I'd be happy with Heinola-Salomonsson third pairing next year. 88 in the PB incase one struggles for an extended period.
I think Salmon would need a year to acclimate to the NA game. We definitely don’t want to rush him and would probably be prudent to let him marinade a bit.

Can't say I would mind finding a first pairing RHD in the second round after we've had so little success in that round.

I tend to think he has been a little bit more of a supporting player than the dominant force in international play, but it seems like he plays a different role with Skellefteå.

Having all of McGroarty, Salomonsson, Lambert, Chibrikov, Milic, and Lucius down there next year excites me.

I haven't seen all of McGroarty's games but whenever I do see him he is rarerly dominating out there, good, great even but not ragdolling guys. Maybe I am getting extremely unlucky in the games I am watching.

Absolute beauty onetimer on the PP from Rutger. 2 goals on the night so far. Notre Dame up 4-2 with the 2nd almost over and looking like Michigan's season is over but they take a couple of bad penalties and now Michigan up 5-4.

The Hockey News Future Watch 2024 edition had the Jets’ top 10 prospects as follows:
1 - McG
2 - Barlow
3 - Chibs
4 - Lambert
5 - Heinola
6 - Lucius
7 - Elias
8 - Zhilkin
9 - Rashevsky
10 - Lundmark
To follow up on this, here’s their summary (paraphrased, my own word with some quotes) on each player:

1. Rutger McGroarty: McGroarty’s stellar performance on the gold medal-winning American World Junior team showcased both his leadership capabilities and the complete package that Winnipeg will get with him. While he’s more of a playmaker than a shooter, his goal-scoring was on full display at the juniors, and best of all, his play this season has done plenty to assuage any minor concerns critics had of his skating.

2. Colby Barlow: Barlow’s goal-scoring is what impresses most. His ability to settle a pass, the quickness and zip of his release, and his accuracy are all elite, but the Jets are almost as excited about his character. While Barlow needs to improve his skating, he’s a high-character, hardworking player who isn’t afraid to go to the dirty areas to produce.

3. Nikita Chibrikov: Not much was known about Chibrikov prior to this year, as Covid and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has limited North American viewings of the crafty Russian forward, but his rookie season in the AHL has been a nice surprise. Staying in one place, rather than bouncing back and forth between Russia’s pro and junior leagues, has certainly helped. Chibrikov’s size could hold him back, but he’s actually pretty physical and very smart in the offensive zone.

4. Brad Lambert: Spending last year in the WHL was a fantastic move for Lambert. He torched the league enroute to a league title, and after a solid season thus far in Manitoba, questions about his consistency and IQ have fallen to the wayside. His elite speed and keen playmaking skills put him on the call-up shortlist.

5. Ville Heinola: Heinola looked poised to make the Jets this year after a solid camp but then an untimely injury cost him half the season. He’s back on the Moose, and back dominating, again. He’s a smart defenceman who makes few mistakes, and he’s put in the work to improve his strength and defensive game. There just may not be an opportunity in Winnipeg to cement himself as a full-time NHLer on a crowded Jets blue line.

6. Chaz Lucius: Injuries have caused him to fall down our list. Hasn’t made it through a full season yet.

7. Elias Salomonsson: High-end skating and smarts.

8. Danil Zhilkin: Had a poor season as a rookie in the AHL. Still some upside there.

9. Dmitri Rashevsky: Goalscorer who likes to get his nose dirty and create chances. KHL vet that may never come to North America.

10. Simon Lundmark: He’s underrated. Smart and extremely adept defensively, coaches love him.

Overall, they gave our prospect pool a B- grade, and ranked us 16th, one up from last year’s 17th ranking). Top-ranked team was Anaheim, lowest ranked team was Edmonton. Our division was ranked: Arizona (2nd), St. Louis (4th), Chicago (7th, Bedard doesn’t count by the way), Nashville (9th), Minnesota (11th), Dallas (12th), Winnipeg (16th), Colorado (28th). The Central is a bloodbath.

McGroarty ranked 35 overall; Barlow, 41; Chibrikov, 63; and Lambert, 68. Overall a solid ranking.

For those wondering, the top five in order from 1 to 5 were Matvei Michkov, Cutter Gauthier, Will Smith, Simon Edvinsson, and Brandt Clarke, and Yaroslav Askarov was the highest-ranked goalie at #8.

Anyone else not as high on Barlow as the consensus? He seems fairly limited in terms of range of tools and upside. Seems to play hard, great goal scoring tools and has good character clearly since he's been captain from a young age but he's even more of a complimentary offensive guy at the junior level as of right now. He doesn't drive play from what I've seen and can struggle with creating time and space for his teammates. Feet seem on the heavier side too in terms of agility

Personally I think Mcg, Lambert and Salo ( and even Chib to an extent) all have higher upside. Goes without saying that Barlows floor is high but yeah Id be surprised if he amounts to a true top 6 guy

Like many prospect pundits, they have no clue about Salomonsson's performance and potential. Probably just stats-watching along with a quick look at some previous scouting summaries.

I have Salomonsson at #2 on my list at this point.

My current top 8 that nobody asked for.

1 LW-Rutger McGroarty
2. RD-Elias Salomonsson
3. C/RW-Brad Lambert
4. LD-Ville Heinola
5. LW-Colby Barlow
6. LW-Nikita Chibrikov
7. C/RW-Chaz Lucius
8. G-Domenic DiVincentiis

I like Barlow. I admit I wouldn't want his play style for all my forward prospects. I know the assist totals look like a guy who has low hockey IQ but when I watch him I honestly don't feel that way. Just my opinion though.

I think he's pretty close to a guaranteed 20 goal man in the NHL, even if he ends up sucking at all other facets of the game at the NHL level.

His shot and one timer is insane, best we've had in our system since Laine imo
