Honourable mention: Stanley. He keeps getting better playing a simple, safe game. Keep it up and I might have to eat some crow. I hope he doesn't start feeling his oats and deviate from that. He is still very slow, maybe not quite as slow as I thought after that first game. I think some of it might have been first game hesitation. But he needs to avoid foot races.
weird. i actually thought he wasn't slow at all. i think he'll always look slow due to his size.
think the slowness is still in the thought process. getting to the right spot. maybe a guy skating around him on a rush due to poor positioning.

We absolutely dominated.

We play like that most nights and we're comfortably one of the best teams in the division
I swear Ottawa didn't touch the puck in the second period, the Jets were unreal with puck movement and cutting off passes . Very fun game to watch.

Quick thoughts...
9-25-27 Can we talk about how great Copp is? He's just dominant in so many ways as a okay driver, and his offensive game continues to improve. Ehlers had another marvelous game, toying with the Sens D. Stastny had an understated but brilliant game. He's so smart and he was dangerous.

Copp played great. We're all used to seeing Ehlers fly around the ice and then not have any high percentage chance develop from it, but I noticed Copp made a lot of subtle plays tonight to give him more room. Copp's showing some quick passing and more offensive creative than I've noticed from him in the past.

Credit Wheeler for stepping in to tie up Gudbranson, who wanted Stanley. Gudbranson can chuck them. Good captain move.

Noted and reposted for emphasis. Copp seems to still be evolving - at least if last night's game is indicative. Ehlers and Copp is a nice balance.

And yeah Gudbranson really wanted to fight. Kap was working hard to tie him up. Gudbranson has a mean streak.

I prefer the 5 page "that was awesome" PGTs after we win to the 16 page "fire everybody, trade everybody, we suck" PGTs after we lose

I like all the smart posters here. When we play awesome, you'll see a lot of that was awesome. When we play like suck, you'll here we suck. I wake up believing that last night's game was a pretty even mix of us upping our game and Ottawa delivering suckage.

Great place to be, 4 games in. Loving the season so far!

Solid effort. This is kinda what I expect to see every night from this group. Lots of guys played well, but especially relieved to see 26, 44, 88, 64 looking good.

Forbort is a little slow. Faster than Stanley. But he has played well so far on the 2nd pair. I think that is about his limit. Like Stanley, he needs to avoid foot race situations.

I agree -
We don't need all your Dmen to be speedy - or even average speed if they can bring other things which Forbort does.
We need this type of player in our D and I can see him playing as high as the 4 spot -
He takes care of business in his own end - he always seems to have his man and manages net front traffic better than anyone on our current D.
He also doesn't make many mistakes - and that's a huge plus when you are trying to defend.

We have "faster / quicker" Dmen - in fact we have more than our fair share - what we don't have are defensive Dmen that work well without the puck, work well in traffic and can get it done in the tough areas of the Dzone (net front, corners, behind the net and the walls). Most of our guys are not effective in these areas - that's part of the reason we miss Buff, Chiapet.

His offense is limited - so what. We don't need our Dmen to be scoring machines - we have that up front. Our obvious problems are in our end and last night was a good example of how a Dman like this, make it so much easier for our offense to concentrate on offense. I'd take one or two more like this over Pionk type players.

so, let's talk about the PP.

it looked pretty good. very solid zone control and puck movement.
just didn't get the results
The PP looked good, just missed a couple of chances like Wheeler's and Stastny's If they play like that more often than not i think our PP will be quite good. Laine on it wouldn't hurt either.

Vastly improved effort tonight!!! The first was a pleasant surprise and the Jets carried their fair share of the play for once. The 2nd period was an eye opener on how good this team can be when they are engaged, support the puck, play with quickness and play defense as a 5 man unit. It was a thing of beauty, I almost shed a tear.

The 3rd was a bit of a hodge podge, some good, some bad. You could tell they took their foot off the gas. Still not the worst period they have played this season but just the worst period last night. Overall, a very enjoyable game that brought renewed optimism to this fan!

Winnipeg MB.
I think with Laine out it has shown the value of having Connor run the other half wall and Wheeler down low. Having threats on both sides just opens things up way more, even if the PP hasn't scored as much as I would like they've been generating chances at a high rate.

Also, Murat posted our PK statistics lol they look just like you'd expect. 31/31 in basically every predictive xGA.

?? Nothing wrong with those guys - Morrissey right now is like a solid #2, Samberg has played 0 career games (maybe he'll be good), Forbort is playing like a great #5, Stanley as well has been projected as more of a middle/bottom pairing guy, if he even sticks in the league
We have 'lots' of LHD but they aren't currently game-breakers
Compare that to a team like Carolina with Slavin/Skjei/Gardiner/Fleury all LD
Forbort is playing like the solid #4 that he is. You have to be an upper tier team to not have a guy like Forbort as your 4th.

The curious thing is that Maurice keeps throwing Pionk out there on the PK, and isn't Pionk still the absolute worst PKer in the league statistically?

It's so refreshing to see the PP changed up where Wheeler isn't glued to the half wall for the entire PP looking for either Scheifele in the slot or Laine in his usual spot. But it's also disheartening to see that our PP isn't getting the results right now.
