do you think an interim coach for like a few months has ultimate authority to make that call?C - Morrissey
A- Ehlers
A- Lowry
Backup A - Connor
Scheif and wheeler dont deserve shit based on how they have played and acted the last 2-3 seasons.
Bowness has already done something Dave Lowry never had the balls to do.
One of two things is going to happen this season...either the team is going to implode under bowness which will force ownership to go into a full rebuild and trade away assets... or this team is finally going to get their shit together and play with a sense of purpose and determination like they had in 2018.
Either way its better than the half assed approach they took last year.
Ah, the mental equivalent of “I got hit by a truck this morning and my body still hasn’t figured out what still works or whether it’s alive”Did Wheeler use the same answer 3 times already? "I'm lucky to have been named a captain of a Canadian NHL franchise and I'll always be grateful"?
Guess he didn't know what else to say?

Agreed, you could tell the younger group wanted more say, well they have it now and it will be good for them.
The old leadership group just grew stale but they dus help take us to a conference finals. We shall see if the bee group can take us as far or preferably further.
You are right, I think. He was trying his best to be diplomatic but still fired a few daggersI get the feeling that Wheels is trying not to take it personally (of being stripped of the C), but I think he's definitely not happy about it.
(I have difficulty reading people, so maybe I'm out to lunch)
what strikes you as stastny being the problem? in the span of a year and a half, they traded for him, signed him on day 1 of FA, kept him for the entire year including at the TDL. To me, they would have not brought him back, or dealt him pretty quickly if he was hindering the team. i can see some of the players being a bit annoyed that he called out the lack of respect & accountability since it shows how poorly the teammates might have interacted. but shedding light on the problems perhaps led to some needed change.I'd go
Scheif because it appears he's committed to them. He's their guy at nhl media day
Josh cuz it's obvious
Lowry cuz it's obvious
Ehlers or Connor to get a younger guy involved
But I'm not in the room and nobody on here is so.... it's tough to know exactly.
I've recently wondered if Stastny was a problem
I think that all leadership groups in sports or work place need a reset occasionally b/c leaders get burnout, loose their voice to the team, get jaded, etc. Plus you have times where you have new leaders who are ready to take that next step and I think we have that here.
Meh, without retention he isn't going anywhere anywways.Wheeler won't be much easier to move at the TD as he will still under contract for next season as well. The following TD will be the easiest time to move him.
I think he really will follow Pomo... that's probably the delay - fully expect Tkachuk-Barkov-Wheeler as their top line
Wheeler (retained) for Hornqvist and 2nd round
Now this is climate changeI didn't mind Blake as a 'C' but I do understand this from what Bowness was expressing. it signals a turning of the tide culturally and I do wonder if this type of move refreshes and reorients some standpoints from guys like PLD.

After listening to Blake and Rick this was not mutual and it was a call the coaching staff made which is a pleasant surprise to me. I thought it would have been mutual but I was wrong. I thought Blake handled it about as well as he could have given the gravity of it.
We are also talking about a post pandemic world. It's easy to say they should eat $8 million over the next two years to move him but I'd imagine that is a tough sell to ownership after the hit they took from COVID.
Really? What was it that leads you to this conclusion? (I haven't listened to the presser at all)
I just don't see how this move could possibly be surprising or un-expected to anyone including Wheeler...given the way last year went and all the talk in the off-season of efforts to move Wheels.

Blake said he was surprised by it. He did say we have had other down seasons and it didn't result in a change of captaincy.

I believe it was reported a while back the organization wasn't willing to take back any salary.
Odd way for organization to handle Wheeler...change leadership & keep him here.
