I actually really like the marathon/sprint analogy that you made. If you were to go out and watch 32 people compete in a marathon, yes.... the winner usually comes down to a sprint at the end
BUT you will spend the bulk of your time watching the race up until the sprint at the end. So why not enjoy it if your runner is doing well and is in the leading pack for most of the race?
I mean... if the only thing that's important to you is the sprint at the end, why watch the rest of the race at all? Just tune in at the 25.5 mile mark
Same applies with the Jets... if all that matters to someone is the playoffs, why watch the regular season at all? Why not just tune in in April?
