I knew a guy who had ankle/foot issues like that and it didn't get better until he had surgery. Its strange though they always let you wait until its the last thing you try. It takes a bit to recover from as well
I wonder if that's an issue of where the injury never really heals until the surgery is done, or if they actually build it back better/stronger than it ever was.

I feel for Chaz, but this is now 4 straight years of less then 25 games a season. He's approaching write-off territory.

Not counting international competition he has been averaging 17 games a season. In total including his draft year he has played 71 games for his primary teams (College, USHL, Moose, and Portland). That is the cumulative equivalent of one full AHL season.

Chaz turns 21 this May but at this point, with every season getting cut short due to injury, it doesn’t seem like he has the durability/body type, to play professional hockey. This is before factoring in how much development time he has lost during a critical stage for any prospect.

Seems like a high character kid, I really feel sorry for him.

Michigan play with any structure? I recall it was anything goes there.
It's notable that McGroarty has produced a ton wherever he's played, including the US national training program and at the main international tournaments.

He has very good offensive instincts and skills with a great shot. The only real concern has been skating / quickness. Lots of NHLers have adapted with fast processing and good skill, like Tavares, Landeskog, Robertson, Stone.

I'd bet on McGroarty making the transition and being a very good NHLer.

In regards to McGroarty, could any of the scouting types on the Board comment on whether he can give a similar impact to the Jets as Knies gave the Leafs as early as this year? I am not suggesting he start the playoffs this year, it is more of a hypothetical question.

My sense is that he has a much higher ceiling than Knies but am wondering if he would be comparable to Knies right now in the NHL.

Knies is a nice player but I am not sure he will be more then a 2nd/3rd line player in the league. McGroarty has a good chance at becoming a 1st line captain. He is scoring at a much higher rate then Knies did his final year and if hadn't got that injury he would easily be leading his team.

One lead his team to World Junior gold with a great performance and one is having a decent 1st year(but I bet leaf fans were hoping for more).

I expect Rutger to come in next year and get a long long look next year. The guy is a gamer and is something we really need in our top 6.

The worst thing about Loosh's current injury is Chevy won't include him in any deals now...

Damn, tough news. I like Lucius, but the kid is having some tough luck in the injury department.
Sadly he likely never makes the show. Simply too fragile.

I had hoped Chevy was able to trade him before the next injury but too late now. My guess is he ends up not being qualified when is ELC expires.

People are not giving McGroarty enough credit with comparisons like that. He works hard and people see him as a leader so I see why people naturally want to compare him to Richards or Landeskog but his scoring ability is much better than either of those players.

He is scoring at a rate that is comparable to Kyle Connor in his year at Michigan. He is scoring at 1.82 ppg, while Connor was 1.87 ppg.

Rutger McGroarty has truly elite scoring ability on top of his other intangible abilities.
Not even close. Connor did this in his draft +1 season. McGroarty did this in his draft +2 season. In his draft +1 season McGroarty barely averaged a point per game. That's a significant difference.

Landeskog was in the NHL in his draft +1 season making an immediate impact. I'm not sure there is any valid comparison when it comes to goal scoring. McGroarty won't even be in the NHL until his draft +3 season...if he's lucky.

Absolutely cursed

Sadly it not's surprising. He has always been an injury prone player going back to the year before we drafted him.

The Jets even qualified Vesalainen who seems to have no future with the Jets and went overseas. No shot in hell they don't qualify him
Vesalainen also played more games for the Moose (plus 70 NHL games) than Lucius has played in the past 5 season all leagues combined.

I dont think it is absurd to consider the team wishes him all the best and move on when his contract is up.

Connor is more skilled offensively, and has great wheels. McGroarty plays the type of game where he needs to adapt a bit to adjust to the increased speed at each level. His trajectory might follow more along the lines of Jason Robertson or Mark Stone. I think he might be ready next season, or maybe after one season in the AHL. But I think he has good top-6 potential, and has the potential to produce plenty of offense at the NHL level.

Unless they need the roster spot(which could easily be found elsewhere), what benefit would there be in not qualifying him?

I mean Landeskogg stepped in as a top 6 player as an 18 year old and has been a fixture on the top line of one of the best top lines in the league the last number of years. Mike Richard's was a gritty top line C that captained his team to a cup finals appearance and then won a couple as a 2C on LA.

I like McGroarty but you aren't giving the other two their due as top line players who have won cups in the NHL. I'd be thrilled if he came close to making impact they did.

Actually, it is absurd.
As opposed to pompous?

Maybe the team / player will luck out and he gets and stays healthy. Chances are not good Lucius has averaged about 20 games played a season over the past 5 years. Brutal.

At what point does the team cut their losses?

We disagree obviously.
