Bratt will be getting an absolute bag next offseason.

Fitz should've just given Bratt the standard 8x8-esque deal in the summer. He will be paying something more expensive now.

Seems that you were willing to pay almost $10 M AAV, which is what a few of us were critiquing. No reason to drag me back into this thread TBH despite his fast start.
Yep, it's called a walk away point. I'd rather overpay Bratt by ~$1-2M if the alternative is losing him. Though ideally, you are able to find a deal that works closer to "market value".

It's definitely not a team friendly deal, which is why it's my walkaway point.

But yes, I'd rather pay a player like Bratt 9.75M over 8 years than 5M over 2. I realize it won't take that much to resign him, but that's what he's worth to me.
This aged pretty well. Those first few pages, ooof some of those takes...

People were really deranged with Bratt. It obviously didn't happen in this thread given the dates but I still remember the arguments I was having the summer of 2023 arguing that Bratt was better than Meier and if I was Bratt I would've pushed to be pair at least as much as Meier. Thankfully Bratt's a nicer guy than me. There were people that summer saying 6.5 was their max for Bratt lol

Whew.

Jeez. Devils shouldn't be trading this guy. If you need the cap space there is some fat on the roster you move long before Bratt.

He plays both ends of the ice, drives play and produces. The only criticism you could have of him is he's small. I think you'll see the Devils looking for a play driving winger the second you trade him. Anything under 10m will look good with the cap escalation.

This thread is years old and got bumped. Bratt's 5th in the league in scoring right now. The funny thing is what you're saying is exactly what the smart people were saying a couple of years ago when this dumbass topic would come up

Yes, yes, come to the dark side...

Bratt is 2nd among LWs in 5v5 scoring efficiency in the last 4 years, and 8th among all skaters.

It's crazy that people thought I was crazy for saying my walk away point was 9.75M. Look at the contract values of the guys around him. And he's a more complete player than many of them.

With how elite he's always been at 5v5, how amazing he and Jack are together, and now the PP finally clicking at level of the talent it as the best in the league he and Jack should be consistent 100+ pt scorers now

Gotta say I was wrong! Fitz played it perfectly.

But I was absolutely right that Bratt is excellent and absolutely deserving of The Bags.

People who didn't think Bratt was worth it are absolute idiots. Don't know puck.

Glad I ignored this thread when it was first posted, it was a joy to go back and read all of the smooth-brained takes.

Bratt has been a special player for years now. Yet people still look at point totals on bad teams and use that as their only metric.

I've always liked Bratt. I'm a fan of 200 foot players. Backlund is my guy for the Flames. Our point of disagreement I believe was on Tkachuk. I still think Tkachuk is an elite winger. He just moves like a glacier. He's also a very effective in 2 of the 3 zones. The neutral zone being the one he's useless in.

I'm only teasing because earlier in the thread you said no sane GM would give him 9-10M. But yeah you've been consistent in your praise. I've always revered your opinion.

Tkachuk is indeed elite, but for me he's more of an elite complimentary guy because he's not great in the NZ. Two of the best LWs in the game.

Yeah, cap escalation has changed the calculus. Contracts now will be 30% higher than before. He would have been 7 to 8M before. Now he'll be 9 to 10m.

Everyone is going to need to rethink contract numbers now. A guy like Zary could get 5 to 6M with the new ceiling. Stars like Bratt will be 9m+.
