Didn't expect him to get him and I didn't really care if we got him or not. So needless to say this doesn't bother me at all. Just glad he didn't sign in Buffalo. Leafs will be just fine without him, we've got plenty of young guys who can play the LW and Vesey's numbers aren't even that impressive.

Leivo was drafted in that exact 3rd round too.
Produced more at the NHL level.

Hes the man in NYR in terms of prospects. He'll get prime minutes and opportunity.

Here he would be where? Maybe our 5th best prospect?

Anyways, having Matthews has erased any anger I could have had about this. Everyone else pales in comparison.

Excellent. He'll be the best forward on a terrible team moving forward if he doesn't bust.

I'd rank Vesey as our sixth best prospect most likely.

Matthews
Nylander
Marner
Zaitsev
Brown
Vesey
Kapanen

Too close to Ottawa and Montreal
Had no idea, but guessed Boston, gut feeling that the Leafs were out as soon as the whole courting process became a bit of a media circus the last few weeks began. He would have signed in Buffalo early if he had any intention. New York area made the most sense. I thought the Flyers might surprise given their strong prospect pool especially on defense. Anybody want a nice shiny Rick Nash?

Meh, don't really care tbh. Never thought he was coming here. Only wanted him to see the ******** mainboard fans

Our forward depth is amazing as is. He was always more of a luxury for us. He was a need for the Rangers.

Personally, I thought he would have been in the 7-14 range. The big 3 are a given, and then Brown, Zaitsev, and probably Kapanen are all better prospects.

No room for Vesey anyway.

NYC is a nice fit for Vesey and Vesey is a nice fit for the NYR.

The Leafs could not possibly give him any kind of special consideration here. It would upset the whole rebuild plan.

Better that they let him go.

Why is he better than Kapanen?

He's 3 years older than Kapanen and definitely does not have a superior skill set. He'd be in the top 10 for sure, but he's not better than Kapanen. Kapanen has much higher boom potential (granted he probably has higher bust potential too).

Don't even think KK has more bust potential. US College hockey is full of busts.

Go check out the Hobey Baker winners ... the best players in college and a lot of them don't make the show permanently. Eichel and Gaudreau are very much outliers.

KK has some AMAZING pedigree and is playing in the A at 19 ... not easy.

We (yes I said we) hit the draft lottery and got to draft Matthews. I've still got the afterglow from that. We'll need to miss out on 5 more of these guys before it starts to sting. Google Matt Gilroy, Junior Lessard, Fabian Brunnstrom and see how this sometimes ends up.

I feel like Vesey is a safer bet to make the NHL right now. Kapanen is a few years younger, and I concur he has the higher skill-set, but I think Vesey is more of a safe bet at this current time. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kapanen end up better though.

I feel the same way as I did when we didnt get Stamkos.

Would I have loved to see Vesey here? Sure. Am I upset that we didnt get him? No.

I dont buy into the hype of these college players after watching what happened to Schultz here in Edmonton. Wasn't Brunnstrom another college player that never turned into anything?

I was wrong and it wasn't in our favour, unfortunately. Close to home, good opportunity and a likely playoff team, I guess. Still happy with our team/offseason and where we're headed.

No matter what they're sellin'... NY really is a favourite players destination.

Now all I can say is:
