Everyone including the team agrees that the team culture needs a major shift. Not a fan of still having the long serving former captain hanging around. You cant tell me he's not still going to hold sway over the locker room. He needs to be moved for a true culture shift.

so do you expect them to buy him our similar to parise & suter (suter a notable incompetent leader)? if there was a trade it would've happened instead of this song and dance.

It's hard to move someone that nobody wants. More so when the Jets have said they won't retain salary.

Ehlers for A would be nice imo. On top of being one of our most consistently effective players, just seems like a positive upbeat dude.
Ehlers is also one of the few players on the team that owns it when he doesn't play well and calls himself out. I actually think he is a great choice for a leader.

My guess is:
1) JoMo
2) Lowsy
3) Fly
4) PLD - maybe as a try to entice him to stay and be the C if he signs longer term next year

You probably captured a version of what the plan was in June but Its September now and this is what Plan B looks like.

You can't just move someone if their are no takers. I guess you can keep adding until you get a taker, but how far should Chevy go?

i think your last sentence is basically why nobody wants.

what contender had 8M+ in cap room for 2 years? the Jets also do need a surefire top-6 Wing with the roster constructed as is, Wheeler is that. Just hope he handles removing the C/leadership responsibilities with class or no distractions.

if the jets really want him gone they would have atleast contemplated some retaining of salary. look at minnesota w/ the suter or parise buy outs for example.

We are also talking about a post pandemic world. It's easy to say they should eat $8 million over the next two years to move him but I'd imagine that is a tough sell to ownership after the hit they took from COVID.

Jeez I hope not. Might as well just give everyone an "A."

Good, glad to see.

Some will spin this as a negative towards the past leadership (albeit we did need a new voice), I view it as a good chance for others to develop leadership skills and experience the pressures of leadership. Passing of the torch so to speak, glad to see it the next batch of young players need to step up in leadership roles. It easy being a non leader in sports & work, being a good leader is very difficult and develops character.

i don't think the best players are always necessarily the best leaders. and truthfully, we aren't privy to all the details of what they do or say.

however,
just what ive heard from ehlers over the years, i hear a guy that's taken accountability for his play (even though he's one of our premier fwds) more than any of our supposed leaders. doesn't complain, plays his role whatever the coach dictates. he's in his prime years, signed for the next 3, & overall think he's handled stuff like media responsibilities quite well. i wouldn't mind him as an A.

Agree. Ehlers leads by example. I think he should have an A. I wouldn't vote for him to have the C though.

Following Pomo footsteps? Lost the room.
So now Wheeler will pout all season
Or will there actually be some accountability this year?

I don't see Wheeler as a pouter.
He will continue to be one of the hardest working players in the league. If his production drops, as it almost certainly will, it will be because of advancing age, not pouting.

Wheeler says having the "C" was a burden and doesn't need a letter going forward to be a leader. Hasn't had specific conversations with Rick but doesn't envision his role changing. Was surprised at the captaincy change.

Agreed, you could tell the younger group wanted more say, well they have it now and it will be good for them.

The old leadership group just grew stale but they dus help take us to a conference finals. We shall see if the bee group can take us as far or preferably further.

I get the feeling that Wheels is trying not to take it personally (of being stripped of the C), but I think he's definitely not happy about it.

(I have difficulty reading people, so maybe I'm out to lunch)

C - Morrissey
A- Ehlers
A- Lowry
Backup A - Connor
Scheif and wheeler dont deserve shit based on how they have played and acted the last 2-3 seasons.

Bowness has already done something Dave Lowry never had the balls to do.

One of two things is going to happen this season...either the team is going to implode under bowness which will force ownership to go into a full rebuild and trade away assets... or this team is finally going to get their shit together and play with a sense of purpose and determination like they had in 2018.
Either way its better than the half assed approach they took last year.
