Somewhere in the middle
He has lost all confidence with himself and does not belong on the team...and this is coming from someone who's been pulling for him since his BC days.

I agree with the confidence thing, I also see his style & ceiling of play as the kind of player that is just lost in today's game. While I am sure part of it is confidence, to me he just doesn't have the agility, grit or burst speed a guy his size needs to maintain a roster spot in the NHL these days, regardless of where he plays the game is moving as fast as it ever did.

Did he peak in college? Feel bad for the kid, just fell apart since moving here. Understand he's a like able guy for the team, just don't think Boston is the place for him. Needs to get out of this market!!

Don't forget, the system they employ takes away points from a forward to a degree. Defensive responsibility is a big part of what they do. Hayes was a ladder line player so now he's even worse. Doesn't seem like he knows what to do out there.

I feel for Jimmy. The effort is there. He's just lost all confidence in himself.

With that being said it's time. He can't stay on his feet, and for a guy his size he doesn't win nearly enough board battles. I hope he can move on to another team and away from the pressures of his home town and find his game. By all accounts he seems like a great guy.

Jimmy Hayes to St Louis for Ryan Reaves.

add pieces as you would.

Last time I checked Sweeney did not have compromising pictures of Doug Armstrong. Barring a night of drunken revelry in Tijuana I don't think Armstrong will be making this deal.

IN light of the Heinen recall I was hopeful that his position in the lineup would last longer. Thought he would fit in nicely on the wing with Spoons and Czarnik. Wishful thinking I suppose. Should have known Claude would not assemble two rookie wings and a defensively challenged Spooner on one line. So he inserted the reliable vet on RW. He didn't factor in either goal. And on and on it goes...........

It's definitely at the point where it makes no sense to play him anymore, even in a 4th line role. We have lots of players that would be better in that role than Hayes.

And rightly so.

Claude is not free from criticism, but in all fairness reticence to use rookies this season isn't a valid criticism.

Heinen may be a solid prospect, but he looked utterly lost and overpowered out there on the recent call-up. He's just not ready. Putting him on a line with Spooner would result in total failure at this stage.

is it better for Jimmy to stay up vs getting his confidence back up?
Are they close and that's why?

There may be confidence issues, but even guys that are struggling can decide to bring 100% effort every night. Jimmy doesn't have be confident in his goal scoring to skate hard, throw his big body around, win board battles, and make simple, effective passes. But he doesn't, so better to get him gone. If time in A acts as a wake-up call for him and he rededicates himself to being a physical presence and hard worker, then great for us, but as he is currently constituted, he is taking a roster spot away from a young player that needs and deserves some time.

Absolutely.

The Habs game had some intensity and significant stakes. Didn't seem to hard for players on both teams to rise to the occasion.

Still, at one point in the third Hayes' "finished" a check on one of the Habs against the boards. It had zero snarl, zero impact, and zero intent. No exaggeration -- it was a "check" I'd expect someone would have thrown in practice against Bergeron on his very first practice shift after returning from the Jones concussion. It was so tepid it stood out like a sore thumb.

THAT drives me nuts and is IMO inexcusable. Not saying I expect Hayes' to hit people like a freight train -- it's not in his nature. But to gently push a guy against the boards like you're playing in an over 50 league where everyone needs to do a real job in the morning in that game against the Habs tells me all I need to know.

And to think there's at least the chance Boston lost out on Vesey because the Hayes' family says the atmosphere is too tense here for a local boy. Can't make this stuff up.

Maybe a trip to Providence will light a fire under his butt. Because he is doing NOTHING for the big team right now.

o

It really was a sorry to display, I agree. As you said, no one is asking him to be Derian Hatcher or Scott Stevens out there, but he's got to bring more than that. It might be tough being a local boy, but I see it as tough only if you play like Hayes is playing right now. If he was out there laying it on the line night after night, I suspect it wouldn't be quite so tough on him

To top it off, he can't even catch a break. In the second period tonight he was alone in front of the goal with Murray down and an open net. But the rebound hopped over his stick.

It's witchcraft, I tell ya.

To his credit he did put forth a good credit by parking his carcass in front of the net. But I also saw him lose some battles along the boards that he should have won.
