Rough Werks ahead for the Pens. Out of MTL,BUF,CAR,WPG,CGY,EDM and VAN I can see them winning maximum two games. That should be it for Sullivan, imo.

That’s the way things should work…unfortunately Mr. Top Three Coach will be here through Sid’s entire extension, which coincides with the length of his contract, because Sid and the organization want him here lol

@Honour Over Glory said in another thread that Dubas wants Sullivan gone. I don’t know if there’s any source to it but one can hope
I haven’t heard a single source say that but I have heard Canadian NHL media state that FSG put a clause in Sullivan’s contract that essentially make it such that Dubas or any GM can’t fire him, only the owners…and Werner still seems to love him lol…his contract extension was signed with ownership before Dubas came on board

Hmmm, if true that only FSG can fire Sullivan the Pens are in a bad, bad spot.

@Zirakzigil gave that hope. So I blame him.

That would be something that would be widely reported.

Well LeBrun recently said Sullivan had an “ironclad” contract when discussing whether Dubas would fire him this past summer
That would be absolutely ridiculous for a team to do. I don't know if any other team has done that to be honest. I do know that weasel Sullivan went and neogitated directly with the owners which is just the most weasely of weasel things to do, just a pure piece of shit.

I call bullshit on the ironclad bs. It'd be mentioned heavily in any Sullivan next to be fired or hot seat thread and there's quite a few.

Ironclad probably means he's still owed money even if he's hired elsewhere or something. Not that the GM can't fire the coach--that's psychotic.

But again, this team's f***ing stupid, so...
That should be something fsg should learn from next time, to not negotiate with the f***ing coach next time and let the blokes doing the job they were hired to do, to do it.

They can risk losing far more with fans slowly not showing up and the revenue lost by no playoffs again. Firing Sullivan is worth the cost.

For real. It's something like 0.003% of their collective net worth to fire him and eat the like $25M he's owed.

For a group that bought a team for a billion dollars just for shits and giggles, you'd think they wouldn't be so hesitant. But for whatever reason, they genuinely think he's an elite coach.

That's why I'm hoping the team is bad enough to get Sullivan's ego to make him walk. Like he's "too good" to put up with these kinda questions about prospect development and lineup decisions that the plebs just don't understand, and that he deserves to go elsewhere and coach for a contender.

I think it's 3yrs at 5m/yr so it isn't even 25m, it's just 15. And I feel like he has the same stipulation every coach has - will get paid until he finds a new job and then his contract is null and void.

It's wild to think an ownership would value where a twat is from vs the smart move but when you dig into the blokes in FSG, dumb shit like that is right up their alley.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually a clause where he'd still get paid even if he were hired somewhere else, just because this ownership/organization are so damn dysfunctional and driven by weird sentimental bullshit, and they gotta go the extra mile to get their guy.

But yeah, this team sucks.

Yeah it wouldn't shock me. I bet they have some back door deal to give him shares in FSG as well so they can keep that wanker around no matter what.

I have a non-zero amount of concern that he's just gonna step back from coaching and go into a FO role, continuing to work in tandem with Dubas to ensure this team's never watchable again.

Sully would get hired in short order if he got fired so his contract isn't a concern to Fsg or Dubas I don't think. Whatever we think of Sullivan the rest of the league has a high opinion of him.

The Pens management like him. That's why he's still here.

No one is saying he's despised. There's just this weird hype for what a coach does at any point in his career that idiots weigh heavily when ranking coaches. So what he's done since 2018 is of no concern in the rankings because the two cups give him clout forever.

In reality, the team has under performed since 2018 with a ton of overhaul of the roster to make it his roster as much as possible and it keeps failing. I think as much as they like him, they're likely finally steering towards - nice bloke, wrong voice for this team moving forward.

So if losing a bunch now means this team can finally have a brighter future when he's gone, a lot of us are down for that. Also it sucks to see Jesse sit when he hasn't been bad in these games either.

To finally look good after his surgeries and camp where he turned a corner after a big start, to be the first healthy scratch taken out after playing is bs. It's typical tone deaf behavior by Sullivan where he doesn't understand what his line up actually needs.

I'm more confused than anything at how they've gone through multiple ownership groups, multiple FOs, swapped out several pieces of the roster multiple times, but simply refuse to change coaches amidst a steep and steady decline since 2018.

That's not to say the rosters have been good, there's been way too many dogshit players for years. I'm just saying it's incomprehensible how everything's been shuffled around except arguably the easiest cog in the machine to swap out.

Just weird stuff. Dude must have corporate bullshitting down to a science for so many different people to have been fooled into thinking he's not some buffoon who lucked into an insane core with a huge chip on their collective shoulder.

-edit- Oh, Jesse Puljujarvi shouldn't ever be benched for Acciari. For the hall monitors.

I've been following Puljujarvi's career quite closely and he's had some great stretches, but also very non-productive ones. His worst times were the seasons before hip surgeries but I think it was also confidence etc. as Puljujarvi seems to be highly affected by it.

The recent times have given me optimism. He was among the best Finns in the World Championships and after that I was sure this would have a positive impact to his confidence for the following summer. After the great preseason and a solid start to the season it was quite surprising he was the one to be healthy scratched. Maybe that was the easy way for Sullivan as he possibly felt Puljujarvi is a guy that won't complain unlike some other options he considered.

Anyway, it was just one game so we'll see how it continues. I still feel optimistic about this and wouldn't be surprised if Puljujarvi will earn a look in the top6 at some point if he stays healthy and keeps working hard. I've seen him play twice with Crosby (may have missed something) and those shifts turned to goals in which JP had a part so maybe at some point they'll give it a go. We'll see, it naturally also depends on if JP can at least keep this level.

Maybe I'm completely naive on how professional sports organizations are run, but....is that really that unusual? Even if it's not 'official' I think functionally that's how things would work. I can't imagine a GM firing a coach without running it by ownership first. If ownership didn't want that, they'd put a stop to it.

I mean, wasn't that the thing with JR? He wanted to trade Letang and quit because ownership wouldn't let him? Firing the coach seems like even a step up from that.
