Jersey Ads

CCM, Nike, Adidas, etc., have all been advertising on NHL jerseys for decades. The logo has always been visible. Maybe not on the chest, but clearly visible. Never heard anyone complain about Adidas having their logo right by player names on the back.
"DURRRRR! But it's different! DURRRRR!"
It's not different. This is a giant nothingburger.
Lmao, they made the jerseys

did Ottawa and Toronto have ads on today? if they did I didn't notice them

this is just unhinged calling people shills because they aren't bothered by an ad.
Toronto did, “Milk” on jersey. and tik tok on helmet
Senators had no ads on jersey or helmet.

That's not even a good comparison. They're still the Detroit Red Wings, the NY Rangers, etc. They aren't the Detroit Chrysler Red Wings or the NY Chase Bank Rangers. Good try, though.

I'm no shill, I'm just smart enough to understand that teams want as many revenue streams as they can get...PLUS I'm smart enough to understand this isn't going to affect my enjoyment of watching games nor will it affect how my team plays. They put ads on the helmets, everyone got pissed, and what happened? Nothing.

There's a small handful of soft people who are going to stop watching, and who wins in that scenario? Not them. Imagine willingly not watching prime McDavid or Makar or whoever just because they have a logo on their chest that you'll barely pay any attention to, anyway. Do you scream into the void about the ads on the boards or the corporate name on every arena?

If this is a big deal to you, go take a walk or take a deep breath or something. Christ, you can still buy jerseys without the ads on them.
This is just something for people like you to use to be mad online. Waste of time.
They aren’t stopping watching, there stopping buying merchandise. Seems you’re really upset over this.

Do you honestly believe there will not be larger and/or more numerous ads on jerseys in coming seasons? The NHL isn't going to go NASCAR overnight. First it's ads on helmets (Big deal, it's only a helmet), then it's a small patch on the jersey (Big deal, you'll barely notice), then it increases going forward.

The jerseys you buy in the store won't have the ad, so cool it? Isn't the point of having a jersey is that you are wearing what the players wear? Why not just save money and get a t-shirt, or better yet don't buy team merch to show teams that if they want ad revenue they will lose revenue from fans.
Stores will have the ad, u less buying last years stock.
I won’t buy any more jerseys. Lucky I have about 15 already.

Going to lay this out simply so it doesn't require fixing.

Explaining that ads are an expected outcome from the financial system we operate in is not shilling.

Explaining that ads have been on jerseys for decades is not shilling.

Teams are owned by billionaires.

Billionaires make money.

Ads make money.

Ads are going to be all over the team/game so long as they are owned by billionaires in our current financial system.

I am opposed to this system.

I am opposed to billionaires in general.

I am not buying a jersey (never have).

I have repeatedly told posters that the only message owners will hear is a loss in money (ie don't buy them).

Expressing a viewpoint that does not align with yours is not the result of a massive conspiracy.

Someone can have a different emotional reaction to something without it being the result of a paycheck.
You must live in Europe then and like the ads.

I was already upset. This is more like the straw that broke the camel's back. The jersey was the one thing that at least held respect. Teams like the Canadiens have been coming together under that logo for a century. Now it's the Some Garbage Bank Canadiens.

What's next? A Tim Horton's logo on The Cup?
The logo hasn't changed, just the jersey the logo is on. The CH, the maple leaf, the spoked B, the winged wheel, etc. remain untouched. There's nothing sacred about jerseys, which change all the time. New designs, new colours, retro, winter-classics, etc. The only element that really represents the team is the logo, which appears on different backgrounds on flags, caps, t-shirts, calendars, bumper stickers, etc.

As long as they respect the actual logo, I'm not that bothered by a single jersey patch. If ads start taking up even more space, I'll revisit.

Leafs have “Milk” on their jersey.
Can we get Juice? Or Meat?
That’d be pretty cool.
Or…Pants!
Pants? What brand? No brand man just pants.
Smh

Unless you're getting a Canadian made jersey, the "Authentics" you buy are not what the players wear anyway.

I don't watch nba, only keep hearing that they all have a sponsorship on jersey and it pretty unsignificant.

Looking at the pictures posted some of them have now 3 patch in front

Yikes they are starting to look like the european ones. Wish on a jersey, double yikes.

they said they wasn't going to slap ads on the jerseys in retail yet

That doesn't mean there should be no standards as per the transaction...the NHL has all the power in this. Our only recourse as consumers is to stop watching. There is no competing product. And we don't need you to tell us what we prefer. We know we live in a capitalist society.
There simply is tradition and history attached to the iconography of the teams. And that iconography is attached to communities and individuals. It cheapens the experience of being a fan when you degrade the iconography with a lame cash grab. And it feels like an insult when I'm being soaked every which way and they can't even field a team without some asshole's company on the sweater.

Just sit back, close your eyes, and think of England?

Well, there's other alternative leagues of hockey to choose from, and if the fanbase in general was so appalled by this move that they stopped watching, either the nhl would change their stance, or a compeitor would come knocking.

I personally think that most of the fans are probably looking at the ads as a nuisance, but I don't think it will change the fan's consumption habits in a meaningful way over the long run.

We can romanticize over what we feel like professional sports ought to represent, but the dollar always wins over time. I'm sure the players aren't complaining about this, as it's another source of hockey related revenue that they can dip into after a hefty escrow era.

It's usually a group if it's something like that. Like some dairy farmer lobby or something
That's exactly what it is. Dairy Farmers of Ontario. They don't care what milk you're buying, they just want you to buy milk. If it's going to be an ad, a wholesome one ain't that bad.

(Also, pairs nicely with waffles)

Fixed your post.

I see you're shilling just as hard as before. There are many shills in the online world and I'm certain a shill would never disclose that they are being paid.

A good shill would also be wise change their look every time people begin to recognize them for who they really are.
Why would a shill even care? Almost no one is actually going to change their consumer habits because of shills (actual ones not the ones you keep imagining are in this thread) or advertising to any material degree. If It was as big a deal as people were claiming it is to them, then there would be mass boycotts and companies would lose money, so they would stop. If you care that much and do change your buying habits and it does nothing, then consider that you are part of a small minority of "old man yells at cloud" and accept that.

This fear mongering reminds me of the "Levi" scene from Imperium where Radcliffe's character makes fun of the henchman for wanting to boycott certain companies because of their shareholders and owners. Like he said, you'd be living in a cave if you actually acted on what you claim you care about.

It matches the jersey which was kind of what I was hoping at least. And it's not gambling. Strongly prefer none but at least it's not red or yellow or something more obnoxious

It's not supposed to be a brand. It was paid for by an Ontario or even Canadian dairy farmer lobbying group.
