Wheeler excited for game four. I’ll be excited if he shows up for game four
_________________________________________________

As a Jet's fan, I'm more worried that we've signed Wheeler, to a 5 year $ 8.5 million dollar contract, at 33 years old ?? To pay a guy that kind of money, to give post game excuse interviews is beyond me.

Sort of reminds me of the bad Ladd contract the NYI signed him too. This Wheeler contract could really drag this team down, if he continues to play the way he is now, and declining slowly every year with age.

Maybe let Seattle claim him ,and get some young draft picks in here.

He’s perfectly built for hockey. He just can’t drive play without an elite centre. Excellent complimentary piece, however.

No he can't - and Copp as much as I love the guy, is not going to drive the play that Connor can't.
I get why KC is taking a lot of flak - he's build his game around playing with one very good center his complete NHL career and now he's flailing in the wind. He's also tired - did I mention that earlier ;)

Good post - Connor is not going to get it done in the playoffs without a highly skilled center that plays his game. There is no doubt in my mind that he lost without Scheif out there. So is Wheeler and so would Laine BTW.

Mark my words, Jets will win the next two.
Helly will stand on his head, JoMo and Demelo will play close to 30 minutes, and KFC will score a couple key goals.

That's the only way I see them winning.

I don’t think Connor is mailing it in. He’s not playing demonstrably different than he was during the season. He scores goals off of shots in the slot or a pass that frees him into space where his great hands make him a plus scorer in close. He doesn’t enter the zone with possession effectively and his passing/vision is average at absolute best so he doesn’t really create for his linemates. So when he doesn’t have someone putting him in position to score, he’s not going to do it himself.

I think my biggest gripe is that he's just aimlessly drifting around the offensive zone waiting for someone else to do the heavy lifting. He's not even moving to the front of the net for tip ins, which he had plenty of this season.
He's also not using his speed offensively or defensively and that's a big symptom of the larger problem with the team right now.

I know that all three of my "usual suspects" came out to roast me over the open fire, and I'm not gonna lie, I'd have actually been SUPREMELY disappointed if they didn't. So shit, yeah, maybe on another day you'd get me fired up for a ban-worthy tirade, but not today. I get why you guys are pissed off, and for once, I'm more mad than you. So by all means, you got the champ down, I expect you to throw the elbows like Randy Savage, or even worse, like f***face Tkachuk.

But for now, as a poker player, let me tell you my own personal experience with a player who was, basically, a similar skid-mark excuse of a human being like Tkachuk.

It's in the poker world.

I'll call him "Brandon", because that was his name. And he was also a pretty good player, don't get me wrong; just like Tkachuk, he was a B- player whose asshole skill set drew him into a B+ spot. No complaints here.

So.

I'm playing a poker table with Brandon. He starts, predictably, by cussing out every player who ever raises him off the pot. Old Man Joe calls his triple-barrel bluff down with top-pair, no kicker, and Brandon (salty as f*** that his no-pair busted flush draw got caught speeding) starts spewing at him for being "such a f***ing re-tread [or similar] [his words]" to call with one pair.

Every player that ever resists Brandon gets cards thrown at his or her chest.

The dealer, normally the referee in a poker tournament, is a shy young man for whom English is a THIRD language, *at best*. He just wants to get through his 20 minutes without fist fights flying.

Eventually, I've had enough when he turns his ire to the waitress, and calls her a "stupid :eek::eek::eek:" (again, his words) for being five (AT MOST) minutes late with his $2 breakfast special.

Well, it's not a gender thing, it's a combatant thing, okay?

I'm fine with him, as a fellow combatant, being an asshole to the other 9 people trying to steal his lunch money, but the swing at the waitress is enough.

I call him out and loudly excoriate him for being a dick.

Well, NOW, this is what it takes to get the floorman (i.e. the referee) over. She, like so many beleaguered parents, has no idea what "justice" is; and at any rate, she doesn't want "justice", she just wants QUIET.

She tells us that the next one of me (who has said nothing for thirty minutes) and Brandon (who has insulted every other player, the dealer repeatedly, AND the waitress without surcease) to speak up is getting DQed.

As soon as she leaves, he leans over and whispers in my ear, "I'm gonna f***ing kill you".

This is, pretty much, how NHL refereeing works. And Brandon is, pretty much, how Tkachuk and Lucic and Rinaldo work.

Long story short, I yelled out to the "ref" and I said exactly what Brandon said to me, and then I told him, point blank, "tell her I'm right, or call me a liar".

Her solution, again in line with NHL punitions (lol) was to put us both on separate tables, i.e. give us the same penalty, and for her to tell ME how lucky ***I*** was for not getting a DQ, lol.

Of course, Brandon has done this exact same f***ing routine a hundred times since the last time I saw him. At least in poker, people like him wind up crossing the wrong people at the wrong time and, frankly, I hope his widow has nothing to remember him by save a Crown Royal bag of his chiclets.

But the point is, I know f***ing shit-stain excuses like Tkachuk and Lucic and Rinaldo personally; I know what shit they'll run to give them a 5% bigger chance to steal a $20 pot; imagine what these festering f***faces will do with stars on the line!

Anyways.

Sorry for long personal tirade, bla bla bla, GJG, please remember 20% is a big number, etc. etc.

KC has wicked hands but if people are waiting for him to drive play or take over they haven’t been watching him. Kyle is a complimentary asset.
________________________________________________

Your 100 % right about Connor --as he's more of a white collar player, that sort of floats around, and hangs around the net, and scores a lot of goals. He won't drive the play as you say, and will always avoid the rough going, but he has a great pair of scoring hands. Things tighten up in the playoffs tho, and he looks very invisible out there to me.

I'd love to see some more intensity out of Kyle -- we need that from him, and his goal scoring. He looks very ordinary out there right now, and he has to learn to find another higher gear for playoff hockey -- like Nik Ehlers has. Ehlers has been our best player this series IMO.

Kyle Connor plays a lot like Patrick Kane from the Hawks, "without" Kanes intensity, and their both about the same size. Kyle's gotta get it together.

Well he’s really never used his speed defensively and other than on the back check, speed isn’t that necessary as a defensive skill in the first place. I really don’t blame Connor at all here. The expectations of him were going to be far too high as THE guy on the top line. If anything it’s more of an indictment of Wheeler who is supposed to be an elite set-up man that the two of them can’t get anything going. You can’t ask a player to be a play driver when that just isn’t within their skill set. Seriously, go back and watch any of Connor’s goals this season and see how many he created for himself. Hell, even watch his assists and see how many were him opening space for someone else. It’s very few. And that’s fine because he absolutely has a major role on this team, he’s just not a Panarin or a Patrick Kane or any of the very few elite play driving wingers.

If anything, this series highlights even further how good Ehlers is that he’s basically creating offence playing with absolutely no one (Kulikov’s amazing pass notwithstanding)

Aimlessly drifting is not true but I can see how some would see it that way.
He's trying to do stuff he doesn't do well - like driving the line and setting up the play.
He actually had a number of good outlets today and that is usually where he is weak.
In his own zone, he's trying to be the puck carrier and set up man and he's not - and when he isn't carrying the puck, he appears to be standing around because the pucks are not coming to him. There's no one driving the line - it's a mess.

Unfortunately your very right, and I doubt that Wheeler would waive his NMC, but you never know ? maybe he'd like a change in scenery. I'd like to see some young 1st round draft picks picked up, and a couple of physical defenseman. We're really getting pushed around by the Flames, and I think some changes have to be made.

Starters : -- get rid of Eakin, and Perrault and their way overbucked contracts. That's where you start -- "right away"

If we win this series, I'd just about eat my hat -- we look like a B calibre AHL team out there.

Hah! Holy shit, you are in fact the second-best Brandon I know. This guy was a f***ing sad sack excuse for a human. I couldn't even rant about him, because I know I'd never do him injustice. I think everyone knows a cesspit excuse of a human like him, well, he was every part of the stereotype and then some.

Love you too bud; don't worry, I'm super safe. See you in game four when Bucky leads us to a 1-0 win despite Bingo Tkachuck putting out our 7th-9th players, lol.

Ugh Wheeler and Connor are pissing this all away. Morrissey might as well show up, but he stunk all year, so no surprises. The D in general is just...

Embarrassing effort. Although neither of these teams are winning the cup... Might be better to get the draft pick. :(

Morrissey has a 60 CF% and a 55 Xgf% this series. What more are you expecting with the forward group playing in front of him. He held their top line to 4 shots on net tonight and was on for some of our more dangerous chances. Hes doing his job well, one on the few this playoffs who is. No complaints by me with his performance.

We are stuck with Wheeler now just like we are Maurice.
