What is the value of Jesperi Kotkaniemi? Still relatively young has looked like he’s gotten some chances in the games I’ve viewed him but only getting 14 minutes a night and 11 last night. He’s on a long term deal at almost 5 mil a year. Is he strictly a cap dump?? Does he have value and would the Canes move him?

He’s contract seems buyout friendly, although insanely long cap hit would be under a mil every season. I wouldn’t mind the Flyers taking a chance on him if Carolina was willing to attach a pick to him. Maybe something like Jesperi and a 1st for Frost?

I think there's an age limit to have that buyout price. It might be only the last season before it goes up. Not sure if it's the current age or the age of the signing , but it's possible the buyout becomes more expensive after this year. Something to consider for sure.

What’s the value of a 2/3 checking centre who is hard to play against? Usually those guys come in right about the 5 per mark ad they get into later years contracts. If he was on the trade block there will be several teams interested because he’s still relatively young, has lots of term, and they’d be hoping he could produce more offence if given a shot with some cherry ice time. I’m thinking he’d return a decent prospect and a mid round pick.

Considering he's on a 50 point pace, defensively strong, signed below market value of 50p. defensive centers?

He looks like he's starting to pull it together. (He's fooled us before though.) Absolutely not a cap dump. Right now, full value acquisition most likely...caveat emptor.

I expect that if he doesn't fall off this season like in past years, one of him or Drury might be moved in the offseason for best offer above a threshold. Having both and Staal is redundant for a team needing more offense upfront.

The Canes aren’t attaching anything to him, definitely nothing like a first. He fills a role and isn’t expensive. He has played solid this season, he seems unlikely to drive offense but he plays a pretty heavy two way game. When Staal retires that becomes KK’s job presumably, and when he’s with someone like Necas all is generally well. I could see us wanting to upgrade that spot but if they have to attach a first or high end prospect to move the guy they’d just keep him. The Canes won’t move KK mid season if that true 2C isn’t coming from the same move or a separate one at the same time so it feels more likely to be an off season thing.

We have more time with the cheap buyout but I doubt they’ll do that. 8 pts in 13 games. You’re not getting any Canes fan to say we’ll give you a first to take him away.

Kotkaniemi is still cheap to buyout if necessary. Habs fans are overly invested in this player and mocking him for no reason. Move on.

For Carolina, they've seen his play for a few years now, perhaps they move on or still see his future as a defensive 3C.

How is Kotka terrible right now? He’s playing just fine and at a level that’s in line with his contract. Your proposal is terrible for the Canes.
Dvorak is RFA after this year, so it would be 3/4 of a year of a roughly similar player and getting out of Kotkaniemi's contract for the next 5 years at $4.8M.

If Kotkaniemi was an FA, I don't see him getting that same contract anywhere else. The guy is a 30-40 point player after 6 seasons in the league.

Kotkaniemi's production shouldn't be hard to replace moving forward, so it gives the Canes flexibility, how is that a terrible thing?
