As this situation continues to drag on:

Please keep the conversation pertinent to the topic and avoid making it personal.

Debate about the management of the salary cap and the performance of the general manager fits into the context of the conversation, but we’ll avoid dividing fans into camps like “pro-player” and “team apologist”.

Thanks!

Continue if you must. No flaming!

He may have been asked but he sure the hell didn't need to provide every detail. He could have simply said it was a hard but enlightening process and one I'd never like to experience agai. Instead he left the door open for more questions to be asked and him further airing out his dirty laundry. He handled it poorly and I've stated that from day 1.

What's every detail? Did he say what the Bruins were offering? what he was offering? what was being said during negotiations?

I get the feeling that they’re not going to want to sit on Sways deal too long. I’d give it three weeks before they start shopping him.

Interesting dynamic. The people that have been crying about swayman using the media to get his point across are now thrilled with Neely using the media to get the bruins point across.

Can’t have it both ways

Says who, you? Sure you can. The Swayman camp fired shots across the bow, Bruins are firing back, especially now with the season close to starting. If it's true, it's a very reasonable deal and about what I personally thought was fair. No idea why the Swayman camp feels the need to try and squeeze more.

He went into a shitload of detail about what happened in arbitration last year. He should have kept that shit to himself. That whole thing started this entire situation and it didn't need to. Save the tell all shit for your memoir after you help the Bruins win the cup.

Ok? If he was at $10.5M ask do the Bruins need to go to $9.25M to get it done?

But he's not according to rumors. Right now (if rumors are true) they're $1.5 million apart. In your random situation they're $2.5 million apart. That's a big difference. Right now Swayman is looking for ~18% more than what Boston wants to pay. Your scenario would have Swayman at ~32% more than Boston wants to pay.

Bad look by management here crying to the media about this. Can tell it’s getting under managements skin.

Certainly doesn’t look good around the league to have Cam Neely making comments saying “swayman has $64 million reasons to be playing right now”

Players and agents are definitely taking note.

That’s not how it’s going to be looked at. Not with a $64M offer and the leaks to the podcasts about how they were ignoring him and lowballing him.

spot on Wally, Sway hasn`t always helped his situation. Complained about hurt feelings after his arbitration scenario a while ago like he`s the first player/goalie to ever go to arb. I`m a couch potato fan, haven`t got the chops to manage the shoe department at WalMart let alone a NHL team but even I know those arb sessions are often brutal but Sway has held onto that resentment for a while now

I don`t agree with Cam much but I loved that comment today, just a beauty

How do we know he still has resentment? The answer is we don't. We take a clip from an interview asking how he felt about the process and just start making assumptions that he's still angry about it. When in reality he could have just been giving insight to what it was like to go through the process when he was going through the process.

Funny enough in an interview Swayman said there was no ill will and he understood he wasn't the first player or last to go through arbitration. Funny how many Bruins fans always forget that part of his quotes though.

If it was good enough Swayman would have signed, no? The $9.5 million isn't my number, its based on the rumor that he wants the McAvoy deal. With the cap expected to have strong yearly raises now that escort has been paid back, what's $400k to $800k more from where you want to be to get this over the finish line?
Some escort really made bank here.

like what? point me to an article or video interview he did where he "went into a shitload of detail" because what I've found is all vague & generic stuff.

All I say is this........

When you consider that over the first 7 years of the deal with a quickly rising salary cap, 25-26 year old Jeremy Swayman would earn a mere 1.75 million more than 29-30 year old Elias Lindholm, that makes the offer of 8 million per a bit of a joke.

This isn't Jeremy Swayman vs. Patrice Bergeron here. He's not being compared to a franchise cornerstone.

A few days ago I posted where Swayman was ranked by the media experts on TSN and SN on their respective Top 50 lists, where was ranked as high as the 3rd best goaltender in the league, and no lower than 5th.

Does Elias Lindholm even make their Top 100? Probably not.

I don't care about UFA vs. RFA, leverage or whatever. It's about five years from now with a cap over 100 million, a 29 year old Swayman sitting in the dressing room and looking over a 33 year old declining Lindholm and saying "I make just $250,000 more than that guy, what the &^%$".

Just think about that, you have a situation where Swayman at 29 could possibly be the best goaltender on the planet, and he is earning essentially the same amount as a guy who basically an above-average two-way center whose best years are long gone.

Taking care of aging above-average talents like Lindholm and Zadorov at the expense of your younger elite talents is the exact reverse opposite of how you manage NHL teams in the salary cap era. Take care of your elite talent in their prime, figure out the rest after. We are 20 years into the salary cap era and there are a few hard truths about managing the cap that I think are written in stone, and taking care of your elite young core talent entering their prime is rarely a mistake. History has proven that. The risk IMO is minimal.

Signing above-average aging talents to long-term deals is a far, far greater risk and the Bruins don't seem to mind going there based on their moves this summer.

Sadly I believe we have seen the last of Jeremy Swayman in a Bruins uniform. And I believe in Jeremy Swayman. I think he is that damn good. I guess Don and Cam don't. My guess is we are about to see another one of those trades (like Thornton, like Seguin, like Hamilton) where the rest of the hockey world laughs at the Bruins.

Again.

Again you have no idea what’s going on and not do I.

We have no idea when this was offered, it could have been very recently and the lowball offers were true at one point.

And please save us from Troy saying you have sources or there’s an old wives tale. Every single piece of info or claim you’ve had has been so insanely far off.

And you definitely have no source that can confirm this one.

So please let’s deal with what we know before you once again claim something that hold no value

A swing and a miss.
He answered a question. Hardly crying. Plus players and agents across the league know it’s a business and who may be worth what. I think you have it ass backwards about who doesnt look here. And I hardly ever say that in 60 years when it comes to Bruins management.

Speculation. I mean I could say I heard it somewhere and be as correct as everyone else here on rumors tbh.
You said “it’s obvious he’s looking for a short term deal”. That’s not speculation.

On another note, wouldn’t “resetting the goalie market” mean Swayman’s ask is to be paid more than any goaltender contract to date? I just think he &/or his agent think he’s worth more than the Bruins seem prepared to offer.

My hunch says he’s traded after Thanksgiving. Swayman seems dug in, the Bruins front office seems exhausted. Not a good vibe.
