly, the devaluing of another asset is clearly okay by up high. If it wasn't, he'd be in there more regularly, no?

I've also said for years that I'm not convinced the drafting was really all that bad under PC, and that how the players were handled may have impacted the fans view of those picks.

We're on the same page here. I do agree for the most part.

I'd probably like to see him over Liles. But the kid really hasn't shown me much of anything in his opportunities to be an everyday player.

Curious as to who they have been doing that to. Morrow is a tweener, but if they try and send him down they will lose him, trade him and at best you get a fourth. If he was good he would play, see Carlo. Chia's drafting left lots to be desired, Sweeney we are still on wait and see, another year or two will tell the tale. O'Gara is not ready, a least not yet or he would be here. People who complain about Claude and rookies have obviously not looked at the roster lately. Schaller, Czarnik, Carlo, C Miller, Blidh, Accardi, Heinen, and the list goes on this year. For me Morrow is the seventh dman on thus team, there is a reason he has been traded three times, not saying he is terrible but he is not quit there.

I honestly don't know if he can be an NHL player or not. I just don't think they've done enough and haven't given him enough games to know. That's where my frustration really is. You need to know to help drive the organization in the right direction. Figure it out. And not by playing him random games inconsistently. They really needed to give him a chunk of games and let him make mistakes and either learn from them or not. Then we'd all at least know.

My guess to your question: They think they know and have identified him as so.

Please. 61 random games broken up over 3 seasons. Hard to draw any honest conclusions from that. Especially when you look back and see if he made a mistake, he was not dressed the following games, unlike Carlo who has made a ton of mistakes this year but not faced any punitive actions. That's how you really develop a young guy. Throw him into the water and see if he sinks or swims. With Colin Miller and Joe Morrow, it hasn't been like that at all.

I guess the real question you need to ask is why does the stay at home dman get the opportunities to make mistakes and grow from them while the offensive minded guys can't make one mistake without getting the gate?
