The best addition for entertainment for both for and against is, Kessel.

While most here think he's trash, just imagine what he'd do for the Sully factor, and yes, I'd love more Kessel on the bench gifs.

A lot of people here said Nuke was done, then he randomly became good. Sometimes all it takes is a new environment and 25 is plenty young enough. I’m just not sure Pittsburgh is any kind of positive new environment at the moment.
Very true, but when they fire the coaching staff :D...maybe he can be the 2016 version of Hags or Daley or something.

So if they get healthy and Poolparty can play up to expectations...

Guentzel Crosby Rust
Smith Malkin Rakell
O'Connor Eller Pujujarvi
Nieto Zohorna Acciari

I seriously doubt this. If Rust was done for the year, they'd have a whole lot more cap to do more than bring in Pool Party for near league minimum.
Huh? If Rust is done for the year, why would signing Poolparty for league minimum have any effect on brining someone else in?

Assuming Rust is out longer-term, which it seems like he may be, I'd like to see poolparty tried with Sid as the team gets healthier. They both play that down-low grinding possession game. If poolparty couldn't spark any chemistry with McDavid or Draisaitl, it likely won't work, but I'd at least like to see it tried.

Guentzel - Crosby - Puljujarvi
Smith - Malkin - Puustinen
Zohorna - Eller - Rakell
O'Connor - Acciari - Hinostroza

Rust on IR.
Carter and Nieto scratched.
Gruden, Harkins, Johnstone back down.

Pettersson - Karlsson
Ludvig - Letang
Graves - Joseph

Ruhwedel scratched.
Samorukov and Shea to WBS.

PP1
Puustinen - Guentzel - Crosby
Karlsson - Malkin

PP2
Rakell - Zohorna - Smith
Letang - Eller

Just put him and Zohorna in front of the net while the big 3 play an umbrella on the PP. Like, it can't get any worse.

As long as his resurfaced hips hold up he is in the best shape of his life and seems to have matured quite a bit.

I really hope he works out for you guys.

The reason this move sucks isn't so much to do with JP. The issue is that.... THIS is the move.

This team doesn't need another NHL tweener scrub with upside. Just play Puustinen more than 2 games if you want that.

This team desperately needs to part ways with the coaching staff or the season is over. This move sets us back another 2 weeks on that. We're running out of time.

Oh and - it should go without saying - this guy obviously won't be a fit in Sullivan's system.

You bring Pulijarvi in on a pto because your secondary pieces arent working out. Not because one of your main pieces is going to be out longer term. They said they thought it was indicative of that

Probably better environment than Edmonton or Carolina where there was huge pressure to win the Stanley Cup. He needs an environment where it's okay to make mistakes too. Imagine sitting next to McDavid who is criticizing everything you do and you don't understand a word what the Scottish dude is saying.

He has been training with the Finnish pro league team Kärpät for the last few weeks. Apparently he is feeling pain free but nobody knows how it will be when playing starts. He also has been able to change his skating posture(?) and that will help his shooting. But nothing is certain yet, it's a gamble.

The fact that he signed a PTO with this team and how this coach uses players like him trying to find a clean slate...literally proves he has zero f***ing IQ.

The success rate of players having the hip resurfacing procedure and playing a full season or regularly again is like 0%.

Jovanovski, Kesler, Backstrom, Hagelin, etc all never played again or barely played until it took them out for good. Even with recent advancements, Backstrom is essentially done and Kane is someone everyone has eyes on to see if he might be the one to succeed. But Jesse being someone to even hope for, for anything is an epic pipe dream. I would be shocked if he signed anything other than a PTO. He's the youngest to get this surgery out of the names we know.

I'd sub Nieto in for Hinostroza. Put Acciari on wing.

Puus and Puljujarvi are light years apart in skillset and pedigree. This without JP not even living up to expectations in the league.

So the "this is the move" comment holds very little weight as far as bringing in another player as this is all they can pretty much do with the cap. very low risk high reward.

Is it ideal?....no but theres no harm here whatsoever in bringing in JP

Maybe it wasn't clear - what I meant with the "this is the move" thing was: This is a weak half-measure (quarter measure? 1/10 measure?) when the team is in dire need of a coaching change.

It's like Dubas is saying "Don't look at me, I'm making moves out here!" while Sully/Reirden/Vellucci continue to just chill.

There's no risk in it, sure, but it pisses me off given the context of where this team is at and what is needed right now.

Dubas made the big push for Karlsson. Now he needs to show the org he has balls and make a coaching change.

This is the second time he had this surgery. That can be seen as a negative or positive, but the positive side is he played his best hockey for a season+a few months after the first surgery. In fact his time in the Oilers since his return was incredibly two-sided.

First (covid) season plus a few months from the next season he was very good. His ES goals/60 was the 2nd best of the team, his defensive game very good and he was seen worth multiple firsts by some media. Then the second half of his time was the opposite. No production, which continued in Carolina.

If he plays like after his first surgery he'll be a very positive surprise to many of you. Of that's a big if so we'll see how it goes.
