Hmm there's actually a stronger case to say that we should be drafting more Americans...
Tkachuk over Laine
Bellows and debrincat instead of Stanley - Thompson was still on the board too
Greenway instead of Harkins
Larkin instead of ehlers
:DD

I've liked the American development system for years. Having a centralized development program and the NCAA is superior to me than a junior league that you're forced out of when you may not be totally ready and then struggling as a pro out of the gate in the minors.

I still don't see it with Wright. Just a jack if all trades type.

Scheifele scored about the same in his D+2 year as Wright did in his D year. Since being sent to the A by Seattle he has 4 G in 5 games.

He may not be performing up to the very high expectations people had for him a year or two ago, but he is still tracking to be a top 6 C in the NHL, probably 1C. Canada scored 2 G yesterday and Wright got 2 pts. What more do you want?

Germany plays a pretty impressive and entertaining brand of hockey considering how much of an underdog they should be.

Watching Lambert with his peers I don't see a lack of hockey sense or willingness to set up his teammates. He just looks like a greedy young player that always wants to have the puck. Which every young player has to get over at some point.

He just scored off a wicked shot just below the dot driving down the right wing.

It seems to me I recall seeing scouts say that they like those players who always want the puck. They do need to learn to tone that down a bit when they are playing with linemates who are on the same level as they are. But that desire to have the puck is a good thing in prospects.

The one major difference is Nik was insanely productive in his draft and his draft +1 season. He put up over 100 points both years and was almost 2 points per game in his draft +1 season. I agree he liked the puck on his stick but he was way more creative and multi dimensional.

Of course Nik was playing in the CHL those 2 years. :naughty:

He just doesn't have any stand out skills. Yeah I see him as a good 2C that to some extent is dependent on his wingers. Sure he had a couple of points but it was Bedard who drove that line. I would expect a player who was pegged to be a first overall to be able to drive play and his line. I have yet to see that from him. He strikes me as a Brian Little type C and there is nothing wrong with that but I don't see a star.

Yea for sure and I think it’s a good thing when you are an 18 year old skill guy. You get a chance to score at a higher rate and those reps can be part of the foundational building blocks.

The reason I like the option for Brad is unlike Nik he hasn’t done it yet. Unlike Nik he struggled in his draft year. It’s Not like we would be forcing him to go back and dominate yet again.

Either way I guess time will tell.

You may be right, but I will give him a couple of more years before reaching any conclusions. That jack of all trades (master of none) you are seeing could turn into the next Bergeron.

I would have preferred WHL after TC, but deferred to Jets judgement on that. Right now, it looks like they may have been mistaken. Its still not too late. But if he has a good enough WJC that may jump start his progress too, even though it is a relatively few games.

Slovakian player crosschecked an American in the chin with less than 4 seconds left in the game and then fell on him and pinned his head to the ice.

Got a 5 minute major and should probably get a game or more given when it happened.

Sore winners.

McGroarty just had a pretty nice pass from the top of the right circle to Lucius who was sitting near the goal line on the opposite side of the ice. Lucius didn't bury it but he did get a shot off point blank.

I'm starting to see why people like McGroarty, lots of hustle and some good poise and vision. Definitely a different type of skill player then what we have atm.

Lucious finds the soft ice well and get his shot off quickly but really doesn't do much else imo. He's an older player for this tournament and really doesn't move the needle enough imo.

Bedard's ridiculous and I'll keep posting about him in this thread because of the impossibly small chance that he's ever a Jet

Best junior player I've seen. I doubt he translates as well as McJesus but I think Bedard is more dominant against his peers at the same age.
