Someone, I follow (not a source) said based on his "qualifiers" it was either us or NYR.

It is strange that he decided to go to a team, who are declining.
Another thing is, since he didn't want to go to ourselves or the Sabres (to play with his good buddy Eich), here with Auston or with Chicago, he may want to be THE man. He'll have a great opportunity there.

We'll see him in January.

Maybe. Although his agent said he didn't like to be the center of attention, however, Rags and all is some attention.

I do with him luck. We will be blowing by the Rags in a few years anyways.

Honestly, not to be a rick with a P, but I am not too sure if Jimmy could put up a ppg in the AHL like Leivo.

Jimmy will be playing in the NHL so AHL totals won't apply for him. ;)

Vesey and Leivo are both 23 and both were former 3rd round picks so we will see how this turns out.

I'll be honest, with our prospect depth being what it is, the biggest reason why I wanted him to sign here was to see the reaction in Buffalo. It's already pretty hilarious they paid a 3rd for a player who never had any intention of signing with them, but if he signed in Toronto? Especially after Babcock? Oh, man, it would have been glorious. Aside from that, NYR seems like a good fit for Vesey. Close to home, less competition for ice time than elsewhere, and he gets to live in Manhattan. Not a bad gig.

if he didn't want to be the centre of attention.... why not go to Nashville?

like... again. I don't know. I don't even care, whatever kid. not the centre of attention, on the eastern seaboard, and on a team where .... they're weird. you do you.

let's focus on the people who want to be here, and want to be Leafs.

Glad he did not go to Buffalo. That's all I wanted. I don't know if he's good or not, I'm just glad Tim Murray didn't get him.

Didn't expect him to get him and I didn't really care if we got him or not. So needless to say this doesn't bother me at all. Just glad he didn't sign in Buffalo. Leafs will be just fine without him, we've got plenty of young guys who can play the LW and Vesey's numbers aren't even that impressive.

He's a good free wallet that I would have liked to have. I think he's got 40-50 point potential. His first season will likely be what he's capable of doing on average.

Good thing is he went to the Rangers. That's the best outcome outside of Leafs getting him in the East.

Playing close to home where he can drive and not need to fly was always what he wanted and said.

nobody drives over 200 miles (320KM) over flying if time is a factor. That is a 3 hour drive, while Detroit (too far away) is a 2 hour flight. Not too mention, driving and NY. Not making too much sense.

I'm comfortable that the Leafs gave it a good shot. Good luck to Jimmy Vesey (except against the Leafs). I hope Nolan develops into a good prospect, makes the Leafs and becomes the better Vesey playing in the NHL. Remember where you heard this first:)

He picked a team on the decline, with arguably the weakest prospect pool in the league?

Oh, okay.

Oh, okay.

Hes the man in NYR in terms of prospects. He'll get prime minutes and opportunity.

Here he would be where? Maybe our 5th best prospect?

Anyways, having Matthews has erased any anger I could have had about this. Everyone else pales in comparison.
