I think we all have been very impressed with this kid. IMO at least, it has been a long while since we have had this quality of D prospect. Moose next year makes sense, but I have a feeling he will push his way into the NHL sooner rather than later.
Much sooner. For the simple fact that he is a right hand shot.

If he doesn't see a clear opening to the Jets he's likely to go back to the SHL. More money and closer to home.

Salomonsson was very young for his draft class, and was probably over-scrutinized because he was a top-ranked prospect going into his draft year. He clearly has some top-end tools with his skating and shot, and he has good size. What was uncertain was whether he'd figure out how to use his skating and size effectively at the pro level. His development in that regard has been remarkable. He uses his size and skating to play a very aggressive and effective defensive game, and this season he's shown the confidence to jump up into the offense. He really has an NHL style, too. He moves the puck crisply and quickly when he's not carrying it, and he presses to close gaps in every zone, confident in his skating.

I don’t follow the college game, so does anyone know when Rutgers season might be up? Any chance he signs after and Jets give him a few games?

Michigan's season could be done next weekend (March 10) if they lose in the first round of the Big10 playoffs. If they qualify for the Frozen Four bracket, they'd play at least until March 31. The latest their season could go is the national championship game on April 13.

The Big 10 playoffs start next weekend and Michigan plays Notre Dame in the quarter finals. So any time after that if they get knocked out, up and to including the Frozen 4 if they make it that far, which is played April 11-13.

I revisited Salomonsson’s black book scouting reports from his draft in 2022. When reading the scouts review him what, seemed to hold him back the most was the spread between his best and worst days back then. Worth noting that Mark Edwards said his best viewings were really impressive and their Scout from Stockholm Johan really liked him and had him higher than the rest of the Black Book scouts. Black Book ranked him at #40 for his draft. They all agreed on the tools especially the skating (best in the draft) but they had some concern about how he processed the game.

After watching his most recent shift by shift I didn’t notice any issues with how he was processing the game but sometimes that takes more viewings and live help me way more with D men.

Having watched almost all of his games this season, I think the consistency is there. Salle is very steady and reliable. On his best days he's quite clearly the best D-man on the team. Even on his less impressive days he's up there.

His physicality is noticeable - the SHL isn't much of a hitting league in general, but Salomonsson's strong in front of the net and by the boards. In today's game he simply pushed over someone who was annoying him at the blue line. The suspensions clearly aren't making him shy away from physical play. This, if anyplace, is where you can raise some questions about his decision making.

His offense has noticeably improved since the start of the season. He's still not scoring a lot but he's very eager to join the rush. He's increasingly willing to challenge the opposing D-man, though his puck handling isn't swift enough to always come out as the winner. The passing / puck moving someone mentioned could have netted him an assist today if his teammates hadn't missed at the last moment. He did fumble some of his passes, but there were also multiple instances where his initial breakout pass from the zone was clean and his teammate then turned the puck over. I also don't see any major issues with the way he processes the game here.

I do wish Skellefteå gave him some powerplay opportunities, but given how incredibly good their PP is in its current configuration, it's understandable they're not going to start mixing things up - especially now that the playoffs are approaching.

Seems to be back on track after an uneven first half of the season.

Started the season great for something like 3-4 games. Then, IIRC, he was hurt but continued playing - very badly. Has rebounded since getting healthy.

McGroarty with 1G and 2 primary assists in a 6-5 overtime win. Made a sweet backdoor pass to Duke in the final second that should have been a tap but Duke couldn't handle it. There's an off chance he got another assist on the overtime winner but I'm not sure.

2 assists for Julien.

1 assist for Barlow.

1 assist so far for Levis.

The Hockey News Future Watch 2024 edition had the Jets’ top 10 prospects as follows:
1 - McG
2 - Barlow
3 - Chibs
4 - Lambert
5 - Heinola
6 - Lucius
7 - Elias
8 - Zhilkin
9 - Rashevsky
10 - Lundmark
I appreciate the Chibrikov love. Would have Barlow, Lucius a bit lower, Salomonsson a bit higher.

Found Wheelers' top 75 prospects interesting for the Jets. Lucius came in at 68 despite playing significantly shortened seasons since (and including) his draft year and Chibrikov didn't even get an honorable mention, despite looking better than Lucius on the same team when Lucius was healthy.
