You're gnawing away on this like he wasn't our best player tonight. If you feel like he's that bad, then you must think he shouldn't play at all, right? What's your answer? Get a new backup? Or play no one but Corey the rest of the way? I'd like to know.
For a start? I'd like to see Cory played in 3 games this week.

We are flushing points with .893 goaltending. If we get four points over the next two games, I'd consider playing Kinkaid on Friday night.

I'm not saying bench him forever, hopefully he'll have a good game one of these days, but he's shown that he fluctuates wildly from year to year, like most backups. Maybe he'll have a good run from here on out and play well for the rest of the season, when he's called on. We better hope so.

The good news, is that he hasn't had two bad years in a row yet, so even if he's bad this year, it doesn't mean he's gonna be bad next year.

If we wanna make the playoffs, we probably need 63-65 games from Cory, and he's only on pace to play 59 games this year.

If you're going to vent, direct it at the team defense. They were atrocious. The Rangers should have scored a TD with a two point conversion. No amount of PPs (which sucks too) was going to help.

The Rangers are better on D than we are. Shattenkirk + McDonut are better than anyone on our roster AINEC.

Not for nothing, but let's not kid ourselves here.

If Kinkaid signed with the Rangers last year and had these numbers over there, most of this board would be laughing at him.

If some divisional rival had a goalie with these numbers this year, we'd be laughing at them. And it wouldn't just be me.

You aren’t watching the game if you think we played even close to competent defense this weekend.

We are giving up 30+ shots each night with a large majority grade A chances in front.

So who takes the blame then?

Isn't it the Goaltender's job to stop the puck from going into the net?

Isn't it the Goaltender's job to be the last line of defense when his own team is playing like ass on the ice?

I saw what you saw in regards to how terribad the team was tonight in front of Kinkaid but at the same time, he needs to stop more of the pucks than he did last night(and please don't bring up youtube vids like that poster did of Kinkaid's better moments as if that excuses him).

Yes, he was under siege but so was Cory. In fact, Cory has been under siege almost every game the Devils have played this season and he manages to make the saves that needed to be made.

Kinky, while he has a decent game here and there, just isn't all THAT good.

All I know is this : We're in deep kaka right now with the Kings coming into town as well as having to travel up to Montreal where I'm sure the Refs are going to give us a billion penalties, and then have a pretty tough Dallas Stars team coming to town as well at the end of the week. 4 out of 6 points(at least), Eddy. That should be the goal now.

you guys can sit here and talk about who did this and who didnt do that all night. i think you overlook the mental game. which leads to exactly what you are talking about. execution. they were picked to be dead last this season, exceeded expectations, and are now facing some adversity. they are literally hanging on by a thread. its the only reason why i was skeptical about the rico trade. he was the calming force in the locker room. i think people overlook the impact of a trade like that sometimes.
yet despite that they came back and won some games. this team is still legit they are just finding their way. they will need some time and refs messing with them does not help. im not going to sit here and talk stats and positioning with you people. i was never good at either. but i get the mental side of building a team. not trying to be some guru but it seems like poeple tend to ignore the mental game a bit too much.

And if anything, maybe we should start playing Kinkaid on the first half of a back to back, for the fact that the team might play a little better in the first half and Cory can clean up on the second half of back to back's, when the team lays an egg like tonight.

Because with the way he's playing this year, if you allow 30-40 shots, he's most likely allowing 4-5 goals.

The last time I ever remember any player calling out any goaltender here even a little was when Zach had a couple of subtext quotes on Marty after Game 3 against the Panthers :P It's just not done even when they're playing poorly. Really I don't see a lot of goalies getting thumbed by their own teammates anywhere else.

The ranger announcers even said they were shocked how many uncontested shooting opportunities the rangers compiled. Like I said, Cory would have been lit up like a Christmas tree with all those odd man breaks. Stopping 1 on 1s isn't his strength.

Quoted for emphasis. We played very poorly against Florida, yet the score didn't look as bad, since Cory was pretty good in that game. I would say we played even worse that game than tonight, as we didn't show up until the 3rd period in that game. The score was closer in that game, due to pretty good goaltending.

Kinkaid faced a ridiculous amount of breakaways, uncontested shots from the slot, and shots immediately following cross ice passes tonight.

On top of that, there were plenty of times when Rangers players had tons of time and space in the offensive zone to make plays -- Zuccarello's goal being a prime example. Two cross-ice passes in succession following with Zuccarello having a completely uncontested shot. He had the time to be able to pick where he wanted to shoot it, but apparently we're going to blame that goal on Kinkaid. Want to hear @Bleedred response about this goal.

The shots faced tonight aren't even remotely the same as what Schneider has faced in his last several starts.

So, this is the first two game stretch where we haven't earned a point this season. That's actually really good, when you think about.

I don't know, still feeling pretty optimistic about this year. Overall, our GM and even our coach have been relatively proactive about things. Even the best team in the league will lose two or three games in a row during a season. It happens.

The talent is there, the tempo isn't. That's easier to fix than the opposite.

They basically did. Pavelec actually has comparable numbers to KK this year (well a slightly better save percentage and a slightly worse GAA).

No, no, no, no, no and no.

Once again, before this year, Kinkaid had the more impressive pro career. One of the reasons that Wedgewood has been so much better this year is because Kinkaid has been one of the worst in the league this year, much more than how good Wedgewood has been, which isn't all that good....

It's not even as good as Kinkaid was last year or in 14-15.

A bunch of you guys are contradicting yourselfs.
Was it Kinks fault or the team?

I say our defense deserves the blame.

Kink getting railroaded in this thread.
So, maybe Wedge should have been kept like I had said all along?

Goals 1 and 4 were stoppable, just like goal 2 on Cory last night.

You're right to hang the 4th goal on Kinkaid, but not the first one. Even the 4th goal wasn't even close to as bad as Columbus' 2nd goal last night. Meanwhile, Kinkaid made at least 5 highlight reel saves tonight that kept this game from being far worse than it was. The save he made on Nash on that 2 on 1 was one of the best saves either goalie has made this year.

Who gives a ****? What goalie doesn't let in stoppable shots? THEY ALL DO. I don't care what Kinkaid's stats are this year, he's played like 6 games, and the team has played like miserable dog **** in front of him. It's just bizarre to me that after the dumpster fire we just watch people are dragging one of the few guys that actually played well.

We're both wasting our time. People here are angry after an ugly loss and don't understand how difficult it is for a goalie to consistently play well when they don't play regularly and the starts they do get are almost exclusively in the second game of a back to back. When evaluating the play of a backup goalie, you obviously can't tell how they'd do playing 60 games. But I guarantee the majority would put up better numbers with 40 starts per season than they do with 20.

Why? If Kinkaid is that bad there's no reason to play him another game. I'm not trying to bust your chops, we traded Wedgewood, a completely competent backup goaltender, for a 5th round pick. If Kinkaid is THAT bad, then don't play him another game.

I'm not saying Kinkaid has been great this year, but I think he's been good enough to use on the back end when they play consecutive nights. That's like a base level use case for a backup goaltender. If you don't think he's good enough for that role, he's not good enough to keep on the roster, I don't see how you can argue otherwise.

Not for nothing, but let's not kid ourselves here.

If some divisional rival had a goalie with these numbers this year, we'd be laughing at them. And it wouldn't just be me.

What the f*** does that matter? I don't really think we care that much how their backup goaltenders play. Do we spend a lot of time laughing at Pavelec?

So who takes the blame then?

Isn't it the Goaltender's job to stop the puck from going into the net?

When you have a save percentage lower than Pavelec's, you're doing something bad.

It's still early for Kinkaid to turn his season around, but not much time left. In fact, one more game where he allows 4 or 5 goals (With one or two weak ones), I don't know if I wanna see him in more than a handful of games after that or give him much of a chance to turn it around. A couple shutouts or 1 goal games would get him back a bit above .900 on the season. And I know it's hard to have shutouts and 1 goal games on this team, with how many shots we allow, but the goals against are that much higher when he plays. And this isn't the first season that he's struggled. He was a .903 in 15-16, when the consensus around here was that we were a solid defensive team.

I can justify playing him IF by some miracle, we beat the Kings and get TWO POINTS and then beat the Habs AND the Refs up there in Montreal and get another TWO POINTS. He can then play against Dallas.

But if we get anything less than 4, we stick with Cory.
