But still, such a huge jump, from non playoff team to Cup favorite, like just a little tweak things were made and it was enough.
#bandwagon fan btw. Close it in 6, please.

If you had to boil it down to one thing, goaltending. Also all the 1st round picks since 2011 have been impact NHL players. So the team is just getting older and better.

Why the improvement?

Definitely, goaltending is a primary reason. Going from well below league average to Vezina-worthy is a pretty huge factor. But there are a lot of other things that helped - better schedule for one. Also, we got hammered hard by injuries last year. We did this year too, but we had much better depth to survive it with.

Some thoughts.

* Yes, we got lucky to a degree, at least in the mathematical sense for sure, to score that first goal. It sure tilted the complexion and made Nashville chase the game. I think I've beat this drum before :P but that's the thing about luck. You lean on it too much and it catches up with you later. Luck runs out. The luckiest team in the regular season has found that out the hard way this season.

* When they scored right in the middle of one of those ridiculous nine minute Broadway production goal chants, I laughed and laughed and laughed. That was perfect.

* Boy oh boy did Connor break out tonight. The whole #1 line in fact. That dipsy-doodle to set up Schiefele, and then Wheeler's picture perfect backhand pass to set him up again. Just amazing.

* I'm as optimistic as the next Jets fan, but if you told me going into the series that we'd have a significant edge in goaltending this series, even I wouldn't have believed it. But as a great mathematician with a deplorable excess of personality once said, "... well.. there you have it."

* CBC's coverage has been deplorable. First time I went with NBC from pillar to post. Faint praise to be sure, but Keith Jones is at least an upgrade on Kypreos if nothing else. And it was great to hear Chris Cuthbert's voice again.

Yes I would like to see the anointed Vezina winner pulled in the first :thumbu:

... for the third time in a 6 game series, one might add :) But yes, assuming he even gets the start, let's run him right back out of town as fast as his two feet can carry him.

1) Yes great goaltening

2) better discipline on penalties

3) addition of Myers on defence

4) Young draft picks are "all" working out-starting to score-Connor vs Preds !!!

The biggest of these is Helle in goal sporting about a .935 % save percentage -- you just can't go wrong with that. I think Rinne for the Preds is at .885 --big difference.

I don't think the neutral fans get to experience anything close to the highs we hard core fans do though. We clench long and hard, but when games like last night happen its absolute pure joy.

I think this is finally their year, just tired of seeing the Pens anymore hahaha...Ovi deserves at least that shot to be in a Cup final..

I hope it is Seasons in the Abyss for the Penguins on Monday!!!

Musical Interlude!!
Perhaps there is a golf course somewhere in Egypt.

Toronno
good morning.
life is fun at times, is it not?

who would have thought that our playoff MVP list would be:
Scheifele
Buff
Helle
Tanev

one could argue that last night's game was Kyle Connor's best game as a pro. Holy smokes.

yesterday, i got the call from a Dutch brewer that just moved to Toronto. he wanted to watch the Jets' game. translation: "Let's get royally pissed and watch hockey." so the details of the game may not be precise, but my hangover sure is

TSN is SO much better than CBC
Some say that they need to stay neutral. I completely disagree. We are Canada’s only team left and they should be Homers. They would be if it was the Leafs.
But they aren’t even Neutral. They literally seem to be cheering for Nashville.
Absolutely ridiculous.

I agree that TSN is better then the CBC for hockey coverage but I give CBC kudo for having the 1st period intermission of the Caps and Pens game all about the Preds/Jets game.

If the Jets keep winning CBC will come around to acknowledging the best team in Canada.

Can we stop talking about a Jets/Knights final when BOTH of our series aren't over?

That **** makes me nervous.

Great post, and I totally agree --this series is far from over--the Preds are not quitters, and went to the final last year. We don't want to " jinx" the Jet's chances of advancing by talking about future opponents we may never play.

Just 1 more game to win--"then that's it" -- let's hope it's Monday night !!!:thumbu:

It's more like jinxing the GK chances to advance. The Jets are a lock for the finals :naughty:

If the Jets keep winning not only will the CBC acknowledge that the Jets are for real but Toronto fans may actually agree that the Jets are the best team in Canada.;)

I thought his game would be tomorrow so accidentally spoiled this one as well, but just watched it and the Jets looked so calm. Really liked Trouba and Morrissey on defense, Buff was his usual self and Hellebuyck back to normal. Standout game from the first line, congrats O’Connor!
Laine with his usual crossbar hit (third in the series??), boy has he been unlucky. Bad bounce on the PP as well, those happen, onwards to the next game where we close out the series!

We've seen it all year, and in the playoffs too. The Preds always have had an answer.

Long from over.

I believe "strongly" you and many other posters are "wrong" about this, and underestimate the "political clout" this forum has on Jet's policy and game plans. This is a business, and we are their customers--you can "bet" the Jet's executive and Maurice read these forums--"I have no doubt"

There was an uproar about Maurice playing Hendricks on here--and the panelists, made it very clear--they wanted Perrault in, and Hendricks out and we got our way.

All corporations pay "thousands" of dollars to survey companies to know what their customer base is thinking--the Jet's have this survey base for free. They are for sure going to read it.

Let me be clear --these forums "will not"-- dictate Jet's policy -- but they will strongly influence it--so we must be vigilant and persistent in our posts.

Think of it this way --in the business sense--"every home game"--is worth about $ 2 million bucks to the JETS-- do you not think they are going to read these forums ??- of course they are--I have--"no doubt"-- the recent Perrault debate is an example. ( Perrault / Hendricks)

JETS FANS-- Keep on posting--especially when you don't like something--it all has it's effect. Great Jet's win--thanks Jet's executive for listening to some of the very knowledgeable, astute posters on here --"great win.":)

FFS! Without a doubt the most ridiculous post I have ever read on HFB.

Also, a huge number of injuries and Trouba missed 1/4 of the season before signing.

I’d argue that injuries were not that much better this year. We got to a healthy start but Sheifele was out twice, Kulikov is still out (and probably won’t be 100% anytime soon), Lowry missed games etc.
