You may not care but how the puck carrier handles the puck crossing the blue line but it does impact the wingers and their ability to stay on side.
I suppose KC could have simply stopped and watched the play - but I think it's almost instinctive with these players keep up with the play.
I get why some are pissed off - it was a heart breaker - but I wouldn't put it all on KC.

It's on both of them - and on the coach. This play happened at the end of a solid 1 minute and 30 second shift by both of them. They're tired and sloppy - and they should be our last choices to be on the ice when defending a single goal lead at the end of a game. Only thing worse would be to keep them out there when play restarted after the review. Oh wait, they did that as well.

It's a good thing we keep that Riley Nash guy fresh for any power play though... cause that's why we signed him right? Couldn't have been for his grinding fourth line ability.

This continues to baffle me. Riley Nash is like, borderline Selke. Why is he not out there defending leads?

I just don't get it, man. Someone make it make sense.

Everything is on the coach it seems :sarcasm:

I actually agree and wonder why Copp Lowry Nash don't get that assignment, but IMO the reason is that PoMo wants to keep his big guns happy and he keeps KFC Scheif and Wheeler happy by letting them pad their stats with empty net goals/points. The goalie gets pulled, the top line comes out to try to pot the empty netter and put the game out of reach. It's clockwork and it works a lot of the time.

In some ways as the opposing coach it is what you don't want to see. If your team loses possession of the puck it is game over.

It worked the first time, where we got the empty net goal and it was game over, but then with the long delay, that goal gets called back and everyone is fresh so we go back to the same thing that just worked. Top line comes out to pot another empty netter but with the string of fluky bounces we don't ever control the puck and it's 5 - 5 heading to overtime. I don't really fault any of the forwards there but it really would have helped to win the faceoff.

This game was hard to watch at the end but it's not like we were making bad plays all over the ice and giving up multiple grade A chances. It was just bad luck, bad calls and bad bounces all piling up combined with a lack of attention to detail on KFCs part that negated the ENG.

We get a penalty called in OT so when its a 2 on 1 rush opportunity you have to try to capitalize there and end the game because we're killing the rest of the OT. Then Fiala slew foots Stanley in the corner after he doesn't score and the ref swallows his whistle as Fiala joins the rush back the other way and picks up a point on the OT winner by holding the middle of the ice. If you could challenge for missed penalties on scoring plays we could have had that OT goal overturned but that isn't really a thing.

Anyhow now that I've slept on it there are some positives:

Jets played with more speed most of the night

The third line looked good and the latest composition fits what Moe wants on that line so they were effective at cycling the puck.

Dubois continues his good play and once Ehlers gets going that line should excel.

Copp doesn't fit with Dubois and Ehlers but his game meshes well with Conner/Scheifele's more north/south cycle based offense.

Issues for me with the group are more defensive systems and PK systems. Both needed to be discarded this past offseason.

Just a shame that as soon as Wheeler is back, the line combinations will go back to what doesn’t work. Continue trying to fit the square peg in the round hole.

As for the systems, they’re here to stay as long as Maurice and Huddy are employed.

So far, each game has been a little better. That is a little higher quality of shit.

I thought the D was supposed to be much improved but we couldn't hold on to a 2 goal lead with 5 min remaining. WTF!

I know we started even worse in our best ever 2018 season but that comparison has a bad smell to it. Do we gloss over every flaw and every period of bad play because we once had a worse one and rebounded? So far, there is nothing to say we will rebound this time, or not.

I'm a few years past consoling myself with being incrementally a little better than last game, or last season. We have a high paid, veteran team that is supposed to be contending.

My 'give a shit' level is dropping.

The officiating is something else, the nhl should add another ref on the ice if they're not going to add a coaches challenge for blatant penalties like slashes, slewfooting, headshots etc that directly result in goals.
Krapieceoff playing dirty with the bs and getting away with it...

Boys played better in some respects and worse in others.

The team reminds me of a hard to start built v8... once they get going they're going to be monstrous.

I just checked the replay, it was actually Fiala who took Stanley's legs out from under him. Not surprised though, Fiala was a bit chippy last night too.

7 straight losses…. When the Thrashers got swept in the playoffs they proceeded to start next year 0-6 which got Bob Hartley canned. People won’t agree with it nor believe it, but we are going to be getting close to seeing the end of Maurice real quick at this rate.

Promise?

Now that we know Wheeler is not the problem maybe the Jets should sit out Maurice and see what happens ... its a process.
Is wheeler not the problem? The pp and top unit both looked better without him. Kfc in wheeler’s spot adds a shooting threat while you can have a bigger guy in front of the net.
Copp added defensive prowess to schief’s line.

small sample size and all that.

After this long and seeing many of the same things, I’d say it’s reasonable to suggest it’s a major part. I’m all for holding players accountable but that only goes so far and for so long.

Yes, I'm starting to get that vibe - the post I was responding to was on an "off side"
