That’s an improvement for sure..
He's been better since returning from injury, had a real rough stretch beforehand. First 6 games he was .900+ in every game, then next 10 he was sub .900 except for one game where he went .906. Then he took some time off and since returning he's been above .900 in 4 of his 6 games. Still not putting up the gaudy numbers that he was last season or earlier this year, but he's been better.

Yeah, looks like he was probably playing through something that impacted his play. Glad he's trending back up now.

Since we have 3 prospects in the OHL I decided it was worth it to subscribe to get OHL games. It is just one game but man this style of hockey is way more fun than the NCAA or AHL. So I look forward to watching Barlow, DiVincentiis, and Julien. I will give my thoughts after each game unless it just becomes redundant and then I won't waste anyone's time.

Julien is relied on heavily by the Knights. He gets PP time and PK time. He had the beauty PP primary assist tonight. Side note kind of love how London uses Oliver Bonk on the PP. Really rare to see a defenseman work in the slot exclusively. He should have had a 5v5 goal but completely whiffed on an open net that was cleaned up by his teammate. He should have had a glorious 4 on 4 chance but fumbled the puck. I guess that would be my main nit pick tonight is that he could not handle pucks near the net when he was wide open. He does have 18 goals in 39 games so I hope it just wasn't his night.

I am not going to pretend I am some skating expert, but he moves pretty good for somebody 6'4". Falls in love with his reach a little too much but it is understandable when you realize he isn't the traditional weight of someone 6'4". If he grows into his body and keeps the speed I can see him driving play. He did good job at reading the game defensively from what I can tell. He uses that reach to get into passing lanes. Shooting and puck battling are incomplete grades for me after one game.

He is a pure center all the way. Probably doesn't have top 6-9 upside if his hands are what he showed tonight. But it is one game and he is a 5th round pick. He is already blowing out expectations of your average 5th round pick.

Hope I'm not overstepping since I'm only visiting to post stuff about one of your prospects on my WHL team, but CHL hockey is really fun because often it's quite chaotic. I know a lot of elitist NHL fans whinge about how the quality level is low because each team in the CHL is usually lucky to have 1 guy with a reasonable shot at an NHL future and maybe 3-6 more with AHL or Euro League import levels of talent, but honestly that slightly lower level of skill while still having guys that are committed and capable of playing something resembling offensive hockey is what makes it fun. Because teams can trade odd-man rushes or quick transition breaks since you can have an NHL 1st rounder abusing a pair of d-men who might top out playing Canadian university hockey while cashing in their CHL scholarship money. Comparatively I find that the AHL can be pretty boring because sometimes it can feel like 2 teams full of NHL bottom 6/3rd pairing players who are playing like they're trying to earn those roles as a call-up. So sure it's physical and grindy but you don't get the same sort of pants-on-fire swashbuckling punch-trading you can get in a good CHL game.

If people go into it with an attitude of "I only watch the best, that's the only thing worth my time" they're gonna be disappointed. But if they approach it thinking "I want to watch a reasonably competitive matchup with some excitement which may at times come from sloppy play." then it's a blast.

I kind of equate it to watching the CFL vs the NFL. I know so many Canadian "football" fans who worship the NFL and won't give the CFL the time of day because its best players would mostly not make a dent down south. But I know of multiple people from the Sharks board who came and visited Vancouver, like football in a general sense, and took in a CFL game where they ended up having a blast.

Again, sorry for the sorta off-topic tangent. I actually just popped back in to say that Levis finished tonight's game with just the 1 goal and an even rating. He played mostly as the 2nd line centre between Flames 2023 1st rounder Samuel Honzek and 16-year old Aaron Obobaifo (2025 NHL draft eligible). He also had some PP time though there wasn't much of that as the game only had 5 minor penalties the whole way (combined, not per team).

Giants are back at it tomorrow in Moose Jaw before taking the better part of the week off to complete the trip back to BC.

I grew up in Saskatchewan where Junior hockey is pretty big. I lived in PA and Saskatoon so I was treated so some really good junior hockey over the years until I moved to Alberta in my mid 20’s. Last season I got out to a Winnipeg Ice Brandon Wheat Kings game and I absolutely loved it. Great seats in a small building with solid game day experience and the hockey was really entertaining. I was stunned by how much faster and more skilled it is now that where the game use to be in the 80’s. That was a very different time and I loved it back then too but boy is it different now.

Jacob Julien gets his 50th point of the year in the first period of his 39th game. Impressive considering he only had 7 points in his first 17 games.

Jacob Julien is quickly becoming something very real for the Jets: Here's the latest scounting report on him:

Persistence defines Julien's game. He never gives up on a play. He always takes the extra stride to get next to the opponent and skates through their hands to win body positioning. Well-timed pokes and stick lifts eliminate threats in his own zone. While Julien's defence drives his game, there's offensive upside here. By entering every touch with a couple of scans, he quickly advances pucks to the next teammate. -EliteProspects 2023 NHL Draft Guide

around 1.45-1.5 PPG in their D+1 year is my totally unscientific threshold for "this prospect has a reasonable shot at being a top-6 player" and he is awfully close to that.

Yes - but he is only 5 months older than Colby Barlow.

If I have figured it out right, he would have needed to be only 4 days younger for this to have been his draft year, FWIW.

Yeah he is still very young. Only 2 weeks between him and Nate Danielson, and it's not like he's had a lot of OHL development time. Only played half a season last year there, wasn't even in the OHL in his draft year.

Has definitely jumped up the "intriguing" rankings.

And if my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike.

Yeah, and Mtl 2nd is almost a 1st. I get it. That's why the FWIW.

It is not his D+1 year. It is his D+2. But there is room for a little relative age context.
