As this situation continues to drag on:

Please keep the conversation pertinent to the topic and avoid making it personal.

Debate about the management of the salary cap and the performance of the general manager fits into the context of the conversation, but we’ll avoid dividing fans into camps like “pro-player” and “team apologist”.

Thanks!

Continue if you must. No flaming!

So Bruins management makes their star goalie out to a greedy prick and don't expect the fans to turn on him? Weird tactic. Should try to deal him at this point.

Guys we don't need to trade him. He has NO leverage.

He sits and sits and burns his career. He HAS to sign.
Do you even want him here after Neely drove the zamboni over him?

8x8 is a good enough deal that the Bruins don’t need to go up. No way they need to go to $8.8 just because Swayman is at an absurd $9.5M (in your scenario).

If it was good enough Swayman would have signed, no? The $9.5 million isn't my number, its based on the rumor that he wants the McAvoy deal. With the cap expected to have strong yearly raises now that escrow has been paid back, what's $400k to $800k more from where you want to be to get this over the finish line?

There’s a difference between paying 8x$8M and paying four first round draft picks for the honor of paying 8x$8M.
right. i think paying 8x8 is overpayment I think 7x8 maybe 7.5x8. but any other GM is not going to pay 8x8 and draft picks. that would be totally insane.

I think at this point Sway sits and then regrets it. to young to sit out at this stage. does he think after sitting someone will pay him $9.5? If i am the Bruins and he sits I would say fine your sitting for the year we will use the cap space at the deadline. If we don't have $8 left for you next year maybe the offer is now $7 since you now haven't played in any NHL hockey in a full year.

But is management making him out to be a greedy prick or is he actually being a greedy prick.?

If the really did offer him 8x8 at $64M then i feel its that he actually is being a greedy prick and they are just telling the fans the truth.

Yup. I get going through arbitration and hearing unfiltered facts about yourself is rough but he played the sympathy card all last season with it. Fans defended him then, and all summer saying we need to pay him.

64 million is payment for him being flexible last year, and is extremely generous for someone with his track record. Wonder how he reacts to all of the “mean” comments again now that the fans are leaving his side. He’s getting bad advice.
Gotta ask the question, is it possible that Swayman has no clue that they offered him this?

64 mill for a guy with 132 NHL games under his belt and never played more than what? 44/45 in a season not that it`s his fault he didn`t but..

Saros has played, if I heard correctly, 300-350 NHL games , played 67,64,64 in the last three seasons proving he can handle that load and signed for $61.92 mill and Sway or his agent wants more than him?

Get the f outta here

Trading Sway is literally the worst possible path. None of you should be GM's, lol.

His cap hit now is 0. He has no leverage. There is NO (trade) market for him at 9-10M.

Wait him out.
Now that they’ve made the 64 mil statement I actually think they’ll stay super firm at that number.

For Swayman to salvage this and remain on the team I’m wondering if he’s gotta fire Gross, sign the deal, then do the whole dog and pony show apology tour in the media

I think this will be the final straw. Jeremy won't be a Bruin. Sign him to 1 year and spend the entire year setting up an off season deal.

It’s 400k to 800k more than an extremely fair offer.

I've never seen them do this before. It is 100% salvagable and it puts the Swayman camp on notice that they too, can go to the media if need be.

Swayman has been going to the media to air shit since arbitration didn't go his way. The last straw was Spittin Chicklets. Glad Cam said something, When you piss Cam off, you know you've stepped in it,

Sway needs to sign the deal and ditch the agent.

You mean when he's been asked by the media during interviews about it? Let's not act like Swayman has been seeking out the media to make comments. A good chunk of the comments came from when he went to the all-star game and was asked about going from arbitration to being named an all-star and how that made him feel.

Oh boy. Then yeah, he’s now in a real bad spot.

I've been saying this for 30 pages

That’s interesting. So they could effectively torpedo his career here if he really pushes this nonsense.

Dude he is literally torpedoing his OWN career. RFA holdouts are mental. His agent is absurd. They should have filed for arbitration over this. This was the WORST path when Neely and Sweenius are facing you down.

You can't honestly think that Neely isn't a complete idiot for what he did can you?

They are saying we will sign him but he's a greedy prick. Guarantee you Sweeney is livid. You don't try to turn the fans against your 25 year future franchise goalie. He's a moron.

Do we even know if 8x8 was offered to swayman in order for him to have the chance to sign it?

Edit: just saw the update from Sweeney it’s been offered
