What I didn't like:

What I liked:
- Harkins with Lowry, Appleton. In the past Lowry has suffered when he didn't have Copp on his LW. None of that tonight with Harkins there.
- Copp with Stastny & Ehlers. :thumbu: Who says Copp can't play in the top 6?
- Connor, also the other Connor.
- Ehlers
- Ville the kid
- Forbort
- Lowry and Appleton

Honourable mention: Stanley. He keeps getting better playing a simple, safe game. Keep it up and I might have to eat some crow. I hope he doesn't start feeling his oats and deviate from that. He is still very slow, maybe not quite as slow as I thought after that first game. I think some of it might have been first game hesitation. But he needs to avoid foot races.

Jets have very good to excellent pieces on the team in all key positions. I put Heinola, Perfetti and probably Samberg in that.
Few are elite level. 25% are in top 50.

Hopefully they stay in tack.
The support players , GM and Coach needs to find the best fit

IMO
Forbort and Lewis, Stastny
Stanley
Are good fit

Not so good
Thompson

And probably Perrault already.

I like the optimism here but these players have 9 total NHL games experience and they're all from the same guy. Let's pump the brakes a bit here.

Beauty game by everyone. Only thing missing was one of the boys treating Tkachuk's face like a red-headed step child. Hopefully that happens next game. Punk.

They can't. Laine is injured and Nik "Goon" Ehlers promised to his mom not to fight anymore...

Really don't get why Thompson is even in the lineup, any Moose forward over him please.

Some tough decisions on D as Heinola, Stanley and Poolman (as well as Samberg) all need to play!

I'm not sold on Fortbort as most here, guy is really slow and will get eaten up by faster teams!
Thompson is on the 4th line because he owns the team. Funny how all our 1st rd might work out and ves is the bust now not Stanley.

Beaulieu caught him with a good one. If you watch the replay he's cut on the bridge of his nose. Linesman was grabbing Nate, which allowed Tkachuk to be spared. And get a cheap one in.
I kind of like this new hockey without stupid fights, but I also like that we aren't intimidated early on. Credit Wheeler for stepping in to tie up Gudbranson, who wanted Stanley. Gudbranson can chuck them. Good captain move.

Seeing Stanley grabbing two Sens at the same time in that scrum brought a bit of a tear to my eye.

He'll never be buff, but dammit... in that moment, he embodied him just a little bit.

Would you say that Buff entered Stanley’s body briefly?

That was very a informative post, but this is the Jets board and a thread to discuss a game between the Jets and Senators. If you would like to discuss how great Armia played today im sure the Habs fans would love to hear from you on their board.

Stanley could turn out to be a decent NHL player but I don't think these three games have convinced me thus far his ceiling is any more than a 6-7, unfortunately. All the flaws I've seen in him at the AHL level are still there: any extended defensive zone shifts, his go-to is basically just to slap it along the boards and hope it gets out; his acceleration / first two-or-three strides is just garbage; his only contributions to offence is mostly just wristers from the point if it gets to him but he otherwise generates nothing; and a few more things. He's gonna be one of those players if you bring up a HockeyViz isolation chart where his even-strength defence will be -2% and you'll be like "oh, that's good" until you look up and realize his even-strength offence is -10%. Which means, he'll be loved by many coaching staffs, including the likes of the Jets who have reigned in the defensive jumps ever since Buff's departure (but no one could ever do it like him, I suppose).

Heinola on the other hand is *chef's kiss*. This guy makes breaking out look so easy. There are still some defensive things here and there that seem to be a European thing but I think you gotta roll with a full-season for him to help him learn it. I can't find any extended highlights of it but it was about 4 minutes into the second period just before the second goal. Jets player had the puck along the left-hand side of the boards and passed it into the middle, and Heinola was below the goal line and started making strides up the ice through the pass - a Sens player caused a turnover and Heinola was about a stride away from being able to make a defensive play, but Hellebuyck made a good save (of course). European/Finnish players are always moving up ice since they have more room to do so, but in the NHL it's a lot smaller and turnovers quickly go back the other way. (If you were to make the comparison to Niku - which he is also guilty of doing this - he would have been like three or four strides up the ice at the time of the turnover in comparison to Heinola's one.) But he's such a cerebral player that you have to just let him play and get used to that different style after being in the Liiga for so long.

Also, the fact that all of the forward lines looked good with Scheifele and Lowry double shifting with the fourth line after Thompson's injury is hilariously predictable. The guy sucks.

(Also get Pionk off of the penalty kill ASAP once DeMelo returns holy shit)

Forbort is a little slow. Faster than Stanley. But he has played well so far on the 2nd pair. I think that is about his limit. Like Stanley, he needs to avoid foot race situations.

Good post but I’d love if Stanley is a 6/7/after so many ppl made him out to be just an ahler. He’s also a underdog like harkins and Niku if he had any nhl potential. We already know Heinola is good.

Isn’t he also on a league minimum contract and cost us nothing so if 2nd pair is his max and he does it well all the power to him.

1x1 contract. But this isn't about cost benefit. It is about how good our D corps is or isn't. It is true he lacks speed, but he has played well in spite of that. We need to see more of him against better teams. If he can hold his own, he is a steal for 1 mil.

I'm convinced Avgard is someone's secret identity on here, for pure foolishness. He's like our Borat, but I doubt he's ever gone to scout the Kazakh women's team looking for a wife to push the plow, like another poster here.

Why the hate for Morrissey? Samberg? Forbert? What has Forbert done wrong? What is wrong with Stanley so far?

?? Nothing wrong with those guys - Morrissey right now is like a solid #2, Samberg has played 0 career games (maybe he'll be good), Forbort is playing like a great #5, Stanley as well has been projected as more of a middle/bottom pairing guy, if he even sticks in the league
We have 'lots' of LHD but they aren't currently game-breakers
Compare that to a team like Carolina with Slavin/Skjei/Gardiner/Fleury all LD

Nice win but pump the breaks as it is the Sens although good effort all around, they looked engaged and still hard to believe a Jet goalie won the Vezina. He came up big when they slacked off to start the third.

good cautionary tale post. Forbot in a 28 year old who was available on the cheap for a reason. Up until this point I have been convincing myself it’s because of his back injury and Covid but you may be correct Sip.

He did play allot with Doughty on the top pair so it’s not like this is his first rodeo facing tough minutes against the best.

For now I am not willing to dip much below the level that he is an affordable 1 year upgrade over last years emergency rentals.
