I’m just not exactly sure what CMac is waiting for. The whole world knows Georgiev is bad and needs to be replaced. Go get a Blackwood or Gibson or someone. Blackwood is actually making less than Georgiev if CMac is worried about cap space

Props to Wedgewood. Bednar is out of his damn mind if he goes again with Georgiev next game.
That happens, force bedner to write a haiku, then commit hari kiri with a Ron Popeil Ronco apple peeler on Altitude to an AI compilation of the two Laurens.

autistic people often get fixated on a specific goal even if changing circumstances have made it unreasonable or unimportant

Oh boy, that was something. Its so great to see the team actually playing and not bunching infront of the goal trying to assist your ass of a goalie.

Georgiev should have been traded midgame after that performance.

Ofcourse his gonna get a rebound game...

Also great to see Kivi and Loc finally doing gods work in the third line.

What the f***, i went to sleep at 3AM after second period, as it did not like to be this kind of turn-around, even based on the improved second period performance. Did not look like to be that night, i remember one game 2 years ago against Toronto, that we were 0:3 down just like that, but it always felt like we are going to win it, and we did. This game though, did not feel it.

But happy to see it anyway. From the Wedgie performance, through someone else than first line getting goals, to have a fight in themselves to turn a game pretty much already lost like this. It requires character.

Now we only need to get our forwards back (Drouin, Colton and fecking Landy), so we dont run our star trio to the ground and replace Georgiev with someone, who is actually capable of consistently stopping pucks at NHL level and we will be ok.

"☝🤓 Statistically, Georgiev is not even the worst goalie we've observed thus far this season, and therefore see no immediate urgency for an upgrade"

I loved that performance out of wedgewood, but he was absolutely swimming a few times and got some help from lady luck.

But you can get that sometimes when your goalie didn't defile an Old Indian burial ground like our current starter.
And if you are wearing #41 you have some puck poise to live up to!

Lol. Just got to watch the game since it was blacked out on DirecTV until 9 mountain. But just lol.

That better be George's last game as an Avalanche. f*** him. It's no surprise that we get passable goaltending from Wedgewood and all of sudden we look like a real team.
I watched it on DirectTV live. It's on channel 20, not 681.

So seriously. Is this the game that ends George's career as an Av? Is CMac on the phone right now?
I mean I feel like the moment he was pulled a switch was flipped in the Avs and the puck stayed in Buffalo's end. I get that that is also the point useually of a goalie change in the first place to create a spark but I feel it is bigger here.

Maybe I am just seeing what I want to see but it is almost as if the players wanted to send a message and give no effort in front of Georgiev last night since management wasn't doing shit to fix it.

WHAT A COMEBACK!

Towards the end of the 1st period, I was considering just turning off the game. The only thought it my head was "Fire Georgiev into the sun". But I was only halfway through my beer and decided I wanted to see how Wedgewood performed. I expected a bit of a pushback but also a couple more Sabres goals and something like a 6-2 final score.

But man oh man. Logan O'Connor, Joel Kiviranta and Nathan By God MacKinnon put that team on their backs and slogged their way back into the game. They FINALLY figured out that to win they needed to play rough a tumble, unafraid, and assertive. It's like Kadri always said when he was asked how he turned his game around - you need to play aggressive! Well, I'm pretty sure the Sabres players are going to have nightmares of O'Connor hounding them, and their GM wondering how they can get a player like him. I have no idea what was said in the locker room after the 1st or who said it, but if it's a player, give them the C, and if it's Bednar, his job should be safe as can be. Not once this whole season have I seen the team play that committed. Now, was it perfect? No, of course not. Mittlestad is still trying to do too much, and it's dragging down his line, and Kovalenko had a great game on an individual level. I just don't see any chemistry on that line. And the MacKinnon line was on beast mode. Rantanen still fell down a lot, but you know what? I'll give him credit - he actually won a few puck battles (while falling down of course). And of course Lehkonen scores the game winner - he's going to go down as the most clutch goal scorer in Avalanche history after Joe Sakic.

And the cherry on top: Wedgewood looked fine. Not amazing. Dude has some crazy swimming strokes. But I don't care. He kept the puck out of the goddamn f***ing net. If the team has any brains, they'll ride him for as far as he can take them, and Georgiev never sees the Avalanche net again.

What a win. I should have another beer, but I have work tomorrow.

You have to believe he's been working the phones for a while. That's probably how the Wedgewood trade happened. What I've heard is San Jose is actually in not rush to trade Blackwood, because they want the team to do better this season. They also know, like Anaheim does, that there's lots of demand out there for competent goaltending, so they hold all the cards. You can't force other teams to trade you their goaltenders, unless of course you're suggesting that CMac should make a crazy offer, which would earn him even more criticism than he's getting now.

One thing for sure is teams don't wanna help the Avs and they know our situation.

Preds were stuck with a bad contract for them (Wedgewood) and wanted Annunen and the Avs still had to throw an extra pick to make that trade. So not only we trade a positive asset for a negative asset but we had to pay for doing it. That's saying something.

It's wild how many high profile prospects have just not really worked out in Buffalo. Cozens, Quinn, Krebs, Levi. Their board has even turned on Dahlin and Power to an extent.

I really feel bad for Buffalo. Just look at how many guys have left them and turned into good players as soon as they play somewhere else. So you never know if a guy is a bust or just someone who will do better elsewhere.
