This is going to trigger a lot of people and I hate to say this but Connor looked pre-KHL Burmistrov esque skating around like a waterbug, turning and twisting but nothing happening and very few shots being generated from all that skating.

Yeah, he only leads the team in assists and is 2nd in points. Brutal.
Yeah and how many of those points are on the PP which is basically a skills competition where he's able to float around behind the net. And if you take his points and subtract the goals against that he's been directly related to they'd damn near even out. This isnt the 1980's, youve gotta be able to play defensively and right now he's a complete liability. You think its a coincidence that his ice time was way down and he barely saw the ice in the 3rd? The coaches are concerned too. I love Wheels but his overall play this season is concerning.

The grit and hard work were getting it done -

Lowry our best player tonight and a couple of goals from guys that don't get a lot of love. Copp getting lots of looks - he's lovin his new role up top.
I like the hard work version of the Jets and they can win games that way - especially when that work gets rewarded. The bottom 6 are earning their paychecks.

I thought out forecheck was really impressive tonight - we didn't give them much to work with.
PK was very effective - shutting down the lanes and pressuring the shooters.

Ehlers and Scheif are starting to figure each other out - very much an east/west approach and Scheif is figuring out how to play with a winger that is not predictable.

Second line is a mixed bag of players that would normally never be playing together - likely temporary as we wait on PLD.
Wheels is off a bit despite the assists but still key to the PP once they get set up. I was surprised his minutes were clipped as much as they were but I think they need to start managing his minutes and allow him to recharge - especially late in the game.

KV was working hard and needs to learn the NHL game - but at least he's working his tail off out there and that will get him more ice time.

The D was much better than they have been - not nearly as hemmed in and they were on loose pucks much quicker than usual - makes the game a lot easier when you have the puck. Still some panic out there when there's pressure but I thought this was one of our better games defensively for most of the night.

Solid goaltending - we are very lucky to have two guys that can take care of the net.

Maybe I need to watch that goal again but on the 1st watch it didn't seem like the guy who scored was his man.
The problem was he never took one, he froze. He didn’t take the trailer, so the d-man stepped up to him. This left Tkachuk alone on the outside. Wheeler got caught watching, like he wasn’t sure who to take. Again, it was one play, and he had a lot more effort tonight. Overall, I was happy with his play.

Its the result of the matchups. Maurice hard matches his first and third lines and the second takes the leftovers. I like the strategy of having Wheeler and Conner out against those matchups.

I am not sure what Moe intends to do when Dubois gets here as he is another plus matchup center. Maybe we run three lines more evenly with him.

Let me offer a mea culpa here: I was one of many who derided the Stanley pick, but he has shown (through 10 games) that he can fit in at the NHL level. I have always expected the worst and hoped for the best with him. If he can carve out a 6 year career as a 5/6 D man, I think that would be a win for him. Better than I anticipated, at least. Was it worth trading up in the first round to get him? I don't know, but he's making the most of his opportunity at the moment.

Loving Lowry, Copp and Appleton these last two games. Wheeler at 15 min is totally fine by me. Cutting a couple of minutes of 5 v 5 time and any high leverage minutes at the end with a lead is just about perfect. If we are chasing a game and need to take on some risk to try and even it up, by all means throw him out there.

Makes sense and would explain it -
Lots of options when PLD arrives - your guess is as good as mine but I would assume we'll have at least 3 lines that can do some damage.
I've stopped looking at the forward scenarios - they are all better than what we have now so I don't really care how it shakes out.
But do want to see Scheif and PLD centering the top two and the rest of the pcs can fall where they may.
I also expect to see a number of combinations while they search for chemistry - so I won't get too attached to what we see early.
Really looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out - we should be much better.

We should see what PLD looks like in limited minutes with Wheeler his first few games.

Harkins Scheif Ehlers 19
KC Stastny Copper 17
KV PLD Wheeler 14
MP Lowry Apples 10

JMo Poink 22
Forbort/Heinola DD 22
Stan the Man Poolman/Boolow 16

obvious

I think JoMo and Pionk play apart to spread out the puck moving among the top two pairings but that is much less of an issue with Heinola on our second pairing provided he can seamlessly adapt to playing RD in the NHL.

Agree -
And he should only get better - he strikes me as the type that will grow significantly as he gains confidence.
He's the opposite of cocky and this type of player sometimes needs to be convinced they belong - he'll do that himself if he continues to keep it simple and limits the mistakes.

I had him or Forbs paired with DD.

Luckily the Jets will have a number of good players like Heinola/Perfetti on ELC during his remaining few years so it wont hurt us much.
I've been saying trade him since just before they re-signed him and now I say trade him as soon as you can (after the 21-22 season).
