Don't laugh lot of busts drafted in that first round that today Wouldn't be considered first round talents.

But if you go back now 2010 we get 2 first round picks in Mcilrath and Hayes

2011 we get 3 in Zibanejad Miller and Jensen

2012 we get Skjei and Vesey

2013 no first rounders but we steal Duclair Buchnevich and Ryan Graves in rounds 3 and 4

2014 is where we get hurt but manage to solidify goaltending depth with Halverson and Shestyorkin

2015 again no top flight picks hurt here but Rangers very high on Gropp and Kovacs

So if you go back to 2010 we did a heck of a job on the back end here getting some of these top guys from those drafts.

I meant that entire third round looks better than the first arguably in terms of some of the guys drafted. Gillies Ghost Vesey Parayko come to mind. That's rare

Vesey, Hayes and Buch are the equivalent of getting three 1st rounders. And Duclair is also a 1st round talent that was used to get a premier PMD. Maybe Sean Day ends up reaching his potential. And, take it however you wish, but Clark made it clear that Gropp was their target even if they had their #1 pick last year.

Latest interview quote from the man himself (yesterday):

""I'm a big body--6'2", 205 pounds--and I think I like to play a mix of a power forward and a skilled forward," stated Vesey. "I think my offensive instincts would be the strong suit of my game.""

Yeah, he was done when he signed with us, but still a better captain than Callahan. His leadership made him valuable despite him regressing.

I could not disagree more. There was nothing that Drury did as Captain that impressed me in the slightest.

Callahan was world's better and that is conceding he wasn't a great captain.

Drury was one of the worst captains in this franchise history.

Yes I'd agree if we had that first round pick between 26 and 30 they would have taken Gropp.

Also good point on Sean Day loved that pick. Great no risk high reward prospect.

Agreed in Drury awful from day one here. And as captain? I despised his attitude. At least Gomez had an all star season.

Fans have not warmed up to his hiring at all. Finally he does something here to help this franchise.

I mean, this is all based on play on the ice. Drury was a disaster on the ice the two seasons he was captain (a big part of it injuries) while Callahan was the lay it all out there and do what it takes to win. It doesn't help that Drury was always a quiet guy when people wanted a captain that apparently yells and gets mad when things don't go well. But guys like Stepan and McDonagh always talked highly of Drury and how important he was in the locker room and that's things that fans ultimately don't see.

Never thought from the start of the rumors of him not signing in Nashville that he would sign with the Rangers.
yeah I was 99.9% certain we wouldn't sign him. Over the past few weeks and months the Rangers were not mentioned one bit.

Super excited to have a few young players to look forward this season. It'll be a fun one! Plus having our draft picks all in check is a positive.

I guess you didn't watch Callahan's last season with us...he COASTED each game, trying not to get hurt knowing it was contract year as he tried to bend us over backwards for a retirement contract...the only time he went all out was in the Olympics (thank god he didn't get hurt) and when he got back it was more of the same disinterested play. Good work by Slats to get rid of him (while I am not in love with the St. Louis deal, it did propel us for that great run).

Nothing personal, I just hate when people glorify Callahan when he completely tarnished his Rangers tenure with that last year of play; good riddance and I'm glad Tampa bay is stuck with that albatross of a contract/player and not us.

I'm talking more in general during their entire tenures of captaincy. Callahan's my final season here was definitely one to forget.
