Some interesting Chess today at the World Championship.

Carlsen (my favorite) down 5-4 in the series to Karjakin, looking to strike back in today's game. He seems to have a slight advantage entering the endgame, despite some blunders from both sides. Can he pull it out and tie up the series?

One night in Bangkok!!

In my day Russians were usually dominant?

So I'm in a college rec hockey league and there's one guy who thinks he's top dog because he played 1 game in the OHL and then gets kicked out when he hits people after the whistle (it's non-contact) and mouths off to the refs for getting a major.

Then there's another guy on that team with the classic flow and same ****** attitude who hits me after I score a goal, blatantly slew foots me in front of the net, and also repeatedly hits people in a non-contact league. Then he gets lippy when he gets kicked out of the game as well.

Luckily I'm on a team with guys (and gals) who are decent players and aren't *******s.

Not gonna lie, getting pretty excited for the Moana movie. By looks of it they've done a really good job of it and I grew up with stories about Maui slowing down the sun and fishing up the North Island. Cast chock full of kiwis too. Shame it's not out here until Boxing Day, pretty rude lol.

Not to mention the soundtrack is stacked.

Traditional Polynesian music? Check
Disney pop hits with local flavour? Check
A Bowie-esque super villain song sung by Jemaine Clement? Check
This absolutely CLASSIC comtemporary pacific jam?

Check.

So yeah, take your kids. This is our frickin movie!! :D

I love hockey and even with all it's fine elements, sadly, it is still and always has been a moron magnet. college rec is still pretty young.....the dream dies slower for some than others.

Yeah, I've had some rough experiences as well.

I'm in a little bit of a different perspective, because I stopped playing competitive at novice, and then decided to try some rec league, so there is a lot of dumb crap out there I just shake my head at.

Pretty sure it's like that in almost every sport. I played some rec league basketball in college and later in a local league and there are idiots there too.

Man I'm really nerding it up.

I've learned Linux and networking, set up a VPN, and learned a bit about linux scripts. Mixed and matched some stuff off the net. My text file (hosts) of blocked malicious sites (advertising, hijacking, malware, tracking, etc..) is just under 17 megabytes(edit: I just checked. 525,000 lines or so which means that many sites). I run an internal LAN DNS server that gets polled first, so if there's a hit the site gets denied. Every night at 4 in the morning the router downloads from 7 sites that make hosts files of known bad websites. It sorts, edits, and compiles them into one.

The only problem is there are sites out there that throw a monkey wrench into the plans. They can deny access if their ad doesn't work.

I am almost done Christmas shopping. Joys of just ordering online

You should be more like me and cut your "need to buy for" list down :sarcasm: I only buy gifts for my dad, if anyone  (I also have no siblings, SO and my cousins/extended family never really do gift exchanges). But well done on getting it done already!

If I ever have kids, I'm telling them our religion celebrates Christmas on Dec. 28.

Send them to grandma's for the holidays and tell them they'll get some presents there and the rest, "bigger ones", when the return back home.

I only bought for Holden lol. I'm an only child too. Parents just want English toffee from Purdys. And I won't be in Winnipeg for Christmas.

I don't want to make a big thing out of it, but this could be it for me guys. I never had the money for a trip like that and I'm not gonna have the money for some time in the future. I don't know, an online petition or something like that could do the trick if we work together?

*edit*

nevermind... looks like it's only for residents from Canada..

what the ****.... okay now this hurts... FML.

Man the downturn is really hurting the commercial construction sector in Edmonton. I'm getting tired of laying off people every week till it's going to be my turn.

The entrant must live near Winnipeg, but does that mean the person they nominate has to live in Canada too?

From the rules:

To nominate a candidate (a Winnipeg Jets fan living in a city in Canada or the continental United States of America)...

Maybe our long-suffering Thrasher fan down in Atlanta would like an all-expense paid visit to the Peg. ;)

The big problem I have with this contest is they aren't telling you which game they will select. They could end up picking a game where either party could have commitments they can't get out of.
