85-11-23 Probably not a coincidence that Lewis and Perreault looked really good after Thompson left. Lewis is a good addition, but Thompson not so much.

I think their first shift without Thompson had Scheifele out there and they actually looked like they could push for some significant offense. Obviously they're not going to play with Scheifele but maybe there's more to be had from Lewis and Perreault with someone a little quicker than Thompson.

Copp and Lowry been playing well together. But with Thompson out (speculating here) would like to see Copp at 3c and vesalainen in.

Ottawa still looked shell-shocked from last game. Jets finally looked more cohesive. Very good step. I missed the last few minutes of the game - my feed crashed.

Thought Helleboy was getting the shutout - maybe next time. The breakaway stop was impressive.

Heinola's a keeper - he shouldn't leave the lineup. So many smart passes, wasn't trying to force things.

Depends on if they put DeMelo with JoMo or not. Morrissey played extra conservatively on his offside tonight. Was effective but hes better on the left. I would put DeMelo with Morrisey and Heinola on the bottom. Pairing with Poolman.

Tough calls though As both Stanley and Heinola played well. But we need to get Beau his gp.for expansion draft.
it's a at-you-fast season. there will be injuries and COVID resulting in fluid line-ups.
we can assume Niku's over and out. BooBoo will get his games.

Quick thoughts...

81-55-26 Really strong game, even though the shot metrics didn't show it. They controlled the puck and were dangerous. They sometimes have fewer shot attempts, but that's because they rarely take a low percentage shot. Wheeler is looking better and better.

9-25-27 Can we talk about how great Copp is? He's just dominant in so many ways as a okay driver, and his offensive game continues to improve. Ehlers had another marvelous game, toying with the Sens D. Stastny had an understated but brilliant game. He's so smart and he was dangerous.

12-17-22 Lowry was a beast again. He's looking like his peak from a few seasons ago. Harkins had his first strong game. Looked fast and was dangerous. Appleton with a quietly effective game. He's effective on the forecheck.

85-11-23 Probably not a coincidence that Lewis and Perreault looked really good after Thompson left. Lewis is a good addition, but Thompson not so much.

44-14 Great debut for Heinola. Genius with the puck. Every pass is precise. Morrissey was okay, though still not at peak level.

24-4 Turning into a really good pair. Forbort had another outstanding game. Looks like a sneaky good acquisition. Pionk has been a really good compliment.

64-88 A couple of shaky shifts for Stanley at the start, but he was fine later. He needs more experience, but he's looking okay as a 6-7 D. Beaulieu was fine, without any brain cramps.

Hellebuyck was rock solid.

Overall, a very encouraging game. With DeMelo and Heinola and Poolman, the D could be okay. Laine would add to a very talented forward group.

Great review as usual.

I was going to make a post specifically about Copp with Ehlers Stats. Andrew is just an overall smart player in all facets of the game and he is really fast which helps him play with Nikky. I like seeing him get more time on a scoring line because I think he can do it all pretty well. That line was a pleasure to watch with Nik as the game breaker joined by two really smart sound line mates.

Kyle Connor may be our best player so far this season. Great to see him back on the forecheck and his speed all over the ice is impressive. He is starting to take over that line IMO.

I don’t want to read too much into the game because this was Ottawa’s first real sinker this season.

With that out of the way it is nice to see Stanley look really comfortable on the bottom pair. He deserves to be in the mix and right now he looks stable and that is a good starting point.

Heinola had a good first game and took some pressure off Josh. He looks ready to be in the mix although I want to see more games.

Lastly, as you mentioned Forbot is a very good fit with Pionk. They did the heavy lifting tonight and did it well.

Those are three nice D pieces that provide much more promising depth. Now we don’t need to rush Samberg so we can let him play heavy minutes in the AHL and bring him up when he is ready and the team needs him.

hmmmm could this D core start to come together one season early? What we lack in top end D talent we might offset with quality depth?

One game at a time but tonight was a good effort.

Somewhere nice
Jets have very good to excellent pieces on the team in all key positions. I put Heinola, Perfetti and probably Samberg in that.
Few are elite level. 25% are in top 50.

Hopefully they stay in tack.
The support players , GM and Coach needs to find the best fit

IMO
Forbort and Lewis, Stastny
Stanley
Are good fit

Not so good
Thompson

And probably Perrault already.

Really don't get why Thompson is even in the lineup, any Moose forward over him please.

Some tough decisions on D as Heinola, Stanley and Poolman (as well as Samberg) all need to play!

I'm not sold on Fortbort as most here, guy is really slow and will get eaten up by faster teams!

Copp played great. We're all used to seeing Ehlers fly around the ice and then not have any high percentage chance develop from it, but I noticed Copp made a lot of subtle plays tonight to give him more room. Copp's showing some quick passing and more offensive creative than I've noticed from him in the past.

I don't have a lot to say about this game. Enjoyed the company, I'm 3-0 watching games with my pops. I also enjoyed the result. Lots of players stepped up their game.
Heinola looked pretty smooth. Be interested to see who comes out of the lineup for the home stand. Heinola or Stanley?

Though we didn't see Harkins at centre, that's my hope for next game, if Laine comes back. Be interesting to see what impact his speed could have in the middle of the ice.

PK was solid. I thought Beaulieu had a much stronger game, maybe feeling a little pressure now. Stanley looked big on the PK, in his stint. Not sure what isn't clicking with the PP, but hopefully the kinks get worked out.

Keep earning points and Jets will keep climbing the standings.
