No, he's not been good enough. You're talking about one of the worst goaltenders that's played this year. I'm not saying overall, that he's one of the worst in the league, but he's been one of the worst this year. Why? If Kinkaid is that bad there's no reason to play him another game. I'm not trying to bust your chops, we traded Wedgewood, a completely competent backup goaltender, for a 5th round pick. If Kinkaid is THAT bad, then don't play him another game.
I'm not saying Kinkaid has been great this year, but I think he's been good enough to use on the back end when they play consecutive nights. That's like a base level use case for a backup goaltender. If you don't think he's good enough for that role, he's not good enough to keep on the roster.
This is a team that had Martin Brodeur for over 20 years and there's members of it's fanbase that think Kinkaid this year has been good enough to use on the back end when we play consecutive nights? This is almost an insult to the fanbase of the team that Brodeur was the face of for so many years. Come on now, I really expect better than this goaltending and defending this goaltending.
Wedgewood isn't very good, he looks that much better right now because Kinkaid has been that much worse. Sadly, we probably don't have a goaltender better than him in the system right now, so we have to settle for this and hope when he gets in there (which should be rare going forward) that he can have a good game on two, even if it's on complete accident.
To make the playoffs, we might need 63-65 games from Cory, and he's only on pace to play 59 games this year.
