The fact that he signed a PTO with this team and how this coach uses players like him trying to find a clean slate...literally proves he has zero f***ing IQ.

The success rate of players having the hip resurfacing procedure and playing a full season or regularly again is like 0%.

Jovanovski, Kesler, Backstrom, Hagelin, etc all never played again or barely played until it took them out for good. Even with recent advancements, Backstrom is essentially done and Kane is someone everyone has eyes on to see if he might be the one to succeed. But Jesse being someone to even hope for, for anything is an epic pipe dream. I would be shocked if he signed anything other than a PTO. He's the youngest to get this surgery out of the names we know.
I read somewhere it was his 2nd one. I don't know if that's true or not, read it on a different section of this site.

My bad, I read it wrong. I agree with your point.

I just see a yellow jersey with no #.
Zoom in on his helmet.

Looking forward to him picking his nose with his tongue closeups during the games.
Sure it's not seeing him outside in drag?

They needed a big body to sit in front of the net and if they nail him with a big clapper big deal.

So management and ownership intends to go down with Sullivan. Cool.
You could add McDavid to this monstrosity of a team and they'd still go down. No joke, it's all over.

I don’t hate it, though I don’t think it’ll amount to much.

Unfortunately, I’m thinking this is all Dubas will do.
They should sell off Jake to the highest bidder. Start the next re build. In fact I would do a sign and trade for even MORE value coming back!

Our biggest issue beyond the PP is the inability to ''finnish'', he's unfortunately just more of the same.
For sure there's no guarantees and it may well be he continues as it ended before his surgery, but half of his time (right after his first surgery) in the Oilers he did finish pretty well. In the covid season Puljujarvi's goals/60 was the 3rd best of the team and his PP goals/60 has usually been good (even among the best of the team). However, the Oilers had Hyman in the first unit and the 2nd unit didn't play much.

He is a guy with pretty high peaks and pretty low lows and unfortunately the last season+ was the low low. I would say there's a 30% chance he'll be way better than you guys expect but also a 30% chance he will return to Europe after this season.

If the only thing he does is pull this PP to league average, this will be the best signing of the season

I come from his camp (well it's more like I used to do) so take my words as you like. I've learned to be modest with expectations so we'll see how it goes and if he actually plays any game for you. I don't know if or how much he can drag your PP, but at his best he can be a very solid net presence. I like to remind about the times when he had decent stats as somehow no other fan seems to remember the better times, but other than that I don't want to pump his tires.

I assumed it was a ligament thing, didn’t know it was that resurfacing deal. If he’s not cooked he’s certainly going to take a lot of time getting back to NHL-caliber.

Oh yeah? Then what's this?

PoolParty seems more like a Mouse Trap or Rock em Sock em Robots kind of guy.

The "no games on a PTO" is rough at the moment. You have to be damn sure otherwise he's a waste contract slot.
Not if he signs a 2 way. You can bury him and his cap hit in the minors. He can then choose to leave and go to Europe getting rid of the contract all together. This is likely his best option, assuming he's feeling it on the Penguins.

The only issue is I don't know how many games he can play for the Pens before we go above the cap, and if he plays more, who is sacrificed for his cap hit.

You're right, that is true however, that 2-way deal still counts against the 50 total professional contracts a team is allowed to have. Penguins have 48 currently so he'd be #49. That's probably fine but still, we shouldn't be signing guys and adding them to the total unless we are sure they are going to be productive, impact, helpful players.

Now, yeah, if he goes to the AHL that makes things easier on the cap and if he jets to Europe, obviously, that solves it. My thought, though, is that if Europe was a good place for him, he would be there already.

A shame there's that 50 contract thing to consider. Europe would be a good place for him, but all he's said his goal is to play in the NHL. A bit more stats to show it wasn't just all bad in the Oilers:

2020-2021 he scored 13 even strength goals in 55 games. His ESG/60 was the 2nd best of the team and goals/60 the 3rd best with very low PP time. Points/60 the 5th best of the team and 4th out of forwards.

2021-2022 his points/60 was the 6th best of the team and practically the same as Hyman's (who was 5th) even though Hyman played in top 6.

Apart from the miserable last season his PP goals/60 has also usually been among the best (2nd-6th) of the team, but sample sizes are fairly small.

If he can get close to his best form he'll be a useful player and worth one of those two contract spots. The difficult part is to see if he does without seeing him in games. I'm slightly hopeful as he did so well after he had his first hip operation.

Now I think I'm done with stat typing and step to the background to watch how this eventually goes. I hope your teams make the right decisions and gets the ship to the right direction!
