Lowry isn't even the coach that Maurice is.
Fire the coaching staff now and bring in AV or CJ or someone and tell him he has 30 games to earn a contract for next season. Let him pick his assistants.
Boolow over Stanimal/Heinola? Gimme a break.

If there is no change, then the team needs a re-tooling.
Getting rid of Wheeler is a good start. Give whatever we get for Copper with Wheeler and get rid of him.
Schmidt needs to go and I would move Dillon as well. Dillon shouldn't be hard to move at the TDL and should bring back a 1st...maybe we add a 4th.
Should we look at what Pionk would bring back this off-season?

When Perfetti comes back, why not try him between two vets to see what he looks like at center.

Coming out of TC last fall, I thought this team was as good as the team that went to the semi-finals a few years back...

You can always get a short term HC, because everybody in the coaching business who is not an NHL HC wants to be one. Interim assistants would be another story. Unless they are dumpster diving for breakfast, they won't likely want to leave whatever they may be doing for a 30 game gig.

Systems? Too early IMO
Identity? Team that works real hard while they sort out the roster and find a coach.

That's where I would start - it certainly isn't the long term plan but you have to start somewhere and I believe this should be the fundamental starting point.
That is, assuming you can get anyone to buy in - which they are not - but it's still the starting point.
I'd think this task would have been laid before coach Lowry - and I sense his frustration

I start with a new coaching staff and moving Scheifele and Wheeler.

You admit they are not listening, so how do you start with a team that works really hard until you make those moves?

I'm also said that this would be the extent of what Lowry was tasked with - but I didn't say he would be successful.
I'm also talking about right now -
If Lowry is unable to get this team motivated to a point where they are at least working hard, you would then need to move on.
From there, it's new coaching, players, etc - which is where you are going with this.

Lowry is likely going to finish off the season - can he get anything done over that period? Probably not - but that is step one.

I think it would be a mistake to move on Helly. That would insure us to likely years and years of failure

It is the one spot you don't move on when you got a proven commodity. Look around the league teams don't move goalies once they have them. LA kept an aging Quick for ever. The only goalies I can think of that moved where Fleury and Murray from Pittsburgh. Fleury was cap casualty twice and Murray was moved for nothing

The more likely scenario is Helly bounces back next year.

Really a new coach with a new direction is required. The players then have to buy in and you move from there. Dumping Helly is stupid IMO

Cory Schneider? Luongo? Bishop? There have been others that I can't put my finger on.

It would certainly be a drastic move and a risky one. The problem with goalies is that they lose it for no apparent reason or suddenly get it the same way. There are good goalies available every year. The trouble is figuring out which ones will be good for the next few years.

That underscores your point about keeping the one you have. Except that he might lose it, or be very ordinary for the next few years anyway. And then he may re-capture his Vezina game for a few years. Just so unpredictable.

But Helle has quite a resume, going all the way back to Odessa Jackalopes. You are right that he is more likely to rebound strongly next year.

Fair enough.
Except I think you are in the past tense. That was step one, to see if Lowry could get them to start at least working hard. I think we could sum that up as playing with pride. I think that has failed. Next step, Trade Deadline.

One other thing that's bugging me is maybe it's time to break up Scheifele and Wheeler . Why are they always together even when we are playing like crap and losing games? I thought maybe that was a Maurice thing but Lowry is doing it too . This is one reason i wish we had a new coach and assistants , to see if they would do the same thing.

you start with systems.... do you think boudreau just kept greens systems in place and told them to work harder... no, he changed the way they played...
keeping the same systems that haven't worked and expecting different results it just insanity...
I don't understand your pov at all... you say our system's are flawed but you think we need to fix the effort first, so at what point do you fix the system?
players go all out with effort only to get let down by coaching do you think they are going to continue to go all out?
why does it even have to be 1 or the other? why can't we get new systems while getting players to play harder? I feel like there might be more buy in with this team if they are trying something new rather then doing the same and expecting different results..

I agree. We know Schiefele says that he plays better with Wheeler, but I don't know if the stats back that up (since the WOWY is behind a subscription paywall now).

Scheifele-Wheeler 5 on 5 WOWY 2019-2022 raw stats, no fancy chart.

TL;DR (imo): Scheifele bleeds chances against regardless but the offense is mostly there regardless of whether he's with or without Wheeler.
Wheeler's offense dries up away from Scheifele and his defensive metrics improve marginally.

Seriously this winter can't end soon enough for me , you are up 3-0 after the 1st period on the road and lose 6-3 ? Wheeler looked like a 60 year old out there tonight and he's our highest paid player, he should be embarrassed taking a paycheck. Scheifele was awful tonight as well and Helly needs to sit for a while . Booboo and the rest of the clowns we have playing on our 3rd and 4th lines all need to go back to the Moose for better coaching.

A very bitter cold winter indeed, and a very cold Jet's team. Lot's of changes need to be made. Maurice could see the writing on the wall, and got his ass out before the shit hit the fan.

I believe this loss to the Avs will be good in the long run, as it will make Jets management see how inferior of a team we have, compared to a powerhouse like the Avs. Just going by memory, I believe they blew us out the last time we played them as well.

I think ownership/ management have been sent a strong message, that it's time for serious reassessment, and significant changes.

Going forward from now on, I won't get that disappointed in Jet's losses, because I have a good idea where this team stands, in relation to the others, and that's lower middle of the pack. I'll just try to enjoy the games for what they are.

The changes should start with Wheeler ( biggest problem), and maybe trading Scheifele.

Great post game interview from Dubois. You could tell that he was holding back and had a lot more to say, but thought better of it.
He was bang on with all his comments including that they have to play with speed and take it to the other team as well as the need to find an identity.

The Luongo/Schneider situation in Vancouver was weird though. That seemed like a one off because the move Schneider and keep Lu. Then Eddie Lack is coming up as well as Markstrom(is that where he was drafted) and they eventually get Lu out.

Bishop was moved out when Vasi took over in Tampa.

A lot of these situations you have someone knocking on the door and we don’t have anyone close right now.

Fluery was a shell of himself even at the time as a cap casualty. But the guy has always been inconsistent.

I see McIntyre is like a lot of the posters here.

“+/- is a dumb stat!” *Proceeds to use it when talking about Scheifele and Wheeler*

McIntyre championing Stanley and his +5 and implicating Morrissey and his -8, not only shows how utterly useless +/- is, it also shows how incredibly stupid he is. Not to mention his complete cherry picking of when he thinks it might be useful.

Some of the people who cover this team are just an embarrassment.

I just hope what's going on doesn't prevent him from signing long-term. Oh your line of you Connor and Svech is doing well, too bad here's Wheeler. Oh you have Wheeler back with Scheifele here's Ves , oh here's Brooks , damn here's Svech.
