If Jeff Gorton can trade Marc Staal and/or Dan Girardi in the next coming of weeks, he'll be the GOAT

That will happen mid-season. There is always a run on defensemen because 1) they're more likely to get injured or play injured (they get run into the boards more than forwards); 2) there are only 6 of them, so each one is crucial - with forwards you can get a scrub to be the #12 in sheltered situations for a few minutes, but you can't do that with defensemen. Also, you're always optimistic in August, but when you realize that the team can't keep the puck out of the net, you go hunting for defensive defensemen in December.

Midway through the season, teams will come knocking for a cheap way to acquire a defenseman who won't cost them half their farm.

If he holds on to the puck as much in the NHL, he'll be in the minor leagues very quickly. He won't get away with this stuff in the AHL, much less the NHL. The video makes me think he becomes a turnover machine as a rookie unless he cuts this stuff by 90%.

There was only one shift where he held onto the puck for too long in that video...

I'm enthusiastic about the forward group with the players who can potentially grow and improve this season. We'll have a lot of fun seeing if players like Buchnevich and Vesey pan out, and if players like Hayes, Zib, and Miller continue to develop, or if they have hit their peak.

Despite the four solid lines, the thing that really kills us is lack of offense from the blueline. Not many good first passers there. Skjei is going to need to be a big time player for this team to go anywhere.

Grabner-Jooris-Fast could be a real pain in the ass 4th line to play against.

Hence the cries for a RH PMD.

This is harsh but accurate. Like the kids potential, but expecting him to step in and score 20-20 is very lofty.

I would like to see:

Nash - Stepan - Miller
Zucc - Zib - Buch
Kreider - Hayes - Vesey
Grabner - Jooris (Lindberg) - trade/Hrivik/Jensen/invite/waivers/whatever

Very balanced top three lines that can be topped up late in games depending on if we need offensive or defensive output.
Glass dumped and Fast part of a trade to acquire upgrade on D together with Klein (or McIllraith which seems more likely)
Nash maybe dealt at The deadline
But I almost guarantee you this will not be our lineup come October

If your forwards come back deep enough moving the puck isn't as big of a deal. Look at Pittsbrugh.

Although I agree they need to find a couple of players who can move the puck, Skjei will help.

Big props to RB here. From the business side he was all over this far before anyone especially the NYR beat writers even knew who Vesey was. Nearly all of how he posted it was exactly how it played out. Was impressive!

Props to Gordon, Drury, Hayes and all involved. Two pretty solid moves this off season.

Can't wait for camp!

The Rangers and Vesey made a lot it sense. It's close to home for him without being at home. The Rangers have a very good track record with developing young American players. Callahan. Dubinsky. Stepan. McDonagh. Kreider. Miller. Hayes. Skjei. The relationships with the Vesey agency. The Rangers had the cap space to absorb the bonuses with the Zibanejad trade. The room for the 2nd contract is there. Vesey apparently loves Drury. If Vesey needs to talk to someone,Drury is there. He made the jump from college hockey to the NHL. The Rangers check off all of the boxes except for being a Cup contender. That's up to Gorton. He knows that. Everyone believes Vesey could have played in the NHL last season and is a minimum top 9 player right now with the ability becoming a solid top 6 NHL forward. You can't want more than that.

If Dallas really wants to go for it this year they need more stability on The backend. Now. Klein plus Skapski for Honka and a mid pick?

Honka is the perfect player. He can grow with the team. His contract will be cheap for the next 4-5 seasons. The Rangers covet him. McDonagh said he wants to be the player he was in 13-14. Skjei. Add Honka. Graves becomes the player who sees some NHL time this season and becomes a regular D in 17-18.

I think they look smaller than that. Honka is a very nice piece but why does Dallas move him? What about someone like Ryan Murphy or Ryan Sproul, Ville Pokka, Mueller in SJ. There are other options outside of the high end guys. Find the right type of partner and the guy playing with McDonagh doesn't need to be a #1.

Vesey was a one-man show for Harvard and generates offense even when matched against top players. The ECAC competition thing is moot since he was crushing out-of-conference games the last two years. Very tough to handle, very good speed for a big guy but no first-step quickness. His wrister is his money maker - very accurate but release is so-so. Doesnt use slapper enough above the dots. He's big but physical only in trying to gain positioning. He's not mean or physically intimidating or a defensive-zone battler. His vision is excellent for a power forward and he can make plays in tight spaces.

Very good prospect but not elite. The whole "free 1st rounder" stuff is nonsense. He was never a first rounder, nor was he even drafted in his first look. He had his best seasons at ages 21/22, meaning you'd have to liken every dominant UFA/UDFA amateur to a "free 1st rounder".

All things considered, I'd say Vesey is a top-60 prospect but in the bottom half.

He becomes a UFA in 4 years, whereas a typical 1st rounder debuts at around 20 and gives teams more control.

It should be kept in mind that he's playing to the level of competition he's facing. Players have instincts about what kind of pressure is on them and from what direction and then there's their own confidence in reacting to the pressure that's around them.

I suspect that when he moves to the NHL he will have to adjust and do things much quicker. What I'm seeing in that video is a smart and skilled player.
