I kind of feared the loss already having seen the rather dry "Jets Oilers post game" thread name already before watching recorded game, and was excited for the apparent win or at least OT until the very last moments...

God I hope PLD holds Scheifele accountable, does he just outright not want to play defense?

PLD will do more than hold Sheifele "accountable" -- he will soon take his place, and that 2nd line with him and Ehlers, should be, or will be our 1st line. Maurice still doesn't see the extraordinary talent of Ehlers, as he should be used on the # 1 power play. There needs to be, and I hope there will be changes when PLD comes to town -- soon.

If he wasn't in good enough shape to play a back to back and not totally fall apart, he shouldn't have been on the ice at the end of the game.

That's ridiculous. Like it or not he's going to be relied on very heavily on the top pair this year. His performance for us to date has been very good, so you'd want him on the ice to protect a lead.

The high stick was unfortunate, but he was falling, it happens. There were also 5 guys on the ice at the end of the game so to put all the weight on him for that goal against is unfair.

Hockey is a game of mistakes and shit happens. We've already won a couple games we shouldn't have this year, so things tend to balance it.

I'd prefer to take the positive out of it - we're playing progressively better, Morrissey looks like he's starting to turn it around, and we have a big, exciting, young center coming.

Things are looking up in Jets land.

That is his job as a coach, but effective coaches hold top players accountable away from the media....this is the root of the culture issue with the Jets.

And how do you know how Maurice hasn't held Schiefele accountable?

Yes, Mo overplays Schiefele a bit but it's pretty tantalizing to put one of the top centers in the league out there.

I'm hoping that PLD is the piece we need to give Maurice two equally attractive scoring line options and he balances things out a bit.

Even if it’s warranted, and it may well be, Pomo will never demote Scheifele/Wheeler. I’ve never been particularly negative on the coach until recently, but I’m really beginning to question the entire Maurice-Scheifele-Wheeler marriage and how it could potentially become a major problem for this organization.

When Ehlers was asked in an interview I saw lately, and the question was, what do you remember playing against Dubois in Junior ??

Ehlers answer : -- the thing I remember most was his "speed" -- so if Ehlers thinks he's fast, we have a "really great center coming here."

I know this is a great trade for the Jets.

PLD -- is the kind of guy you'd want to matchup against McDavid's line, along with Ehlers imo.

Gutted. Thought we played well in the 1st and for the first 15 min of the 3rd. Ehlers our best forward tonight. Scheifele was never a top flight defender, but that was a poor outing. Same with Connor, weak board battles in the defensive zone, lost almost every 50/50 puck battle. If PLD is paired with Ehlers as most think, with those two being noticeably better defensively, I hope its that line that gets matched up with other teams best unit.

Oilers played the way I'd like to see us play. Pit bull defense. They were all over us in all zones. Aggressive man coverage or whatever we are calling it this year. You play that game ten times and our skill advantage probably takes six of them.

You can see the influence Tippet has had on the Oilers. Just a more structured, focused approach to their game. And very aggressive on the forecheck.

LMAO Murat tried to get Maurice to throw someone under the bus for the game tying goal and Maurice nope'd the hell out of that question so fast. People may not like it but answers like that are why Maurice is liked by players. Torterella would be putting one of DeMelo or Scheifele on full blast for that goal right now.

You better believe that if it were Ehlers and Heinola instead of Scheifele and DeMelo that Paul would have gone to town on them.

Wasn't a bad game, if we get that into OT it's whatever and happy with the point plus chance to win. Sucks to lose it with less than a second left.

CSW should never, ever, be linematched against McDavid again though. That line is horrid defensively and always has been. Good offensively, though.

I think we are being a bit hard on Scheifele, the guy is in the top 5 scoring in the entire NHL right now and he faces all the other team's best every game. Dubois should definitely make Scheifele's job a little easier once he gets in the lineup. We are 4-2 with 4 guys in the top 20 scoring and Stastny is getting going now too . We got a good team.
