Also Ryan Olsen (Frankfurt) and JC Lipon (Straubing)...Out of all the higher rated Jets picks we had since drafting Mark Scheifele, there was not one comparable to how obvious it was that KV wasn't going to cut it. The closest I can think of was Lukas Sutter (#39th overall) - he wasn't even good enough to come close to a Jets uniform. I'd kind of put him in a different category.
I haven't thought of his name for years so I looked him up. Did you know he works as a NHL scout since 2019? Two years for the Blue Jackets and right now he works for the Sabres.
*edit*
So I was browsing Elite Prospects some more and stumbled upon the DEL scoring table. And I wondered: Did you guys know how many former Jets/Atlanta prospects are playing in Germany right now? It's honestly crazy
Former Winnipeg/Atlanta draft picks:
Red Bull Munich - Zach Redmond 22 GP 2 G 13 A 15 P
Eisbären Berlin - Julian Melchiori 20 GP 3 G 4 A 7 P
Fischtown Pinguins - Skyler McKenzie 21 GP 4 G 6 A 10 P
Grizzlys Wolfsburg - Spencer Machacek "C" 21 GP 9 G 6 A 15 P
Straubing Tigers - JC Lipon 20 GP 8 G 6 A 14 P
When is Nic Petan signing in the DEL? How long until Paul Postma comes over from Austria?
Interesting other players:
Kölner Haie - Landon Ferraro (son of Ray) 8 GP 0 G 2 A 2 P
Grizzlys Wolfsburg - Nolan Zajac (Travis' younger brother) GP 14 3 G 7 A 19 P
Adler Mannheim - Nigel Dawes 21 GP 7 G 5 A 12 P
Yes, Nigel Dawes, 37 years old, finally seems to be slowing down significantly.
I rememeber the days on this board when we thought Machacek was the solution to our forward woes after he had a few good games as a callup.Out of all the higher rated Jets picks we had since drafting Mark Scheifele, there was not one comparable to how obvious it was that KV wasn't going to cut it. Another problem with KVes is that he didn’t process the game fast enough offensively at the NHL level. Maybe he had lost confidence by that point but he never flashed anything the times I watched him. He had a big shot but the dude could never find a way to generate shots. I tend to overvalue our prospects and he was one of the few exceptions where I watched him and thought…….this isn’t going to happen.
That sucks, I was really excited to watch him play. Seemed like he was really progressing well.D Elias Salmonsson is out aprox. 6 weeks, likely to miss WJC :/
On the bright side, he's young enough to qualify for the 2024 WJC and he'll be all the more motivated to win gold in Gothenburg. That sucks, I was really excited to watch him play. Seemed like he was really progressing well.

They have ties (the same score or ranking as another competitor or team, not a piece of string, cord, or the like used for fastening or tying something or a strip of material worn around the collar and tied in a knot at the front with the ends hanging down, typically forming part of a man's business or formal outfit; a necktie)? In a battle of top Jets' prospects, McGroarty had 2 assists in a 4-4 tie while Austin Wong recorded 0 points.
It's conference specific. Some decide they want shootouts and some don't, but for non-conference games there are no shootouts. They have ties (the same score or ranking as another competitor or team, not a piece of string, cord, or the like used for fastening or tying something or a strip of material worn around the collar and tied in a knot at the front with the ends hanging down, typically forming part of a man's business or formal outfit; a necktie)?
Scored the OT winner as well.Rashevsky with a power play goal so far. Nice to see, he's slowed up without O'Dell.
I think we have to be ready for that possibility. I would rather we don't draft anymore Russians for the time being. As a draft and develop team, the current risk is too high.Rashevsky and Chibrikov
Who are 2 players who will never play for this team ? Just don't see it. The Russian factor.
McGroarty, a player that will never play for the Jets. Gonna wait for UFA. NCAA factor.Rashevsky and Chibrikov

On one hand I get it. But on the other hand you have to draft the best player available. If they never come over, that's their prerogative. They're still very skilled players that fell in the draft. The exact type of player you take a flyer on.
Sounds like Lucius is out for several weeks, likely to miss the world juniors unless they keep a spot open. That's assuming he wants to go.
Might be thin on Jets prospects at the WJs at this rate with both Lucius and Salomonsson getting injured.
Sucks for him, I feel for the kid as he just can't stay healthy. Any insight on if Lambert is healthy? He's missed a couple of games as well.
Unfortunately I don't think its simply a matter of the player stating a preference as to where they would like to play. The motherland may be telling the player what is best.I'm not sure why Chibrikov wouldn't jump to come over first chance he gets, he seems buried in his team's system. My guess is the Jets will likely have to tell Rash he has the inside track for a spot to get him over given his play in the KHL.
Plenty more examples of NCAA players not signing with their teams than there are of Russian players not being allowed to/not wanting to come over.Unfortunately I don't think its simply a matter of the player stating a preference as to where they would like to play. I'm sure, historically, that is true.Plenty more examples of NCAA players not signing with their teams than there are of Russian players not being allowed to/not wanting to come over.
