Rumor: Jesse Puljujarvi Part 3: Maybe He Picked Out His Brain Through His Nose One Lick at a Time?

Been watching hockey for years.

Guys like Hall and Ebs were extremely tough to watch defensively. Both as bad or worse than Puljujarvi at most the things people are complaining about.

Puljujarvi production playing with talent is solid. He has never been given prime PP time like Eberle, Hall, Mcdavid, and Draisaitl did. And Puljujärvi has approximately as much pedigree on the PP as those guys did entering the league.

It shocks me how willingly blind people are to how different Puljujarvi was treated compared to other young talented wingers.

Hell, Gagner was putrid defensively and he was used as a top 6 center his whole time on the Oilers.

If Puljujärvi was used like Gagner was I wouldn't be surprised if he was far better than him. Even playing center.
They tried him on the PP in practice and couldn't find an open spot to save his life. His issue is his teammates have no idea what he is doing and it's impossible to use him in systems play at this level because of it

Yeah the Oilers saw a young kid and said "Imma end this kids career" just cause.

Those guys were all able to create offense and were the team’s best options at the time. They created more offense in one week than Jesse could in a season. That’s why...and I’m Gagner’s biggest critic.

What i find weird is how last season Hitchcock had time for Puljujarvi and his goal was to make him a better player and get him in the top 6. Then they sent him down for what was supposed to be an extended stay to build confidence in the top 6 in the AHL (Jesse played great in those two games). Yet they called him back up the next week and Hitch immediately came out to say he was basically going to try and turn Jesse into a defensive specialist player. The whole sequence of events was incredibly odd.

Dude, not sure who were watching but the play died on Jesse's stick 99% of the time he got the puck. He can't pass or receive a pass and his release is horribly slow and easy to read.

Along with his strange skating gait it was pretty embarrassing to watch. If he produced it would be different.

Fact is he got more opportunity than he deserved because of his draft posistion.

You think the Oilers intentionally held him back to fit under the cap? Thats a new one. Nah he just sucks (by NHL standards). Hence why no one really wants him. I hope for his and the oilers sake it's a confidence issue which it could very well be.

The Oilers will do anything to try to make the playoffs, including countless mindnumbingly stupid panic trades. They would of loved for him to put up 20-25 goals playing on one of the 3Cs wings.

Maybe its because he's shown to be poor on the PP in practice at the NHL level?
Guy just isn't a good enough NHLr for the Oilers to risk giving him a top 6 role.

Sure Hall and Ebs were poor defensively but offensively, they were miles ahead of what JP has accomplished.

I call BS.

Puljujarvi has not even been given the chances those guys got.

Completely different world if JP gets 1.5 minutes on every powerplay.

Nuge in his first year had a crazy amount of PP time to pad his stats and build up his confidence.

It's not a small thing.

It's a massive difference the opportunity others have gotten over Puljujarvi and there is no on ice reason for it.

Off ice who knows, but there have been no reports of bad practice or habits. Exactly the opposite from what I've read.

Please provide some kind of quote for this.

I have only heard this here and it is completely fabricated as far as I know.

Like I said. I think he has less opportunity because of cap management. No intention to ruin his career. Just keep him affordable.

Okay.

So why didn't he get that time?

What reason would they have to not give this apparent great player play time?

Your argument makes zero sense in reality dude.

I think JP needs skating lessons and needs to learn positioning to even start thinking about getting any chance anywhere. He is a deer caught in the headlights out there. Bumping into guys, etc,

That is not bad developing. That is a guy who doesn't have the drive to improve himself

Your argument makes zero sense even from a cap management perspective. No team brings over a player to the NHL and sabatoges their career to avoid paying them money. If that was a concern then they wouldn't bring them over. Your argument is so far away from reality dude.

No team takes a potential good player and goes "well if he is good, we can't pay him so let's make sure he is only average"

Yakupovs production w/ talent is solid. With McDavid and Duchene.

There's deliberate points, and there's courtesy points..

Anyone that watched Yak could see half the points were a mere by product of McD.
Same as JP. I rewatched those games. He lucked into a lot of those points after making stupid and illogical plays.

It's no coincidence 2 coaches treated him like they did. It's no coincidence they treated him like that b/c his own teamates didn't want to play w/ him

Agreed.

I had little time for Hitchcock to begin with. That sequence and even recent quotes make me think the guy is an idiot and certainly has not helped the Puljujarvi situation.

The third most winning coach in league history is an idiot and you know better, got it.

Hitchcock clearly saw what you saw before he came to the team, a good player who just needed a chance. Then he dealt with the player and very quickly put him in the bottom 6. Hmm wonder why that is?

As I have said numerous times. My theory is simple cap management.

Take a talent. Train him as a two way winger. Run him in the bottom six with no PP time. Save millions on his first few contracts.

That's what I would do. Seems like a great way to build a winning team.

Sorry but that's just not true.

Hitchcock is still being quoted as being a big Puljujarvi fan.

He is obviously full of shit.

Hahaha

Seriously the guy with the camera (Komarov) was panning across the guys (Laine, Aho, Barkov and other NHLers) sitting at their stalls in the dressing room and Jesse made a funny face to the camera...yeah...what a ****ing idiot...

I don’t want to be part of your club anymore if that’s your reaction to someone having a second of fun while sitting around with his buddies after some ice time.

I totally get what you’re saying about how Jesse is being unreasonable with not giving Holland and Tippet a chance. But the Oilers have shuffled out many GMs and coaches over the last 13 years and really not much has changed. The culture is still the same. Bobby Nicks is still running the show and Lowe, Howson and the OBC is still very much there. Hell they fired MacT, yet I’m willing to bet they drafted a couple of players specifically because MacT will be their coach in Russia next year. Hopefully in a few years, if things don’t improve, Holland takes over for Bobby Nicks and and appoints a heir and there is a real culture change or an “Oil Change”. Maybe they can make a TV show about it  (what a joke that was)

Again not trying to say Jesse is justified (if what TSN Leafs Lunch is saying is true) just that it’s easy to understand someone not trusting that anything has really changed because Oilers. Jesse has zero leverage or input and what he says or feels really doesn’t matter in the end as he’s a RFA and his rights are controlled.

I didn't see the actual footage, just reacting to what was posted here so I may be off base in fairness to Jesse. And I still want you in my Edmonton Oiler Alcoholics Club.

Man if you thought Jesse’s interviews were awkward before; can you imagine if he actually shows up to camp and has 25 reporters in his face grilling him about his trade requests?

Agreed.

I had all the time and respect for Hitch initially when the team started hot. Then it became clear that his message wasn’t getting through to anyone and that management (Bobby Nicks) was an even bigger fool. So most of the respect I had for the Oilers management as a whole was gone.

Glad they brought in a known commodity and a smart guy like Holland. Hopefully he gets the keys to the entire organization soon and Lowe/Bobby F off for good.

So Jesse, why did you request a trade? "I like Edmonton, play hockey is fun"

So if you like Edmonton, why did you threaten to play in Europe if you weren't traded? "Yup, I'm here in Edmonton to play hockey" *polishes his right nostril with his tongue*

So once again, why did you request a trade? "yes, I like Gatorade"

Reporter-"**** this ****, this guy is dumber than a sack of hammers".

Did you seriously rewatch every game from the last three years with the prerogative of determining whether Jesse’s points were due to luck and mooching off McDavid? That’s dedication to a crusade that I have never witnessed before. Shit I couldn’t bare watching most of the last 30-40 games of last year at all

No. I watched only that stretch that 1st year where he played w/ McDavid and posters like yourself raved/over exaggerated/embellished his p/60 like he was a superstar

That’s cool. I admire your dedication, that you spent, what, 20-30 hours of your time watching 3 year old games of Puljujarvi just to confirm your own bias.

Do you have all Oiler games archived somewhere? Or are they available online? I’d love to be able to go back and watch McDavid’s rookie season over again at some point and see how his game has changed and improved.

I'm not a Holland fan either. His work during the salary cap Era in Detroit has not been good. Don't like his moves so far here either.

I do like that he is generally known to run a first class professional organization. The exact polar opposite of the Oilers.

Unfortunately I think this is more of a modification of the old boys club rather than Holland actually coming in and being able to actually change the weird and unprofessional way things have been rumored.

I hope I am wrong about Holland and the organization. I am at an all low with my optimism for now and the future. Imo it's never been worse.

That is literally every single team in the NHL.

I was a Pulju fan, but the more you see the way he is maneuvering through this situation, shows the kid is a dumby.
stupid on and off the ice, and there is a reason teammates request not to play with him. he isn't of NHL quality.
best of luck in Finland Jesse.
