Yup, it boggles my mind that there's even a debate about Skinner. This is what we all knew when he signed his contract:

View attachment 317379

Last year we paired him with one of the best transition players in the league and he had a career year.

This year we've paired him with a bunch of guys that never get the puck to his area of strength and wonder what the problem could be, while throwing around digs about his contract and what he should be doing based on his contract value

I've said this about players in multiple sports, but give me a player with an elite skillset and a good coach should be capable of weaponizing it, almost regardless of his flaws.

The point that the analytics people ( okay, okay... person) in Buffalo haven't noticed the territorial and shot advantage they had with the Skinner-Larsson-Sheary line back in December. It's the only line with positive shot metrics for and against in the last 25 games.

Edmonton fans said Ralph was stubborn. We continue to see it.

0+2 in his last 17 games. That’s not bad, that’s absurd.

Mystifying to me how people aren’t more upset at his play this year.

Even Johansson is producing more than him.

And the same people who liked this contract are the same people who want Reinhart gone if he asks for 8M.

He’s excused for his play this year because he’s not playing with Eichel.

Lack of production =/= horrible play

That’s not a lack of production, that’s non-existent production.

If anyone can honestly tell me they’ve been watching him play this year and think he’s been any good though...by all means.

He's getting into almost 10 scoring chances per 60 minutes in your sample so yeah, it's just results bias.

Yeah, it's really not. Certainly I question how scoring chances are being tracked though because I'm not seeing very many from him when I watch (I can think of one glaring miss several games ago, really). Can you think of actual top line players who go into slumps of 2 points in 17 games?

Since October, his only month of actually good play, he has 9 points in 32 games...

Can you think of top line players who play with comparable linemates to Skinner?

Not at even strength

Yeah they're only tied in even strength points. But Skinner having the worst power-play points per 60 on the whole team isn't exactly a point in his favour either.

Skinner's having one heck of a post-contract hangover. He's still young enough that I think he'll recover though.
