I think it’s random out of context one line tweets like this that fans look too much into and come often to a more extreme conclusion.

In the interview with Sara Orlesky he also said Bowness is a great communicator but didn’t mention he never had that before, clearly that means he was more enamored with Maurice than Wheeler was :sarcasm:

Possibly but it's incredibly odd of him to throw that in when Maurice is supposed to be a good communicator. How else is one supposed to interpret that line. I think he just started tuning Moe out like most of the rest of the team.

I agree that Scheifele along with probably all the players started tuning out Maurice, I mean Maurice basically said that was the case, I don’t think Maurice is a better coach than he is but I don’t think he is a brain dead idiot like some think, I do think coaches really do have a shelf life of around 5 years, after that you have ran out of things to say and do.

I’ve noticed before media members like to tweet the end of one sentence along with the start of another sentence and present them as one sentence because it’s a better “sound bite” and generates more buzz/clicks. It’s not like they’re lying but it usually gets people happy/mad/angry and gets evolved into something it never was.

Hainsey was the guy who clearly didn't want to be here. Oduya seemed happy enough but got moved out quickly. Mason and Glass were two more who opted out of returning. I take it Mason's wife didn't enjoy it (and he might have been mad he wasn't getting starts behind Pavs). IIRC, Glass made it sound like Chevy was just dragging his feet so he signed with the Pens. Glass wasn't moving the needle much aside from being a fan favorite on the GST line.

Not quite the way I remember it.

I thought Hainsey was shown the door after the lockout. I also remember it was Oduya who wanted out. He was a pending UFA and was traded at the TD. Did the Jets not want to extend him? Or did he not want to sign here? I remember hearing at the time that it was the latter.

Just my recollections.

Oh I'm not one who just aimlessly hates Maurice. I thought he was very good for the team for the first 5 or so years here. I feel he ran out if ideas and started loosing his players a couple of years back and the org should have long sense moved on.

Good point about reporters. Hard to judge when we don't get the interview ro hear.

Sorry I should also say I didn’t really want to specifically come at you, just personally I’ve kind of moved on to not putting much stock into the Medias tweet because often once you hear the entire question/answer it completely changes how to interpret that tweet.

Its been such a miserable time being a Jets fans lately and random half sentence tweets usually aren’t making things any better.

Most definitely. Maurice, in a lot of ways, is like a 1912 Ford Model T automobile. The vehicle, colloquially known as “Tin Lizzie,” did a lot of good for middle-class Americans, with its affordable price making efficient travel available to a widespread number of Americans. Likewise, Maurice did a lot for the Jets, and he was an upgrade over the horse drawn carriage that was Noel.

However, you don’t want to be driving Tin Lizzie in the mid-1970s when all of your friends are driving hot, new C3 Corvettes. I feel like we had Maurice for so long that it began to feel like that.

Forget the 'vettes, I'd rather us have reliable public transportation systems including light-rail transit.

So Lauer will handle PP and Arniel PK. Bowness will oversee most of the 5 on 5.

He said one coach will be largely in charge of Pre scout.

I liked that he's putting a large focus on the Jets and how they play and not worrying too much about what the opposition will do. I like that and it will be a stark contrast from Maurice who imo was far to reactive to what the opposition was doing.

What about Moose Man? Do they tell what Johnston is to do?

I'm still trying to figure out this coaching staff. True North hires Nolan Baumgartner for the Moose, who already have a d coach in Eric Dubois. Is Dubois going to get promoted this year? Since the Jets don't have a d coach, and none of the coaches on this team have ever played defense.

We haven’t had a D coach for the past ten years and that didn’t bother them! :D

He didn't specifically say what he'd do. I'm guessing pre-scout as he mentioned that would occupy a good amount of the coach who was in charge of that's job. He also did say that he wanted all coaches involved in all aspects so he'll also have input in all systems.

"I wasn't interested in going to a rebuild," Bowness said. "This team has a great young goalie in Connor [Hellebuyck], a good defense, we've got some great offensive forwards. Are there some things we're going to have to change? Absolutely."

"Rick is a guy that is going to come in here, and it's not a 'my way or the highway,' but it's a strong approach to getting this team back on track," Cheveldayoff said. "Rick is the type of guy that is up for this challenge."

"Whatever happens in the future, we're focusing on the present here now," Cheveldayoff said. "If you're trying to, in this game, look too far ahead, you're going to fall off the deep end, so to speak. We're focused on right now. Rick is here. He's in with both feet and I think it's going to be good for our organization."

Reading this really scares me. I could see this season easily being a tire fire. I sure hope not but my expectations are super low.

I can't say I've ever had lower expectations/excitement going into a season. Even during the Pavelec era atleast there was always a glimmer of hope.

Personally, I'm super excited to see the Jets with their first new Head Coach since 2013, and first completely new coaching staff (except Flaherty) ever.

I'm hoping to see a new culture, a refreshed looking team, and player buy-in. The Jets have a decent roster this year, with some possible changes still to come.

It would be nice to hear if the Jets locker room had a problem and if it was addressed with the new coach.

Agreed. I have felt the team needed a new approach for 3 seasons. Was not excited by the Bowness hire but really glad for the wholesale changes.
