You couldn't move Enstrom if you tried because he's overpaid by about $2M!

Yeah, ok you could not move a top pairing defenseman since he is signed to a long term deal. Yup, that makes sense. Question would you rather Tobias Enstrom, Matt Carle, James Wisniewski, Dennis Wideman, Zach Bogosian, Dion Phaneuf at 5-6 million. Hint: Any answer but Enstrom is wrong.

and Dion is due for a hefty raise as well......Tobias's deal will hold decent value for his talent with the cap rising.

Great news great news great news. Ill cheer everyone up. New Jersey won so now we are 1 game behind 5th spot. A whole wack of teams are 2 games under .500 and we are 1 game under.

19 CAROLINA 34 14 13 7 35 .515
20 COLUMBUS 33 14 15 4 32 .485
21 WINNIPEG 34 14 15 5 33 .485
22 PHILADELPHIA 32 14 15 3 31 .484
23 NEW JERSEY 34 13 15 6 32 .471
24 OTTAWA 34 13 15 6 32 .471
25 NY RANGERS 33 15 17 1 31 .470
26 CALGARY 32 13 15 4 30 .469

We are right in there.. We really need to lose to columbus :handclap:

This cheered me up, you knew the first year in the west was going to be hard. Don't make any changes, just dump players and get draft picks and get a top 5 pick this year and if possibly next year(you also get a shot at Connor McDavid). Patience people patience.

Nothing has changed for me.

The only variable seems to be- which player is going to kill us tonight? Which line is going to fall asleep?

Even CBC's announcers see the pattern of inconsistency being fairly... consistent.

I still strongly believe our coaching system does not fit this team at all. From an offensive stand point, or a defensive stand point.

Even the mighty Lawless (who I have noticed goes out of his way to be extremely positive and full of praise) now says this team isn't going anywhere.

I have no doubt change is coming on some level. The only question is will it be a player? Players? A Coach? And when?

And finally... perhaps most sadly for me, the crowds at MTS. Especially with this home stretch losing-palooza. The crowd tries, and dies a horrible death. The second period in this game was impossible to get the crowd into, such horrible play.

We significantly outshot them and had by far the most sustained offensive zone pressure. For the first time, the Jets have really impressive offensive players beyond the first line. Had it not been for the 5-minute major, we would very likely have had one or two points out of the game. Prior to that we lost two games by the narrowest of margins to two of the elite teams in the league. It is meaningless. There is no crisis. Keep calm and carry on.

I'm inclined to agree, although maybe not to that extent.

This team is not nearly as bad as 90% of the people here would like you to believe. I was surprised to hear Wheeler's comments about the first period because aside from the occasional defensive mental breakdowns, I thought we controlled the puck well and for once had some legitimate stretches of creativity in the offensive zone.

That Peluso penalty was just unfortunate timing and happened to sewer what looked like a pretty promising afternoon for the team's growth, and obviously sent the fanbase into alot of the hysteria that we're seeing on these boards. People are instantly forgetting that our powerplay showed glimpses of competency and all four lines had sustained shifts in the offensive zone (particularly the 3rd and 4th).

The problem with this team is they can play 19 minutes and 50 seconds of good hockey but as soon as they stop focusing for those ten seconds they consistently get burned and the puck always ends up in the back of our net. It's the one step forward two steps back thing that always gets talked about in the context of the standings but it happens in the microcosm of the games as well. I've never seen a team that can look so promising and then just have everything fall apart because of stupid (and easily avoidable) breakdowns.

As soon as we can pinpoint how to stop those moments from happening (whether that's shipping out the constant offenders, firing the coach, putting pressure on Pavelec, etc.) I think people will see the growth on this team start to translate into points in the standings.

There is no crisis. Keep calm and carry on.

The stated goal for the team (TNSE) and the players was to make the playoffs this year. Maybe it was ambitious but I believe that it was a sincere belief before the season by the organization. A lot of the frustration Ladd & Wheeler displayed yesterday was likely the realization that the playoffs have slipped out of their grasp before Christmas. Almost all the so called experts picked the Jets either 6th or 7th in the central which is looking like they had us pegged pretty good.

Agree.

I am enjoying that our players (Ladd, Wheeler) are showing such frustration. Can't blame them, we can only do the same things so many times before these guys just get downright pissed off. The last 3 years since game one in October 2011 have been nothing but deja vu, rinse, lather, repeat.

At some point, something has to give. Some of us have been calling for this for a while now, so I enjoy seeing players basically now do the same.

The organization is way too soft.. Time to put the HAMMER DOWN.

The Jets cancelled their practice that was scheduled for today opting to give the team time to get back on track prior to heading on this two game trip to Columbus and Buffalo.

WORD is the players need some time to do there Xmas shopping

Maybe they need another skate at Central Park in NYC.

Be realistic, he was just extended 5 more years and has yet to hire his 1st coach. Noel was Heizingers guy. Just not gonna happen.

I just wonder how much conflict is going on ( or might start ) in the Jets offices over having Noel as the coach. IMO Noel wasn't even Heizinger's guy...he was Chipman's. But either way, he wasn't Chevys.

IMO ( and this is all just me speculating ), because of the Thrashers moving Noel was an easy pick to keep without having to find a coach at the last minute, and he did have some success in the AHL with the Moose. At the time Chevy probably went along with Chipman's choice as Chevy was also new and didn't want to rock the boat. So after 3 seasons, will Chevy be given the power to not just do player moves, but coaching moves as well?

Doesn't mean firing the coach is the best decision, but it's always said you can't fire 21 players all at once, so what else can you do?

I notice you just posted something similar in another thread as well. The new NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement specifies that players must receive a specific number of days off each month. The past two practice cancellations recently were directly related to this rule. Hope that helps. It seems, rather than being soft on the players, the team is conversely actually just following labour rules. Oops!

It might also be that because of all the snow in that part of the continent that they decided to cancel pratice and depart for Columbus a few hours earlier. I don't think a travel day can be considered a day off according to the collective agreement.

If there's one thing I've learned following the NFL, extensions to coaches and GM's are meaningless.

I realize it's not realistic, but Chevy is the one that has put the Jets in this mess. Media should be putting more pressure on him.

Are you serious??? Chevy has done an outstanding job since taking over this team, by getting rid of rediculous contracts from the Thrasher days and making great draft picks over the first 3 off seasons(Don't just judge the 1st round picks, look deeper).

If anything its Coaching and the Players on this roster that dont put a fire under their ass every night and there's only one way of fixing that and it certainly isnt firing our GM

The $64 question, is it the lack of talent or is it the inability to get the talent to play effectively and consistently. I am in the camp that believes the talent is there. I have seen stretches of play that have been brilliant by my Jets (followed by extended stretches of wtf). The brilliant stretches make it seem obvious to me that the guys can make it happen. Talented guys that play inconsistently, lacking motivation, and in a system that does not take advantage of their collective strengths is on the coach, not the GM, all imho.

So Noel should be fired then? And what happens then if this core can't be made to work under a different coach? Fire that one too? At what point would you consider this core to be ineffective and poorly constructed?

(I'm anti Noel btw so don't take this as a defense of him)

Fire the coach then work on a culture change. Obviously there is problems in the dressing room we don't know about. Its been said many times by the players just we don't know who they are referring to when they are asking for change. Is it the coach and system or is it a cancerous person in the dressing room.
